Chapter 2: The chaotic world after amnesia

The sky was gray as if it had cried, leaving…

My apologies, my memory is still very muddled right now. I just inexplicably thought of that lyric. In reality, today's sky isn't gray; it's quite blue.

For Su Qing, everything felt unreal after leaving the Hospital, as if he had arrived in a city completely unfamiliar to him.

Perhaps for his original self, this city was as familiar as could be, but for the current Su Qing, he didn't know where to go.

Wen Menghan led Su Qing into a taxi. Su Qing watched the scenery outside the window recede, feeling a bit dazed. It felt somewhat familiar, but upon closer thought, he couldn't recall anything.

He looked at the young girl sitting beside him.

Wen Menghan, who claimed to be his Sister, yet their surnames were different.

Regarding this, Sister revealed the truth.

Su Qing's parents divorced, and Su Qing, for some reason, chose to move out and live alone. His mother then formed a new family, and her new partner had a daughter, who was Wen Menghan, now before him.

However, good times didn't last. Su Qing's mother and Wen Menghan's father had conflicts again, but this time, Su Qing's mother gave Wen Menghan another choice: to go live with Su Qing, her unrelated Brother.

So, a few months ago, Wen Menghan found Su Qing using the address Su Qing's mother provided and began living at Su Qing's home.

“…” After hearing everything, Su Qing fell silent.

He didn't know how his pre-amnesia self viewed this, but at least his current self would definitely curse aloud:

“Damn old hag of a mother!”

“Brother,” Wen Menghan tugged at Su Qing’s sleeve, looking at him pitifully, “Although Brother agreed before, if the current Brother doesn’t like me, I can leave…”

Su Qing blinked, gazing at Wen Menghan. Although he didn’t know how his pre-amnesia self viewed this convenient Sister, at least now, Su Qing’s impression of her wasn’t bad.

“If I don’t keep you, how will you live?”

Wen Menghan paused:

“If Brother doesn’t want to keep me, I’ll take all my luggage, and then… if I have money, I can rent a hotel. If I don’t, then… sleeping outside would also…”

“Stop, stop, stop—” Su Qing interrupted Wen Menghan, helplessly rubbing his temples. “Damn it, this situation isn’t something I can refuse, is it…?”

Although she wasn't related by blood, she was still his Sister, after all. Su Qing hadn't sunk to the point of letting his Sister sleep on the streets.

He sighed:

“You should continue living here, but you know my situation now. After we get home, you might have to take care of me instead.”

“Mm-hm.” Wen Menghan immediately nodded obediently. “Brother, don’t worry, Xiao Han will definitely… definitely take good care of Brother…”

Hearing these words, Su Qing sighed. His headache hadn't subsided, so he simply continued to close his eyes and rest.

And when Wen Menghan saw her Brother's actions, a dangerous curve once again appeared at the corner of her lips.

Hehe, Brother is still so soft-hearted. As long as I say these words, Brother definitely won't let me leave.

Brother has amnesia, but it doesn't matter. I will take good care of Brother.

I will make sure that only I, a girl, remain in Brother's memories, so that he cannot leave me.

Brother only needs to love Xiao Han; I will arrange everything else.

...

At Wen Menghan's reminder, Su Qing got out of the car and stood in front of the main gate of a residential complex.

Wen Menghan pulled Su Qing and then said a few words to Uncle Wang in the security booth.

Uncle Wang, with a half-smoked cigarette dangling from his mouth and his security uniform jacket casually draped over him, raised his eyes to look at the Brother and Sister:

“Go on in.”

Uncle Wang pressed the door-opening button, and the electronic gate opened in response. Su Qing and Wen Menghan walked into the complex. In this brief moment, Su Qing glanced at the security booth.

After entering the complex, Su Qing silently followed behind Wen Menghan, watching her lead him step by step to the building downstairs, then through the access control, and into the elevator.

It wasn't until this moment that a weight finally lifted from Su Qing's heart, and he completely confirmed that Wen Menghan was indeed his Sister.

Uncle Wang in the security booth had his keys directly on the table, and there was a thick callus between the index and middle fingers of his right hand—a sign of a seasoned smoker. Moreover, although the tabletop looked messy, items were not stacked on top of each other.

This meant that Uncle Wang was a rather experienced and professional security guard. The look he gave Wen Menghan just now, while containing a hint of vigilance, clearly indicated recognition.

And on the table, on the tenant information list, Su Qing saw his own name, and in that column, “Wen Menghan” was additionally filled in with a black pen, which matched Wen Menghan's description of having arrived a few months ago.

Su Qing therefore lowered his guard against Wen Menghan and followed her into the house.

Su Qing's home wasn't too small; it would certainly be more than enough for Su Qing to live alone. With his Sister joining, it seemed neither too big nor too small.

“This is Brother’s room, and my room is right next door.”

Wen Menghan opened a door and began to introduce it to Su Qing. Su Qing looked at his room; although he still felt no sense of familiarity, he had to accept that it was his room.

The room's layout was quite simple: a bed, a computer, a bookshelf, and a wardrobe. There was nothing else.

“How does Brother feel? Did you remember anything?” Wen Menghan looked at Su Qing with some anticipation.

Su Qing, however, shook his head helplessly:

“Unfortunately, no. But the good news is I don’t dislike this room, so it seems even with amnesia, my preferences haven’t changed.”

Wen Menghan smiled, then said:

“I’ll go make dinner. Brother can rest in the room first.”

“Mm.”

As Sister left the room, Su Qing began to wander aimlessly around the room. He looked at the various books filling the bookshelf, took one down, and opened it to read.

It was fine if he didn't look, but once he did, Su Qing found it strange.

The entire book actually felt very familiar to Su Qing, and it wasn’t the content that was familiar—every single word was familiar.

Su Qing closed the book and could recite every word from it without a single error!

Su Qing frowned. What was going on? Even if I only lost memories related to personal experiences, remembering these things so clearly is too strange, isn't it?

Su Qing took down another book and searched his memory for it. It was the same; every word seemed to be firmly etched in his mind.

“Hey, hey, hey, what is this? A cheat code given by God to compensate for amnesia?”

Su Qing muttered in his mind.

Meanwhile, Wen Menghan held a phone in her hand. The progress bar on the screen was filling rapidly, with a line of text above it:

“Formatting phone…”

Wen Menghan watched the progress bar reach its end and chuckled foolishly.

Brother, let Xiao Han delete the bad memories for you. The future Brother won't have to worry about anything; just loving Xiao Han will be enough.

Then, Wen Menghan removed the back cover and took out the SIM card.
