Chapter 7: Unexplained confidence in cooking skills

Bai Hao and Mei watched the kitchen slowly emit black smoke, and Kiana poked her head out, looking embarrassed.

"Now you know why a Kaslana shouldn't be allowed in the kitchen, right?"

Mei nodded. After all, she had seen it with her own eyes. Who would have thought that just asking Kiana to serve a dish would result in her blowing up the kitchen!

"Kiana, what did you do in the kitchen?"

Kiana looked at Mei's puzzled pretty face, and Bai Hao's 'I knew it' expression, and she lowered her head in shame.

"I, I accidentally turned on the gas stove."

"And then?"

"Then, then I saw a cockroach, so I picked up a lighter and wanted to light it to end its sinful life sooner, and then..."

"And then the kitchen exploded, right?"

Bai Hao looked at the embarrassed Kiana, who had her head down, with an understanding expression. Kiana had completely inherited Siegfried's cooking skills.

It's not that the Kaslana family can't cook, but at least the Kaslana family's ancestors could. As for why no Kaslana after Kevin could cook...

Heh, it was completely inherited from Mei's genes. Bai Hao still remembers when Mei first cooked for Kevin and him, and they both ended up in the hospital for two weeks and two months, respectively.

Of course, Kevin was the one who stayed for two months. Seeing that it was Mei's cooking, Kevin devoured it without a second thought, making Bai Hao think his memory was playing tricks on him.

So, driven by curiosity, Bai Hao also tried a bite and was almost sent to his grave by Mei on the spot.

Kiana kept her head down and didn't speak, but her meaning was clear: it was exactly as Bai Hao said.

"Sigh! Looks like we'll have to make it again."

Mei sighed. Just then, Kiana ran back into the kitchen and brought out a plate covered by another plate, from which the aroma of food wafted.

"Mei, I'm sorry, I ruined your food, but I did manage to save one plate."

She removed the top plate, revealing a plate full of fried chicken. Kiana's mouth watered at the sight of the fried chicken, but she still placed it on the table and sat down quietly.

For a carnivore like Kiana, resisting Mei's secret recipe fried chicken was almost too cruel.

Bai Hao picked up a piece of fried chicken and put it into his mouth under Kiana's longing gaze.

"Mmm! Delicious! This fried chicken is crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, juicy, and perfectly salted. Mei, your cooking is excellent!"

Praised by Bai Hao, Mei's face blushed, and she smiled, "It's okay, it's not as delicious as you say."

Bai Hao smiled and didn't say much more. After all, Mei's personality was just like that: modest and gentle.

This is quite rare in one person, let alone a young lady like Mei.

In Bai Hao's impression, Mei was the most 'unsuccessful' young lady he had ever met.

Other young ladies were arrogant, haughty, and never did anything themselves. Mei, however, was a stark contrast to them: she could cook, was gentle, modest, and even dabbled in other areas.

It could be said that Mei had completely transcended the normal definition of a young lady and was developing into an all-rounder.

Bai Hao stretched his arms forward, crossing his hands, and said, "Since Mei has shown off a bit, I'll show off my skills too."

"Eh? Does Bai Hao (classmate) also know how to cook?"

Facing Mei's question, Bai Hao confidently patted his chest and said, "Of course! My old friends all say my cooking is delicious, so they wouldn't lie to you. Just wait."

After speaking, he took a pot and a spatula from his backpack and walked into the kitchen.

Mei and Kiana were both stunned when Bai Hao pulled a pot and spatula out of his backpack. They looked at the backpack, which seemed too small for the pot.

"How did Bai Hao fit such a big pot into such a small bag?"

"I don't know either."

In the kitchen, Bai Hao picked up the cleaver on the table and gestured with it. Hmm, it was still usable.

Then he picked up a peeled potato, tossed it up, and his arm moved rapidly. Streaks of white light flashed, and many cracks appeared on the potato.

Bai Hao casually grabbed a plate and caught the falling potato. The potato, which was whole just moments before, turned into individual cubes the moment it touched the plate.

At the doorway, two heads peered out, their faces filled with shock at the sight.

"So, so amazing!"

Next, Bai Hao took out a piece of beef short rib. The beef in this area is generally the best quality meat on the cow. Bai Hao inserted the knife between the bone and the meat, then sliced along the bone.

Immediately, a strip of meat was separated. Mei's eyes lit up with anticipation, seeing Bai Hao's skillful technique.

A moment later, Bai Hao brought a plate of braised beef with potatoes to the living room. He placed the dish on the table, and Kiana and Mei couldn't help but swallow their saliva, looking at the bright and appealing dish.

Before Bai Hao could speak, Kiana picked up a piece of beef and put it into her mouth, her face showing an expression of bliss.

Bai Hao looked happy, seeing Kiana's expression of enjoyment. However, the next moment, Kiana's face suddenly turned green, and then—

"Waaah!~"

"(゚д゚)!"

"(╯°□°)╯?"

Kiana bent over, retching violently beside the trash can. Mei looked at Kiana, then at Bai Hao, and her hand trembled, putting down her chopsticks on the spot.

"So, so disgusting."

"Impossible! Kevin clearly said it was delicious!"

Bai Hao didn't believe it. He picked up a piece of potato and put it into his mouth, then swallowed. Mei and Kiana watched the expressionless Bai Hao, especially Kiana, who stared intently at him.

Bai Hao stood up, walked to the window, and then plopped down on the sofa, curling his legs and hugging them with his arms.

Sunlight streamed in, casting a shadow over Bai Hao.

"It's really disgusting, it's really disgusting."

Mei looked at the dejected Bai Hao, then picked up a piece of beef and put it into her mouth. Enduring the strong saltiness, she walked over to Bai Hao and comforted him, "Bai Hao (classmate), actually, your cooking is quite delicious. Look, I quite like it."

Bai Hao looked at Mei, who was still chewing, and his heart trembled. He said, "Mei, you don't have to comfort me. Even Kiana found it disgusting after eating it, and I tried it too; it really is disgusting."

However, just as Bai Hao finished speaking, he saw Kiana pick up another piece and put it into her mouth: "Hmm... upon closer inspection, Bai Hao's cooking isn't bad, it's just that he seems to have added too much salt, it's a bit salty."

Kiana picked up a glass of water and chugged it down. It wasn't 'a bit' salty, it was extremely salty! Kiana had initially thrown up because she was stimulated by the saltiness.

"Really?"

Bai Hao walked back to the table and tasted it again. He hadn't noticed at first, but upon careful tasting, it really was salty.

But why would Kevin find it delicious? Thinking of this, Bai Hao suddenly remembered Mei.

Ah, Kevin had long become numb from eating Mei's 'dark cuisine' every day. So, as long as he ate something better than Mei's cooking, no matter how much better, he would find it delicious.

Bai Hao slapped his forehead and looked at Mei. Mei naturally noticed Bai Hao looking at her and asked, "What's wrong? Is there something on my face?"

She touched her face as she spoke. Bai Hao grabbed Mei's hand, and Mei's pretty face immediately flushed, but Bai Hao didn't care about that at all. He only had one thought now.

"Mei, could you... teach me how to cook?"

"Ah? Ah, y-yes, of course."

Mei stammered, while Bai Hao was overjoyed. As long as his cooking skills improved, he could cook for his companions.

After all, watching his companions happily eat his cooking was also a kind of enjoyment.
