Chapter 6: Carrie

Chapter 6: Carrie

Xue Landi drove towards the sea.

Having a car made things much more convenient.

He even let the car speed up, so much so that nearby residents could hear the car, but not enough to disturb them.

"It seems I'm the one with true luck. You three really solved my urgent problem. Young and strong, you should be able to make the flower bear fruit five or six days earlier, right?"

"But thinking about it, it's really troublesome. Later, I'll have to painstakingly bury you next to the Lotus Seed."

"Forget it, no choice. After all, this is all for a powerful physical body."

"Damn it, I originally wanted to spend these two weeks discreetly. Why do you always have to provoke me?"

Saying this, Xue Landi still felt it wasn't satisfying enough. He pulled out the knife from Billy's throat and stabbed his chest several more times.

"Forget it, I shouldn't have done that. You've also helped me, so I shouldn't take my anger out on you. I apologize to you."

Xue Landi opened Billy's unopened soda can, tore it open, poured it over the passenger seat and the back seats, then wedged the empty can between the seats.

"This is evidence of you drunk driving and falling into the sea. In the vast ocean, it's normal not to find a body."

He didn't get out of the car when passing his house. He just opened the car window and threw his phone and backpack onto his doorstep, then accelerated towards the shore.

Xue Landi wasn't so foolish as to drive to the top of the cliff, the place where he planted the True Lotus.

He chose another section of the coast, a distance from the Lotus Seed, so that when the police came to salvage the car, it wouldn't affect his Lotus Seed.

"Ready to surf?"

The road ahead began to become desolate, and there were already road signs and guardrails, but they were just waterproof cardboard.

Xue Landi easily sped past, aiming for the small pier built with wooden planks by the sea. He forged ahead, and finally, the car crashed into the water after traveling a considerable distance.

"Gurgle, gurgle."

Seawater immediately poured into the car through the windows.

Xue Landi, possessing Water Affinity, shot out of the car window like a fish. After the car was completely submerged, he opened the two back doors, dragged out Karl and Robert, and then rescued Billy from the passenger seat.

After tying the three together with their clothes, Xue Landi finally surfaced.

"Huff. Huff!"

Locating the direction of the Lotus Seed, the next step was to slowly swim over.

"It's a good thing I have Water Affinity, otherwise, not to mention whether I'd have enough stamina, I'd freeze to death just from the cold."

It took almost an hour. When Xue Landi's body was completely cold, he finally managed to drag the three to the location of the Lotus Seed.

Xue Landi brushed away the sand on the clay pot. The clay pot had already begun to show signs of cracking, which indicated that the seeds inside were beginning to vitalize and absorb nutrients from the surroundings.

Xue Landi stripped the clothes off the three, tied them to the reefs around the flower seed, and buried a portion of their bodies, either an arm or a leg, into the sand.

Once the flower seed developed roots, it would automatically seek out surrounding nutrients for replenishment.

These three were only worth this much.

Xue Landi smiled, then resurfaced.

"At this rate, it will take root in one night, and then with these three bodies as fertilizer, the True Lotus will immediately enter its growth period."

Everything was developing in a positive direction.

In two or three days, the disappearance of these three guys might be noticed by the police. They might find their information based on surveillance footage, along with the cigarette butts and liquor bottles in the car.

"This is such an obvious accident. Perhaps they were too high or drunk. Anyway, these guys accelerated the car to the maximum. Residents by the road confirmed hearing the car that night, and then they themselves weren't watching the road and finally drove into the sea."

It had nothing to do with him.

Even if their bodies weren't found, it would probably be assumed that they were swept into the sea by the currents during their attempt to save themselves.

Once all the arrangements were complete, fatigue and weakness immediately spread throughout Xue Landi's body.

"This weak body, this damned mortal body!"

Xue Landi looked at his wrists, which were covered in dense scratches.

Even with medicine, they couldn't heal quickly.

In one week, he had to gather enough energy to summon the river god. Without the power of faith, Xue Landi could only offer his own life force. At the same time, he also had to refine his essence blood to nourish the Lotus Seed.

It was only the adrenaline rush from tonight's struggle that allowed him to persevere until now.

By the time Xue Landi returned home, it was already late at night. He picked up his backpack in the yard and quietly went back inside.

He was too tired.

By tomorrow, backaches and muscle soreness would probably be the least of his worries.

"But it's all worth it."

Afterward, Xue Landi casually washed up and went to bed.

The next day.

Xue Landi still woke up early. Although his whole body ached, he still had things to do.

For example, setting up sensors under the cliff so he could monitor the situation near the Lotus Seed on his phone.

Of course, he also had to find a way to ride his bicycle back from Town.

As he was about to go downstairs, Xue Landi glanced out the window and saw his neighbor, Carrie, standing at his doorstep, seemingly wanting to knock, but then quietly lowering her hand after reaching out.

Then she took another deep breath, as if psyching herself up, but after raising her hand, she lowered it again.

What a lovely girl.

"But why is she here?"

Xue Landi went downstairs and opened the door.

He looked expressionlessly at Carrie, who hastily withdrew her hand.

As soon as the door opened, Carrie, like a startled rabbit, quickly lowered her head, her head bowed cautiously, her eyes darting to other places.

Then she handed him a phone.

"This is what I... found at your doorstep... It has... your family's family photo on it."

Xue Landi looked at it and realized it really was his phone.

Recalling, he had been too tired when he came back last night. He had only thought about his backpack and had forgotten his phone.

"Oh, thank you."

Xue Landi reached out to take the phone and then looked at Carrie.

She was still dressed in very old-fashioned clothes: a wrinkled plaid shirt with buttons all the way up to her neck, a blue wool sweater over it, and faded jeans.

This outfit might be more suitable for a male engineering student or programmer, not for a bright girl like Carrie.

She still kept her head down, but her eyes would subconsciously sneak a peek forward, and then immediately dart away when she noticed Xue Landi's gaze.

"It's nothing... I'll go to school now then."

After saying this, she immediately turned around with her head down, but after a few steps, she stopped again.

She cautiously turned her head and asked.

"Landi... aren't you going to school?"

In Carrie's eyes, her neighbor was like her, both isolated and bullied, with no friends at school. Although they hadn't interacted before, there was a feeling of shared fate.

But ever since the changes in the Xue family, things seemed different.

Xue Landi no longer went to school, and rarely even showed his face. Moreover, his body seemed to get weaker day by day, which worried Carrie, so she bravely spoke up to show concern.
