Chapter 24: property

Zheng Fan certainly wouldn't return so soon after coming out.

Lin Yilin also knew this and didn't object; seeing the scene with her own eyes was enough.

When Zheng Fan obtained a physical body, he wouldn't be as abstractly carefree as he was in his Illusion state; he had to act according to his current state.

Rather, the sensation of returning to reality was enough to make him ecstatic.

After finding Kaibisi's address, Zheng Fan pulled out a key from Lin Yilin's small bag, ready to go in, but twisting the key didn't give him the feeling of unlocking anything.

"The door isn't locked."

He pushed the door open and entered the house.

A strong smell of alcohol assaulted his nose. Zheng Fan waved away some of the scent and didn't bother closing the door, letting some fresh air into the room.

The house had a three-bedroom, one-living room layout, with the kitchen connected to the living room, nothing particularly unusual.

There were several spots of vomit on the floor, emitting an unpleasant odor, and things were scattered everywhere, as if someone had roughly rummaged through them.

Unfortunately, there was no one in the house, so it wouldn't be possible to resolve everything in one go as Lin Yilin had anticipated.

"Kaibisi's husband must have returned home, but he didn't stay long. Perhaps he realized his wife and child were gone. I wonder what he's thinking now," Zheng Fan said.

Lin Yilin's shadow said, "People affected by Illusion tend to become fixated, driven by their initial desires, and their vision narrows. He might not be able to think that deeply."

"Really?" Zheng Fan came to what appeared to be a child's room, where bloodstains and flesh residue remained on the floor.

Lin Yilin paused, then suddenly spoke, "Someone was in this room, just before us!"

"That briefcase was placed in this room by Kaibisi's husband. Did he want to leave the 'money' for his child?" Zheng Fan quickly went to the window and peered out. The high floor offered a wide view, and he scanned the surroundings.

Lin Yilin continued, "But someone else came and took the briefcase. That box isn't just a manifestation of Illusion; perhaps it has other meanings."

"Although we didn't run into them directly, it seems we still gained something," Zheng Fan said, his gaze already fixed on a person walking out of the residential complex.

The main focus was the briefcase in his hand; although the surface had been wiped, the bloodstains in the crevices hadn't been completely cleaned.

"That's him," Lin Yilin quickly stated.

Swish!

Zheng Fan directly controlled Lin Yilin's body, leaping out of the window, throwing out black Earthworms to bite onto the exterior walls of surrounding buildings, moving between the buildings like Spider-Man.

A man with a somewhat dull expression, carrying a briefcase, was walking on the road when he suddenly heard a whooshing sound behind him.

The moment he turned around, he saw the "beautiful girl descending from the sky" that otaku dream of.

Then, in a cool knightly flying kick pose, she aimed for his face.

However, his reaction didn't match his previous dull appearance; he raised the briefcase with both hands to block, taking "Lin Yilin's" kick head-on.

Bang!

With a sound, the man still flew backward and fell to the ground. The briefcase was significantly dented and opened, with uncoagulated blood seeping out.

"Ah!" the man roared and shrieked, "Look what you've done!?

"Hmm?"

"It's all money, this is all money!" the man muttered incoherently, clutching the oozing blood and flesh.

"Do you want to hear what you're saying?" "Lin Yilin" walked forward, speechless.

"Money can buy everything, money is power, this is all money! Lind is truly crazy; he didn't take this money, he left it at home..."

The man mumbled, and seeing "Lin Yilin" approach, his expression turned fierce. He tore open the suitcase and reached directly into the blood and flesh inside.

"Lin Yilin's" approaching footsteps halted abruptly, then her body quickly leaned backward.

Swish!

A blood-colored blade, mixed with fragmented white bones, sharply sliced past "Lin Yilin's" face, then retracted flexibly.

Looking closely, the blood and flesh in the box had transformed into a grotesque blood-bone blade in the man's hand.

"All the money was spent on this, it's all your fault, it's all your fault!" the man shouted, raising the blade and charging to hack.

The man's movements were decent, not too loose but not particularly skilled, but the blade in his hand was different. He merely swung the blade symbolically, yet the blade itself seemed to have a will of its own, rapidly extending and slicing. At close range, it was difficult for ordinary human eyes to catch.

"Lin Yilin" moved agilely, dodging and weaving through the blood blade's slashes, finally creating a bit of distance: "Interesting."

"Ah!"

The man continued to charge forward, eyes bloodshot, but "Lin Yilin" had already extended her hand, making a sword-finger gesture at him, and lightly swiped.

Rip!

A red line streaked through the void, cutting a bloody gash across the man's chest, blood flowing profusely.

"But only 'a bit' interesting," "Lin Yilin" chuckled.

The man swayed as he bled heavily from his wound, propping himself up with the blood blade to avoid falling.

Zheng Fan glanced at his hand: "The feel isn't right. Is this body weakened when using someone else's ability? Otherwise, he should have been cut in half by now."

"...Are you using Jiang Si's Killing demon ability?" Lin Yilin's shadow spoke faintly.

"Hmm, this one feels handier..."

"Use mine," Lin Yilin interrupted forcefully.

"Alright, alright."

Black Earthworms crawled out of the shadow, slithering around for a moment. As "Lin Yilin" raised her hand, they all suddenly shot up like startled ambush vipers in the grass, pouncing towards the man.

The blood blade tried to retaliate but was directly shattered by a black Earthworm, which then tightly bound the man.

"My money! My money! Let me go! You thief! Robber!"

Even though he was in a situation where he could be crushed to death at any moment, his eyes still seemed more concerned with his "money."

Beside them, black Earthworms diligently picked up the fragments of the blood blade from the ground, tossed them back into the already tattered briefcase, and then dragged it over to "Lin Yilin," handing it to her.

Indeed, black Earthworms could do things that the red line ability couldn't. Zheng Fan briefly apologized to them, then took the briefcase. Not minding the mess, he directly reached in and touched the blood blade fragments to examine them.

The bound man struggled even more violently, but he couldn't break free from the Earthworms' restraint at all.

"How is this done? Illusion ability?" Zheng Fan asked.

"It should be. This mechanism is... property?" Lin Yilin pondered, already having some guesses.

"Property?"

"He thinks these things are his money, so he used this money to 'purchase' a 'weapon,' and thus these blood and flesh transformed into a powerful weapon with a high violence index, a Phantasms in a sense."

"What 'I reckon' power," Zheng Fan scoffed.

"Although I don't know what 'I reckon' means in Mr. Illusion's words, it should be different. In short, this ability is still a mechanism centered on Illusion... In fact, this type of property-related Illusion is not uncommon in Dadu. I encountered it a few times when I followed my foster father on cases," Lin Yilin said.

"The initial influence of this type of Illusion is minimal. To reach this point, it means that someone, a group, has constructed an impression system where blood and flesh serve as currency."

Only then can these blood and flesh be used to "shop."
