Chapter 10: matchmaker has no future

To put it simply, it's a story about a man who, after taking money to break up, sees his ex-girlfriend gain popularity and become increasingly adorable, then suddenly regrets his decision.

The agent was well-prepared, even bringing the ex-boyfriend's payment agreement from a few years ago, nipping his excuses in the bud.

When her ex-boyfriend broke up with her back then, Kinoshita Yoko pleaded with him endlessly.

For a while, her ex-boyfriend kept recalling that scene, believing that Yoko must still deeply love him, so he wanted to secretly meet her to reconcile, without the company knowing.

Who knew that the "private meeting" he had waited so long for would end with him being knocked out by a man from Yoko's family before he even had a chance to say a word.

Immediately after, the agent arrived too…

Although the Ghost Infant was still just a baby, it understood the whole story.

Suddenly hit by the harsh reality, the entire Ghost Infant became listless.

Although it was a bit pathetic, Jiang Xia felt a sense of relief looking at it.

A Ghost Infant with shattered dreams was much easier to abduct than before.

It didn't matter if it was listless; once he took it home, signed the contract, and fed it some ghost mint, it would perk right back up.

With the most pressing matter resolved, Jiang Xia relaxed.

He leaned back on the sofa and stretched, only then realizing he was a little hungry.

The three people next to him were still in the middle of a melodrama, so it wasn't a good time to disturb them.

Jiang Xia looked at the coffee table, reached for a plate of oranges, and planned to eat something to tide him over.

Unexpectedly, Kinoshita Yoko noticed his action, walked over, and stopped him.

With eyes red from crying, Kinoshita Yoko found a pre-made bento box from the fridge, microwaved it, and brought it to Jiang Xia, saying, "Eat this instead; eating oranges on an empty stomach isn't good for your stomach."

She also handed him a pair of chopsticks.

Then she looked at the table, felt something was missing, wiped away her tears, and asked in a muffled voice, "Do you want a drink?"

Jiang Xia felt a bit embarrassed to accept, "No, thank you."

Kinoshita Yoko thought for a moment, still took a teacup, and poured him a cup of Oolong tea.

Only then did she lower her head and return to her agent's side, continuing to deal with her own affairs.

Jiang Xia looked at the steaming bento and the tea beside it, and sincerely gave Kinoshita Yoko a good person card.

Jiang Xia didn't need to worry about the stalkers 1 and 2; the agent was experienced and could handle it cleanly.

Finally, the ex-boyfriend was dragged away, muffled and whimpering, by the bodyguards.

While the bodyguards were subduing the ex-boyfriend, Jiang Xia took advantage of the chaos to pass by Kinoshita Yoko, snatched the Ghost Infant from her wrist, and twirled it in his hand a couple of times.

It still felt a bit prickly to the touch.

However, there was no longer that stinging sensation from last time, like "rolling around inside a syringe."

Perhaps the big drama just now made the Ghost Infant begin to feel confused about its goal, and its obsession had faded a lot.

After getting the ghost, Jiang Xia took advantage of the agent still being busy, grabbed his tool bag and the Ghost Infant, and quietly slipped away.

If he stayed, he might have to deal with the aftermath, which was too troublesome.

Ordinarily, Jiang Xia wouldn't mind staying longer.

But not today.

Today, he had to go back and play with the ghost first.

Jiang Xia felt like he had placed an online order and waited for several days, finally seeing the package arrive at his door.

Now he just really wanted to unbox it, very much so, not willing to wait even a second longer.

On the way home, the Ghost Infant kept struggling but was brutally suppressed.

Although its obsession had begun to waver, it still seemed unwilling to give up on matchmaking its parents.

Jiang Xia wasn't in a hurry either.

These past few days, while waiting for the stalkers to appear, he had also prepared Plan ABCD for abducting ghosts.

Jiang Xia returned home, carried the Ghost Infant into the basement, and fixed it in front of the TV.

The Ghost Infant kicked its legs, looking at the dark screen, and gradually had a bad premonition.

It warily scrambled up, only to see the human in front of the TV slowly turn its head and give it a benevolent smile.

Then Jiang Xia clicked, turning on the TV.

The TV began to play a video recording.

It was a compilation of news clips, all specifically found by Jiang Xia: love-triangle murder cases related to the entertainment industry.

—Some were about celebrities being assassinated by crazy fans after announcing their relationships.

And some were about ordinary otaku who shook hands with their goddess at a fan meeting, then were murdered out of jealousy by other fans…

There were already many cases in this world, and similar examples were easy to find.

After pressing play, Jiang Xia left the Ghost Fetus there and walked away with his hands in his pockets.

The next day, Jiang Xia leisurely came to the basement door, peeling an orange.

He saw the Ghost Infant sprawled in front of the TV, looking utterly devastated.

Hmm, Plan A seemed to be working.

Jiang Xia approached and subtly fanned the flames, "You want them all to die?"

The Ghost Infant shook its head vigorously, its eyes welling up with tears.

Jiang Xia was satisfied.

However, he still didn't release it; instead, he changed to another videotape.

This time, it was a bunch of pure romance dramas.

The two protagonists were sweet from beginning to end, and because it was a female-oriented show, the male leads in it were all exceptionally talented and devoted to the female lead.

For the Ghost Infant, between its father and mother, it clearly had more affection for Kinoshita Yoko.

Therefore, when thinking about problems, it was more inclined to side with Kinoshita Yoko's perspective.

The Ghost Infant was thus forced to watch dramas for several days.

Having gotten used to the god-like male leads in the dramas, and then thinking about its dad…

A few days later.

The Ghost Infant watched the finale with relish, excitedly clapping its small hands when the protagonists embraced, having completely abandoned the idea of bringing its biological parents together.

Jiang Xia turned off the TV, picked it up, placed it on the table, and made a timely invitation: "Young ghost, would you like to sign a contract with me?"

Of course, this question was just a polite formality.

At this point, even if it didn't want to sign, it had to.

The little Ghost Infant woke up from the sweet drama, shivered sensitively, and felt a threat.

But looking up at Jiang Xia's sincere face in front of it, it felt that it shouldn't be Jiang Xia's problem.

The Ghost Fetus vigilantly looked around for a while, finding nothing.

Thus, it increasingly felt that the environment was dangerous and it needed a protector to rely on.

Moreover, instinct told it that if no one sustained it, it wouldn't be able to live freely for too long.

The little Ghost Infant finally nodded in agreement.

Jiang Xia affectionately stroked its little head.

Many of a Spiritual Medium's skills could only be fully unlocked with a Ghost Fetus.

Jiang Xia thought about his bright future, and suddenly his back no longer ached, and his hands no longer hurt.

In addition, besides strengthening the Spiritual Medium himself, a Ghost Fetus also had a chance to awaken unique skills when signing a contract.

Such as teleportation, hardening, mind control…

Of course, there were also some bizarre abilities among them.

And according to the research of Spiritual Medium scientists in his previous life, these awakened abilities were often related to the ghost's own experiences and thoughts.

Jiang Xia looked down at the Ghost Fetus in front of him, recalling its obsession…

He had a feeling it wouldn't awaken any proper skills.

However, now was not the time to be picky.

It was good enough to have something.

Jiang Xia locked the basement door, returned to the Ghost Fetus, and unbuttoned his shirt.

A black pattern appeared on his chest, a very complex floral "Z" with many Hollow decorative patterns, appearing from nothing, looking eerie and mysterious.

Every Spiritual Medium, upon awakening, could choose their unique mark, and once determined, it could not be changed.

When he was young, Jiang Xia chose his tattoo mark under the influence of a movie, quickly drawing three cool sword marks: two horizontal and one diagonal.

But he didn't expect that when it was generated, the pattern was not the shiny silver scar he had imagined, but a gaudy letter.

Fortunately, this thing was usually hidden and unnoticeable; it only appeared on the skin like a tattoo when using a ghost.

Jiang Xia recalled his embarrassing past, sighed, found a needle, and pricked the tattoo mark.

A drop of blood slowly seeped out.

It didn't slide down the skin but strangely hovered at the tip of the needle.

Jiang Xia stretched out his hand, letting the blood drop onto the Ghost Fetus.

The two touched, making a "sizzle" sound like sweet roasting meat.

The blood drop moved as if alive.

After more than ten seconds, it gradually stopped on the Ghost Infant's neck, sinking into its body, turning into a Z-shaped mark exactly like Jiang Xia's tattoo but several sizes smaller.

After everything was over, the Ghost Infant raised its short little hands in confusion and touched its neck.

It didn't feel uncomfortable; instead, it instinctively realized that it seemed to have a long-term meal ticket.

Jiang Xia threw the needle away, buttoned his clothes, and watched it with eyes expecting a miracle.

A moment later, a piece of information appeared in his mind, about the Ghost Fetus's skill.

Jiang Xia read it carefully, his mood complex.

…The good news was that the Ghost Infant had indeed lit up a skill.

The other news, whether good or bad, was that this skill…

As expected, it was ridiculously absurd.

—The Ghost Infant could force one person to confess to another person nearby.
