Chapter 9: Escape Success

He watched the pickaxe tip, like an arrow, strike towards his chest with lightning speed.

The overseer was dumbfounded.

He truly hadn't expected a scrawny miner to wield a pickaxe with such ferocious might, as if the God of Mines had descended, making him breathless.

Finally, in extreme terror, the overseer instinctively raised his hand to block, but it was too late.

“Thud”

A muffled sound echoed.

The sharp pickaxe tip instantly plunged into the overseer's chest.

Blood gushed out, splattering in the air.

Lin Ping took advantage of the momentum, pulling hard, and the overseer's chest immediately became a bloody mess; before he could even scream, his health bar instantly emptied and turned gray, and his tall body crashed to the ground, dying with his eyes wide open.

In an instant, a bloody, pungent smell permeated the air.

Lin Ping, holding the blood-stained pickaxe, did not stop for a moment, continuing to run wildly forward.

Although the struggle with the overseer was extremely short, even that brief delay allowed dozens of overseers, armed with long knives, to reach him not far behind.

He suddenly exerted force with his feet, his tendons tightening like springs, and powerful energy erupted from his toes, propelling him high up; his steps were swift, and he leaped forward like an untamed wild horse, leaving the overseers far behind as he sprinted towards the nearby cliff.

......

“Shoot him dead!”

A tall, broad-shouldered overseer leader, built like an iron tower, roared with jagged teeth.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh.....

Black arrows, carrying dazzling fire, pierced the cold night, shooting towards the figure on the cliff.

“G-Great Master… something’s wrong, all the miners have rioted.”

Just then, an overseer ran over, panting, and said tremblingly.

“Riot?”

The leader's gaze shifted from the cliff to the surging crowd on the minefield, like a tsunami, and he roared, “Damn it, quickly notify the guard camp for me!”

“Yes! Yes!”

The latter hurriedly ran towards the overseers’ living quarters.

Soon after, a clear horn blast echoed in the empty night sky.

And on that steep cliff, Lin Ping's agile figure, like a nimble monkey, leaped and dodged, moving left and right, perfectly avoiding the whistling arrows.

Every time his toes landed, he could step on the protruding rocks of the cliff, and the surging power from his toes, as if there were springs contracting and expanding beneath his feet, allowed his body to lightly ascend the cliff.

It must be said, Soaring Cloud Step is indeed a movement technique skilled in shifting, jumping, and running.

On such a nearly eighty-degree cliff, others would find it extremely difficult to even climb, yet he was able to quickly ascend to the cliff's peak while simultaneously dodging arrow attacks.

As he went higher, the sounds from the minefield grew fainter.

Finally, the whistling of arrows slowly disappeared, and his vision grew darker and darker.

At this point, Lin Ping let out a sigh of relief; this indicated that he had basically escaped the overseers' line of sight.

However, he did not stop there.

Because he knew that as long as he was still within the Yan Family's sphere of influence, he could not be considered truly safe.

As visibility decreased, Lin Ping's climbing speed gradually slowed down.

After a while longer.

His vision gradually began to brighten again.

He grinned, suddenly pushed off with his toes, and his entire body lightly leaped, landing on the peak of the cliff.

Whoosh—

A mountain wind swept in.

Lin Ping immediately felt threads of piercing coldness seep into his bones, making his skin break out in goosebumps.

He turned his head to glance at the somewhat chaotic and faint torchlight of the minefield below the cliff, then roughly determined the direction, turned, and ran westward, quickly disappearing into the dark, vast forest.

He just didn't know that his escape had inadvertently caused the largest riot in the minefield's history.

......

He didn’t know how long he had been running wildly, nor how far he had traveled.

Lin Ping finally collapsed to the ground, exhausted.

By this time, the sky was already faintly lit, and he realized he was in a peak amidst a thin sea of mist.

“It seems I haven't gone off course.”

According to Yun Lingyu, the Yan Family’s minefield was located at the edge of the Misty Mountain Range; as long as he kept fleeing westward, he would eventually escape the Yan Family’s sphere of influence.

Because the Misty Mountain Range to the west was filled with dense white fog everywhere, once a person entered it, searching for them would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Of course, this was the advantage.

The disadvantage was that those who escaped into the Misty Mountain Range couldn't distinguish north, south, east, or west, and could easily get lost, thereby straying into the depths of the mountain range; at best, they would become food for wild beasts, and at worst, they would be massacred by various demons and monsters, ultimately still becoming food.

However, according to Yun Lingyu, as long as he followed the relatively thin white mist and kept moving forward, he wouldn't stray into the depths of the mountain range; as long as he ensured he remained at the edge of the mountain range, then even if he encountered some small wild beasts, Lin Ping's movement technique would certainly allow him to protect himself.

As for the other directions, they were all heavily guarded by the Yan Family’s lackeys; escaping from those directions would be as difficult as ascending to heaven, no different from walking into a trap.

After resting for a while, Lin Ping came to an open area, sat on a large rock, and overlooked the distant mountains and forests.

“This is the Misty Mountain Range?”

Looking into the distance.

Peaks rose and fell continuously, stretching as far as the eye could see, an endless expanse of jungle, vast and boundless; enveloped by varying densities of white mist, it resembled an endless sea of fog, undulating with the wind under the morning sun, like surging waves, giving a beautiful and mysterious feeling; and those high mountain peaks that emerged partially from the sea of fog stood there like isolated islands in the sea, full of mystery.

“Beautiful, spectacular!”

Lin Ping exclaimed, then quietly took out a braised pig trotters and eagerly took a big bite.

When the rich aroma and familiar taste exploded in his mouth, tears streamed down his face!

This was the first piece of meat he had eaten in several months since his Transmigration.

Who could understand that taste?

Under wolfish devouring, a large braised pig trotters was quickly finished by him, and he couldn't help but lick his fingers afterward.

“Delicious, truly too delicious!”

After finishing the braised pig trotters, Lin Ping took out a bran cake from the cloth bag on his back and slowly ate it with some clear water.

After eating and drinking his fill.

He took out a piece of cloth from his Pregnant, on which some mountains, villages, and the general location and route of Silver Moon City were drawn crookedly with charcoal.

This simple topographic map, no different from a doodle, was naturally the handiwork of Great Master Yun Lingyu.

“Caw—”

A sharp and extremely penetrating cry came.

Lin Ping looked up and saw a mighty eagle soaring overhead, circling a few times in the sky, then spreading its wings and flying into the sea of mist, finally disappearing into the majestic mountains in the distance.

“The eagle strikes the vast sky, high heavens and wide seas, I roam freely!”

Putting away the simple topographic map, a hint of heroism flashed in his eyes, and he picked up his pickaxe and walked directly into the vast misty forest.
