Chapter 1: Chapter 1 A Strange World

(Collecting brains now!)

(Char-grilled brain flower, 1 yuan per skewer)

(Most settings are from 'Return My Dog's Life'. If there's a conflict with 'Return My Dog's Life', mine takes precedence.)

Zhang Fei transmigrated. Before transmigrating, he was playing that familiar Cleaner simulator. He was complaining about how rude the local gangsters were while diligently working. Just as Zhang Fei was making his fourth round in the room to find that last 1% of progress, his computer screen went black.

Then, he found himself waking up in an unfamiliar city. Through familiar landmarks, Zhang Fei quickly discovered his location. If he wasn't mistaken, he should have gone abroad.

He arrived in America. Soon, Zhang Fei accepted the fact that he had transmigrated. After all, it was a very obvious sign when he suddenly turned into a white man. As someone who had experienced the impact of the internet era, Zhang Fei quickly accepted his new identity, William Stanley, a young white man.

He had decent muscles, wore a cheap suit, and carried a Glock 17 behind him. This gun used 9mm bullets, had a 17-round magazine, and a spare magazine.

Why would he carry a gun with him? Although William understood that in free America, shootings happened every day, wasn't this a bit too much freedom? Moreover, William didn't think he was some street punk. After all, no punk would carry such a professional magazine pouch!

Then, William received a message.

"Welcome to the High Table. You can now install this application. Please remember that you will serve the High Table and continue to provide service. Please proceed to the Continental Hotel on XX Street by 3 PM for initial business processing. Code: 89-48-x-5196"

Hiss~ Something's not right! What does this mean, 'Return My Dog's Life'? At this moment, William looked around again. A chill immediately ran down his spine. What did this mean, a promotional event before the movie's release?

Then, William decided to go and see. Soon, he found the so-called Continental Hotel in LSJ. It was an unassuming Hotel. The front door was wide open. There were two greeters at the entrance. They looked no different from anyone else.

When William walked inside, he found it was similar to a regular Hotel. Just an ordinary star-rated Hotel.

He walked to the front desk. A blonde, curvy beauty in a custom-made suit stood behind the counter.

Seeing William's arrival, she showed no impatience, a perfect smile on her face, and said to William, "Hello, welcome to the Continental Hotel. How may I help you?"

William pulled himself away from her beauty. However, it was clear he couldn't remember the code, so he had to pull out his phone and read it to the attendant.

Annabelle immediately knew he was a newcomer, but the smile on her face remained unchanged. She handed William a gold coin, or rather, a metal commemorative coin. She turned slightly to point the way for William.

"Go through this door, walk to the end, turn left, take the elevator to B2, knock three times, give the gold coin to the doorman, and then proceed with your business."

William nodded, truly curious. Now he no longer thought this was some movie promotion. Such an exciting thing was quite appealing to him, someone who grew up in peace.

Following Annabelle's directions, he walked all the way to a wooden door. After smoothly handing over the gold coin, William saw a girl with glasses, full of tattoos, and a lip piercing.

Seeing William enter, she enthusiastically introduced herself. "Hello, my name is Book. I'm going to do a simple registration for you."

Then, without giving William a chance to speak, she said, "Name."

William could only follow her rhythm.

"William, William Stanley."

"Age?"

"19"

"Position applied for." When she said this, Book looked up at William.

"Position?" William was a bit confused.

"Yes, position. Most people choose 'Worker', though most people don't have a choice," Book explained. "So, do you have credentials?"

William licked his lips: "What credentials?"

The smile on Book's face faded a bit. Although she knew from his attire that there shouldn't be any surprises, she still habitually asked.

Looking at the bewildered eyes of the clueless young man opposite her, Book felt a bit helpless and also some pity. Once you enter this door, it's not easy to leave.

"Never mind, I'm kind-hearted, I'll explain it to you."

"Most people can only apply to be assassins. We call most killers 'Workers'. This is the choice for most people."

"Of course, some people don't have to do that. The Continental Hotel is affiliated with the High Table, operating under its supervision. It provides safe haven and exists as a designated safe zone. And there are many organizations also affiliated with the High Table."

"Most will work within an organization. But a small number will choose open selection, just like you, coming here. But because they have 【credentials】, do you understand? Meaning privileges. So they can choose many things, such as being a firearms salesman, or a clerk like me, and so on."

"You don't need to know anything else. It will be explained to you after you officially start your job." Book sighed. She casually wrote "Worker" on the document. She felt a sense of guilt looking at this kid. He looked like he'd never done any work. Most newcomers join small gangs to make ends meet. She wondered how this kid found his way here. She feared he wouldn't be able to get the job.

"Alright, information collection is complete," Book said. She rummaged through a box under the counter and pulled out an old flip phone, tossing it to William.

Then, with a cold face, she said to William, "Your mission will be assigned within a week. Completing the mission means you are officially employed. If you fail to complete it, I'm sorry, but according to regulations, your life will be reclaimed by the High Table. The moment you accept and use the gold coin, it signifies your acceptance of social activities under the High Table's governance."

"Good luck, Mr. William." Then Book showed her perfectly practiced smile: "We look forward to your next visit."

William stood up, his heart pounding wildly. The tension stimulated him so much that he was almost breathless. But, it was so cool!

He walked out, stumbling back the way he came. He smiled at Miss Annabelle and prepared to leave. His mind was a mess right now.

Immediately after, he heard Miss Annabelle say, "We look forward to your next stay, Mr. William. I wish you success in your work."

Here it comes! It's really just like in the movie! William nodded and walked out. He found a random coffee shop. He needed something cold to calm down.
