Chapter 8: Hacking the CIA

Nitrogen gas springs have many advantages: small size, large elasticity, long life... This item is not suitable for firearms, not even for the previous grappling hook gun.

But when combined with a web-shooter, it's quite perfect, especially the flat, Military-canteen-shaped one that Batman made himself in the black factory, which fits perfectly on his arm.

The "web-shooter," redesigned by Batman, is almost unrecognizable from its original form, resembling a wrist-mounted crossbow.

Batman wears it on the outside of his forearm, relying on muscle control to trigger it.

The original web-shooter's firing principle, similar to an air cannon, made the liquid web shoot out at a speed that was not slow, fast enough to exceed the speed of bullets fired from ordinary firearms.

However, Batman's previous grappling hook gun itself relied on gunpowder or high-pressure air for propulsion, and its body had also been modified, making the grappling hook's launch speed far greater than that of ordinary bullets.

The combination of the two gave Batman a new tool that possessed the advantages of both a grappling hook gun and a web-shooter.

"The Cat Burglar was not locked up in the Police Station, so I can't find out if she has a record of arson, murder, or robbery."

Batman attached the two newly completed tools to his arms. With a twitch of his muscles, an extremely subtle ejection sound was heard, and liquid web shot out at an extremely fast speed, solidifying in the air and flying into the distance in the blink of an eye.

"Peter Parker's computer can only meet the daily needs of ordinary people. I need a higher-spec computer, similar to those in Dr. Otto's laboratory, to meet my frequent need to hack into various systems."

Batman had tried Peter's computer, and even after upgrading, it simply couldn't run a virtual machine.

While recording the data for the new tools, Batman began to conceive his subsequent plans in his mind.

His goal was very clear: strike at the Gangs of New York to accumulate funds, then double the funds by correcting the formula and getting involved in Dr. Otto's nuclear fusion research.

Next was to establish his own business empire, providing financial backing for the large-scale investment in research for a Crossing device.

At the same time, in this process, Batman planned to simultaneously search for other methods and continuously combat crime.

—Combating crime was almost ingrained in his soul. Even after transmigrating to this completely unfamiliar World, Batman had no intention of taking a break.

While naming the new tool the Batarang, Batman also completed the improvement of the web fluid formula.

The new formula allowed the launched web to firmly stick to anything. Even when facing a guy like Squid Man, who has mucus on his body, the web could entangle him and prevent him from easily breaking free as he did last night.

Not only that, Batman completely changed the color of the web to black.

Most of his actions took place at night, and White web would reflect light, exposing his whereabouts.

It was still early, so Batman was not in a hurry to confront Squid Man. Before doing so, he still had an important task: spending money and dealing with the firearms.

The 150,000 in cash Joseph brought last night was enough for Batman to buy the components he wanted on the market and assemble a computer that could temporarily meet his needs.

As for the firearms brought by The Cat Burglar, they came from a Military factory named Stark. After inspecting them one by one, Batman found that these firearms had been tampered with.

The person who tampered with them was very skilled and had a very deep understanding of firearms, but Batman still immediately identified the problem:.

These guns would jam halfway through the magazine due to internal structural problems. Unless high-precision tools were used for correction, these guns would be completely useless.

Going to a Gang firefight with useless guns was not much different from going with a Water gun.

He dug a pit and buried these firearms on the spot. For the remaining time, Batman went out as Peter Parker and bought computer components and some other tools.

After assembling the computer, Batman did not immediately rush to hack into the New York Police system. Instead, he drew a sketch and uploaded it to the computer.

The person in the sketch was The Cat Burglar. Batman perfectly recreated her appearance on paper from memory.

This was his next step in his plan, after tying The Cat Burglar to the Police Station and not caring if she could escape: directly hacking into the New York Police system to find all information about her.

"The Cat Burglar, real name Felicia Hardy, twenty years old, a student at Empire State University, her father is a salesman..."

Batman looked at the information about The Cat Burglar displayed on the computer screen, word by word.

Most of it was true, except that her father's identity was not publicly displayed as the master thief "The Cat Burglar," but rather as a salesman.

The New York Police system showed that The Cat Burglar had a criminal record, but it was not for arson, murder, or robbery. Instead, it was for kicking a classmate's testicles when he tried to assault her during her first year of college.

"In her statement, The Cat Burglar claimed to have studied various martial arts and combat techniques since childhood... She's a good potential partner."

Batman stopped browsing the information and began the real task after hacking into the Police system.

The first thing:

He deleted all videos that could expose Spider-Man's whereabouts, accent, or physique, retaining only a portion of videos where features could not be identified.

This way, with Batman's extremely strong anti-reconnaissance awareness, almost no one would be able to find out that he was the former Spider-Man, Peter Parker.

The second thing:

Batman did not continue to hack into the New York Police system. Instead, he turned his attention to another well-known organization: the CIA.

The reason Batman considered a high-spec computer as his second "equipment" after the Batarang was precisely for hacking into the CIA.

He needed to understand if supernatural powers existed in this World and to figure out if they could help him return to Gotham.

"Squid Man, real name Don Callahan, a native New York City hooligan, transformed into Squid Man after undergoing Osborn Enterprise's Super Soldier Serum modification project. He is employed by various Gangs in New York City as a killer and has killed seven people..."

Supernatural powers did exist. The first was Squid Man, whom Batman planned to confront in the Sewer tonight.

"Possesses strength and speed far beyond human capabilities, almost immune to bullets, can breathe underwater, and can cling vertically to glass walls, making capture extremely difficult..."

Batman noted down all the information about Squid Man from the CIA files, then looked at the second entry.

"Hulk, real name Bruce Banner..."

This was none other than the scientist Batman had seen in Dr. Otto's laboratory, hanging on the wall alongside Einstein and others.

"...has not appeared since a major battle with the Military in 2003."

The CIA's records of supernatural beings currently only listed these two. Another was "Captain America" Steve Rogers, the first person in the World to be injected with the Super Soldier Serum, who had already been confirmed as missing.

As for non-biological supernatural powers, the CIA only recorded one thing, named "Tesseract."

Before he could check the specific information about the Tesseract, Batman realized that the CIA had discovered him as an intruder and was already tracing his steps and about to pinpoint his location.

Without any hesitation, he immediately stopped hacking, cleared all traces, and then began to make final preparations for tonight's operation against Squid Man.
