Chapter 93: Life Gene

“A very new company?” Jiang Si was a little surprised to hear the information Zheng Fan relayed to her.

“Hmm, a company registered about a month or two ago. Although it claims to specialize in high-end technologies like genetic engineering, there are no visible operational traces. It looks completely like a shell company.”

“Did people from this company choose to sell their souls to a dinosaur demon for some need?” Jiang Si asked.

Jiang Si was riding an electric scooter she had picked up from the roadside, while Zheng Fan sat sideways on the back seat, legs crossed, completely unafraid of falling off.

Regarding Jiang Si's speculation, he looked at his phone and replied, “Perhaps. This company might have been established from the beginning for the Illusion behind it. Aside from a company address that looks legitimate, no facilities or venues related to the company's industry were prepared. If it weren't connected to the Illusion, it would just be a playful company with nothing worth noting.”

“Genetic engineering sounds like something that could easily cause panic,” Jiang Si also learned from Zheng Fan what kind of thing the source of the dinosaurs was this time.

“For the general public, it truly is something seen through a fog.”

Zheng Fan said, turning to look at the road ahead.

Their current destination was not Xixikeke Street, but rather back along Beixiao Road towards Tuonaduolei Street.

The company's address was not in Xixikeke, but on Tuonaduolei Street, next to Xixikeke Street.

The buildings in Tuonaduolei felt to Zheng Fan like the general towns back home, mostly low-rise houses, with not as many lights at night.

Aside from some large detached houses in the peripheral areas, the main impression of the street was that it was dirty, messy, and poor.

Xixikeke during the day was almost indistinguishable from the White District, but that was due to Xixikeke's favorable geographical location and long-term development. Other surrounding districts were not so fortunate.

Only some wealthy families would choose to purchase property here because real estate was cheap and it was far from high-intensity competition and conflict. As long as they paid some money to the dominant forces in the district, it would be considered a property fee, and then no one would be so foolish as to cause trouble.

“We're here.”

A quiet, deserted street, with no lights in the surrounding houses. As far as the eye could see, there was only a lonely, dilapidated streetlight at a distant intersection.

Zheng Fan looked at a building next to them. It looked very old, with large areas of the outer wall peeling off.

“I can't tell,” Jiang Si looked along Zheng Fan's gaze, but couldn't even see a company logo or name.

“They're opening a company in a place like this, what do you expect to see?” Zheng Fan said, getting off the electric scooter.

“Are there really living people here?” Jiang Si observed her surroundings.

“It might just be a shell used as a front, with the real location elsewhere, but we'll only know for sure after we check it out first.” Zheng Fan said, walking into the building.

Jiang Si followed behind him, found an unlocked window, opened it, and climbed inside.

“The smell of blood?” As soon as she entered, Jiang Si immediately smelled something.

“How old is it?”

“Very fresh.”

“Then it seems there's something to this,” Zheng Fan's lips curled into a slight smile.

Next, with Jiang Si leading the way, the two ascended to the second floor via a narrow and very steep staircase.

Thump-thump—

A strange, muffled knocking sound suddenly came from the corner ahead.

Jiang Si immediately stopped.

Zheng Fan directly turned to look at the room window beside the hallway: “An enemy lure.”

Jiang Si glanced out of the corner of her eye. In the dark room next to them, a blurry, non-human silhouette could vaguely be seen behind the window glass.

Something was waiting for her to be attracted by the knocking sound, and when she passed that window, the thing in the room would pounce and attack.

Jiang Si reached out, released red lines that pierced the glass and wrapped around the neck of a dinosaur behind the window, pulling it out of the room and slamming it onto the hallway.

“Roar!” The dinosaur, thrown to the ground, struggled violently. Jiang Si glanced at it, then with a swipe of her hand, the red lines binding its neck tightened, severing the dinosaur's head.

The sound of breaking glass and the dinosaur's screams were incredibly clear in the dark floor.

Around the corner ahead, a dinosaur quickly appeared.

Another one also appeared at the corner at the end of the hallway behind them.

Velociraptor, though most people are more familiar with the name “Raptor.”

As the Velociraptor in front appeared, its claws were still hooked into a bloody corpse, which, judging by its clothing, was similar to the Life Gene employee Zheng Fan had killed earlier.

“What's going on?” Jiang Si asked curiously.

“Something might have happened.”

The two Velociraptors shrieked, then charged towards Zheng Fan and Jiang Si.

But halfway through their run, their bodies were suddenly cut into several pieces. Fragments and blood scattered across the floor due to inertia, and Zheng Fan and Jiang Si subtly dodged.

Jiang Si glanced at the Velociraptor's remains: “Speaking of which, all the dinosaurs we've seen so far are very early restoration images.”

“You know quite a bit,” Zheng Fan said, passing by her.

“Although I didn't go to school, I'm not illiterate!” Jiang Si earnestly reiterated.

The two were about to go up and examine the corpse when a piercing scream came from downstairs.

“No way, didn't we just get here? We haven't even started having fun yet.”

“Let's go,” Zheng Fan immediately turned back, preparing to go downstairs.

But Jiang Si said, “No need.”

She gestured with her hand, softly reciting the direction of the sound she had just heard, then nodded. With a raise of her hand, red lines converged into a ball and smashed into the floor, directly making a large opening through which she jumped down.

Zheng Fan: ?

Below, a Dilophosaurus was riding on a company employee, its neck frills spread open.

As Jiang Si jumped down, she landed a flying kick directly on the Dilophosaurus's head.

The Dilophosaurus's fragile neck snapped instantly, and its body flew sideways, crashing through the wall and going silent.

Landing beside the employee, Jiang Si immediately leaned over and asked, “Are you alright?”

The company employee was stunned.

Could this be the legendary heroine saving the handsome man?

At a moment of life-threatening danger, would the scene of being rescued by a beautiful girl falling from the sky actually happen to him? Or was it just his Illusion before being bitten to death by a dinosaur…

Rip!

Sharp pain came from the wound, bringing him back from his daze. It turned out Jiang Si had kindly used her red lines to help him stitch up the larger open wound.

However, this rough action only deepened the pain.

“Your scream is quite lively,” Jiang Si said with a smile.

But now, the other party dared not have any more Illusions.

“Hmm? Aren't you… Lu Lu?” Zheng Fan leaned down through the hole, and when he saw the employee's face, he felt a little familiar. He dug through his memory and finally recalled a name.

Jiang Si looked up: “Does Evil Mr. know him?”

“A brief acquaintance, it's fine, just ask him directly.”

He had only met him and wasn't close. After confirming with Zheng Fan, Jiang Si felt relieved.

“Are you an employee of this company?”

“I'm just a temporary worker, I just started a week ago…” Lu Chongming said miserably. Fortunately, he was a strong man. After experiencing such a situation, his eyes were only teary, and he didn't cry.

Also, this young lady, while stitching, could she please not move the threads stuck in his flesh?! It hurts so much!
