Chapter 61: Letting dogs commit crimes

“Xiao Chen, walk slower,” Li Wanji said, holding a copper hammer as she walked in an open area.

Zhou Chen’s pretty face was taut, and her silver teeth were clenched. “My Second Uncle hasn’t appeared yet. I’m worried something might have happened to him.”

Li Wanji pulled Zhou Chen back. “This is the wilderness, not within the Guardian Grand Formation. If you wander around like this, something could easily happen to you.”

“I don’t care,” Zhou Chen snapped. “I must find Second Uncle.”

She naturally trusted her Second Uncle’s strength implicitly.

But as time passed, she began to feel uncertain and increasingly uneasy.

“Zhou Guniang,” Xiao Jing blocked her way. “When he told me to run, he was very calm.”

Zhou Chen and Li Wanji instantly looked over. Calm?

Xiao Jing apologized, “My apologies, I misspoke. He was very peaceful. I believe he must have been fully confident.”

The Old Man also said, “That’s right. With the abilities of the people around him, he definitely won’t be in trouble. If you ask this Old Man, he’s probably feasting and drinking somewhere right now.”

“People around him?” Zhou Chen looked at the Old Man doubtfully.

The Old Man coughed lightly. “It’s nothing. Anyway, he’s definitely fine.”

He felt that this girl probably didn’t know about the existence of the Dao Protector. Otherwise, why would she be so worried?

Zhou Chen hesitated. “But…”

She couldn’t help but look at Xiao Jing.

It was said that he was an extremely terrifying opponent.

Although he was a monster beast, he was no different from a human.

Xiao Jing said, “I’m only at Zhen Xuan Realm First Heaven. My perception of danger is definitely different from his. In fact, even if it were a Zhen Xuan Realm Ninth Heaven, I’d still have to run.”

The Old Man nodded. “That’s the point.”

Li Wanji advised, “Xiao Chen, why don’t we return to Ye City first and quietly wait for him to come back?”

These past few days, they had been wandering outside, fighting different monster beasts. When they encountered powerful ones, they fled in a panic. If not for the two of them, the Old Man and Xiao Jing, they might have lost their lives.

Li Wanji was even more bewildered now. Zhou Chen’s current performance…

She was even worse than her!

Even with a low-grade spirit sword, Zhou Chen’s overall strength was truly that of a Tuotai Realm practitioner.

Zhou Chen bit her lip lightly. “But I still want to look for him again.”

Xiao Jing and the Old Man exchanged glances, then said, “How about this? We’ll quietly go to the place where Zhou Gongzi and I separated. If we can’t find anything, we’ll return to Ye City, how about that?”

He hadn’t mentioned this before because he was afraid that the powerful demon might still be in that place.

If he brought a group of people there, wouldn’t they just be lunch meat?

He was saying this now because so much time had passed; perhaps the other party had already left?

The Old Man chuckled, “I think that’s a good idea. Although this Old Man doesn’t have much ability, his escaping skills are quite good. When the time comes, I’ll scout ahead, and you all can follow behind.”

As the Old Man’s eyes flickered, he had his own little plan.

His roundabout strategy had just begun; was it going to die prematurely?

With this trip, he could also confirm the specific situation.

If he was really dead, he wouldn’t have to marry a wife and have a daughter.

As for these two burdens, he would just throw them back in Ye City and then part ways!

Li Wanji advised, “Zhou Chen, why don’t we follow the Old Man’s suggestion? Since I brought you out, I truly hope you can return safely.”

Zhou Chen took a deep breath. She naturally understood that this might be her last chance.

But thinking of her Second Uncle, who was almost incapable of taking care of himself, she couldn’t help but feel a surge of sadness. “No one is looking after Second Uncle; he must have been hungry these past few days.”

… … … …

Being hungry was indeed a reality.

Zhou You lay on the ground, quietly looking at a porcelain bottle in front of him. It contained bigu pills.

The Earth Dogs would find wild fruits for Zhou You, but they were often so sour and astringent they were hard to swallow.

They couldn’t roast meat well either; what they roasted was only fit for the Dog Clan to eat.

The only thing to consider was the bigu pills.

To eat or not to eat?

That was truly the question.

It would be fine if others knew these were bigu pills, but if they didn’t, they might think they were some kind of poison.

His stomach began to rumble. All the food he had eaten before had been completely emptied out during this time.

Zhou You closed his eyes tightly, grabbed the porcelain bottle with his Right Hand, then poured out a bigu pill, broke open the beeswax, pinched his nose with his Left Hand, and brought the bigu pill to his lips with his Right Hand.

He held it there, frozen.

“Ah, no, no!”

Zhou You put down the bigu pill, feeling a wave of nausea.

He had truly had enough of them; he had literally vomited from eating them.

Zhou You put the bigu pill back into the porcelain bottle, then opened his eyes. “I refuse to believe it. Will I starve to death if I don’t eat this stuff?”

An Earth Dog rushed into a dog hole, wagging its tail, and lay down in front of Zhou You.

Zhou You put away the porcelain bottle. “Something wrong?”

The reporting Earth Dog barked outside.

Zhou You understood what it meant and got up to walk out.

As Zhou You walked out, Earth Dogs emerged from various dog holes.

Zhou You looked up and saw a Wolf King, the size of a calf, on the cliff to his left, overlooking the area. Its aura was at the sixth-grade level.

Dog Fugui had not appeared; he was still diligently cultivating.

Zhou You placed his Left Hand on his scabbard and shouted, “What kind of rat dares to spy on my Earth Dog Clan!”

“It really is a human.”

The Wolf King leaped onto a rock in front of Zhou You. “I am the Wolf King.”

Zhou You said, “Oh? Something wrong?”

The Wolf King said coldly, “This is not the first or second time you’ve let your dogs run wild. I just came to ask you, is this never-ending?”

Zhou You scoffed, “You’ve come to question me?”

The Wolf King sneered, “I’ve long heard that the Earth Dog Clan has a new master; the seventh-grade Dog King has been replaced by a strange human. Seeing you today, you truly are very strange.”

To be fair, before, it really didn’t dare to come over.

That Dog-Headed Man was very cruel, not only to his own kind but also to other races.

Zhou You was fearless. “None of your business!”

The Wolf King’s lips twitched, barely suppressing its anger. How dare a mere human be so arrogant! “I don’t care who you are, but you’d best restrain your subordinates.”

Zhou You took a step forward. “If I don’t restrain them, what can you do?”

“Awoo!”

The Wolf King threw its head back and howled, and instantly, a large line of Wolf Kings appeared above.

In an instant, the pack of dogs erupted, baring their teeth and roaring.

“Dog King!” the Wolf King roared. “You clan stole my clan’s food, and I tolerated it. You openly allowed your subordinates to breed with my clan, and I tolerated that too. But you truly are bullying us wolves too much! Do we have to be cursed just for passing by? What kind of logic is that?!”

Zhou You said proudly, “When have we, the demon race, ever reasoned?”

Upon hearing this, the Wolf King was enraged. “Mountain Chicken King, did you hear his arrogant words? I told you these dog brats can’t be reasoned with!”

Across from them, a Red-bellied Pheasant, the size of a normal dog and also a sixth-grade, stared sharply at Zhou You. “Does the Dog King insist on this? Such arrogant behavior, do you intend to start a war?”
