Chapter 148: A talkative police officer

Seeing Zhang Heng relax, the security guard immediately changed his expression and sternly said, “What? Could it be that you came to this prison to search for treasure?”

Zhang Heng was momentarily intimidated, but he felt that the other party must be bluffing. From the moment he entered until now, they had exchanged no more than three sentences, and as a security guard, he was surprisingly talkative.

“Officer, please just do your duty and take me to the prison’s Affiliated Hospital.”

“Haha, you’re quite an interesting young man. Let’s get acquainted, my name is Zhu Zi. I’m a new, ordinary prison guard transferred here.”

Zhang Heng thought to himself, “Ordinary? His appearance and age, not even thirty, yet he’s working in a prison that detains serious offenders. His political background check must have been passed with full marks, perhaps even with bonus points. He’s definitely not an ordinary person.”

However, Zhang Heng didn’t show anything and simply replied, “My name is Zhang…”

“You’re Zhang Heng, right? I know, I just registered you. I looked at your information, and you should be connected to the Zhang family, shouldn’t you?”

“You’re talking a bit too much. Please take me to the Affiliated Hospital as soon as possible.”

The security guard named Zhu Zi looked up at the sky and said, “It’s almost 2 AM now. Shouldn’t I take you to the rest room first?”

Zhang Heng was still on Lake Heart Island in the morning, rested for half a day, and then tossed and turned to arrive at the prison. His schedule was truly tight.

Zhang Heng shook his head, “No need.”

The two walked and chatted, but mostly it was the security guard named Zhu Zi talking to Zhang Heng, asking him various questions, but Zhang Heng skipped those topics and didn’t say much.

Soon, they arrived at the location of the Affiliated Hospital. The prison’s Affiliated Hospital was located in the Southwest corner of the prison, separated from other areas by towering walls and electrified barbed wire.

It was a somewhat gloomy gray building, square in appearance with no excessive decoration, only a few small windows fitted with iron bars, as if silently proclaiming the strict security here.

The building’s main entrance was made of heavy metal, and in the nearby guardroom, prison guards were on duty at all times, their eyes vigilantly scanning their surroundings. Two Arcanine also stood at the guardroom entrance.

After thanking Zhu Zi, who was accompanying him, Zhang Heng walked directly into the hospital.

After saying goodbye, Zhu Zi turned to walk back to the guardroom at the prison entrance. As he walked through a deserted section of the road, he spoke a sentence into the air.

“Gimmighoul, did you find anything?”

From the shadows behind Zhu Zi, a treasure chest-like object emerged, which at first glance was hard to imagine as a Pokémon.

This treasure chest slowly floated to shoulder height, slowly opening to reveal a chest full of gold coins and a silver-gray humanoid Pokémon.

Gimmighoul shook its head, then Ghost-type energy surged, transmitting its feelings into Zhu Zi’s mind.

“This human has very pure Water-type energy repelling me. I can’t control him, nor can I hide in his shadow.”

According to the Pokédex description, Gimmighoul often lurks in corners and other places where it rarely encounters people or Pokémon. Therefore, once encountered, it will continuously control them, making it difficult to escape. If any human dares to covet its treasure chest, their life force will be absorbed.

Zhu Zi nodded and said, “Things are a bit difficult. The prison’s security is tight. If I don’t get cover from medical personnel, my actions will face considerable obstacles.”

After entering the hospital, Zhang Heng didn’t rush deeper. Instead, he looked back at Zhu Zi’s receding figure, because during their walk just now, the water scroll had more than once emitted Water-type energy, resisting something.

He murmured, “It seems he is also someone with intentions in the prison, wanting to achieve some of his goals through my identity as a medical staff member.”

Zhang Heng turned around and walked into the hospital. The strong smell of disinfectant filled Zhang Heng’s nostrils, but for him, this smell brought a unique sense of security.

Medical staff bustled between various wards, dressed in white uniforms, performing their duties expressionlessly. In this special hospital, treatment and supervision went hand in hand, and every corner exuded a unique coldness and order.

Zhang Heng, walking into the hospital alone and not wearing a prisoner’s uniform or a police uniform, immediately attracted the attention of the passing medical staff.

“Xiao Heng, you’re here.”

The speaker was a physician over fifty years old, whose face showed a slight weariness but exuded calmness. As Grandpa Zhang’s assistant physician, he often followed Grandpa Zhang in treating the wounded and was highly valued and appreciated by him.

“Doctor Lin, hello. My father sent me to learn more professional knowledge from you and all the medical staff.”

“Alright, Xiao Heng, no need for formalities. You did very well. Under your treatment, Darmanitan maintained its vital signs, which bought us time for rescue.”

“How is it? Its injuries are so severe, is there a chance for recovery?”

“Dr. Qiu is inside performing surgery for multiple rib fractures on Darmanitan. He’s short an assistant, so you can go in and help.”

“Thank you, Doctor Lin. I’ll go now.”

As he spoke, Zhang Heng walked into the disinfection room for sterilization, skillfully putting on a surgical gown with swift and orderly movements.

He gently pushed open the operating room door. Inside, the instrument lights flickered coldly.

Dr. Qiu was already standing in front of the operating table. Zhang Heng walked steadily to the instrument tray, arranging various surgical instruments.

The surgery began without verbal communication. With a slight glance from the elder physician, Zhang Heng understood perfectly, precisely handing over the required instruments. Each transfer was just right, a silent tug-of-war with death unfolding.

… … … … … … …

Over the South Sea waters of Huaguo, the deep blue seawater shimmered with a faint cold light under the dim moonlight. Horsea swam in groups of two or three, their spiral tails gently swaying, their bodies suspended vertically in the water.

Staryu were scattered near the reefs, their central rubies faintly twinkling, as if echoing the stars in the sky.

Occasionally, a Squirtle would swim from afar, its limbs slowly paddling, its head looking left and right, patrolling this quiet sea area. Wherever it went, the water surface rippled gently in circles, then slowly calmed, everything returning to tranquility.

But at this moment, the peaceful scene was broken. From afar, a burning flame was seen soaring across the sea at an extremely fast speed.

This sudden change caused the leisurely Pokémon in the seawater to panic. They instantly scattered in disarray, like birds and beasts, each quickly diving deep beneath the surface, attempting to escape the flame’s attack.

When the enormous flame approached, the Pokémon beneath the surface finally saw clearly: it was a large Charizard, with a human clinging to its back, flying at an extremely high speed across the South Sea.

The person on Charizard’s back was Zhang Lei Yuan. The man and the dragon were speeding towards the waters south of the South Sea at an incredibly fast flight speed.

He also mumbled to himself, “The wealth that the Alliance cannot grasp, I will grasp.”
