Chapter 3: Little Tiller Expert
The night passed without a word.
The next day, Xu Yue woke up early, greeted his parents, and then went into town.
There were many styles of tillers, both electric and fuel-powered.
Xu Yue chose a model that could be used for both fields and paddies, and also allowed for changing the tilling depth.
“No delivery?”
Xu Yue frowned slightly.
“Young man, I’m only making a few dozen yuan off you,” the boss complained bitterly. “Your Taoyuan Village is too far, the gas money isn’t even enough. And the road is so bad, if the car breaks down, wouldn’t I lose a lot?”
“Alright then!”
Xu Yue sighed.
Not enough gas money was certainly an exaggeration.
Even with current rising gas prices.
However, a car with a low chassis really couldn’t get in.
“Ah, so do you still want it?” The boss looked at Xu Yue.
“Yes!” Xu Yue nodded and said, “But I’ll go find a car first. Otherwise, I’d have to push it back!”
It wasn’t to the extent of carrying it back.
The tiller had wheels.
The wheels could be removed, and the blade shaft could be attached.
The depth of tilling was determined by the blade shaft.
Xu Yue asked several shops, and this boss’s quote was the most sincere.
Other shops probably wouldn’t deliver either.
Find a car?
Xu Yue thought for a moment, then went straight to the used car market and browsed around.
Tricycles, pickup trucks, small trucks, and vans.
There was quite a selection.
Finally, Xu Yue spent less than twenty thousand to buy a used ‘divine vehicle’.
A new car?
Forget it for that bad road.
Xu Yue still had a lot of money, but there was no need to spend it like that.
“Did you rent a car?”
The boss who sold the tiller was a bit surprised to see Xu Yue get out of the driver’s seat.
Renting a car?
If he delivered the machine, wouldn’t he have to drive back to return the car?
Perhaps he needed the car for other things.
“I bought it,” Xu Yue said with a smile. “I figured I’d need a car often in the future, so I picked one up at the used car market.”
“Ah!” The boss was surprised, he sized up Xu Yue and said, “I thought you bought it for your family. You don’t look like someone who would stay in the countryside to farm.”
Xu Yue was already good-looking, came from a prestigious university, and had been a company executive, so his demeanor was naturally unique.
Without saying he stood out like a crane among chickens, he certainly didn’t seem to fit with farming.
“Is that so?” Xu Yue smiled, looked himself over, and said, “I just got back; I’ll gradually look the part later.”
With the boss’s help, the tiller was moved into the van.
Actually, he could have handled it alone.
Xu Yue then drove back to the village.
“Did you buy a tiller?” Li Xiurong asked when she saw it. “Why did you buy this?”
“Both the fields and paddies need to be tilled!” Xu Yue said. “It doesn’t cost much.”
These small agricultural machines, though not universal, are truly numerous now.
Numerous, so the price naturally doesn’t go up.
Xu Yue’s model was less than a thousand.
There were cheaper ones, and more expensive ones.
The cheaper ones weren't as suitable, and the expensive ones weren't necessary.
If tilling with machinery was useless for Cultivation, then he would still have to use a hoe.
He didn’t come back just for farming.
“Go! Go!”
Xu Yue was assembling the tiller, but Big Yellow came over to be affectionate and was shooed away by Xu Yue.
“Let’s try it!”
After Xu Yue finished assembling it, he immediately took it to the field to test it.
He wasn't testing how the machine worked, but rather whether he could Cultivate with it.
How much land could he turn over in a day by hoeing?
“Be careful!”
Li Xiurong spoke, while Xu Chengyang said nothing, watching with interest.
“Don’t worry!”
Xu Yue said with a smile.
After an afternoon of digging yesterday, his stamina and strength had both increased.
The crucial thing was that he had already condensed Primal Chaos Qi within his Dantian!
Of course, he was also familiar with the operation process of this thing.
“Bang bang.”
He pulled the starter, released the brake, and firmly gripped the two handles.
The tiller moved forward on its own!
It works!
The Yandi Hunyuan Fundamental Sutra began to circulate.
It really could be done this way!
He was proud of his cleverness.
He was proud of modern technology.
For the same area, Xu Yue found that more Primal Chaos Qi was converted than when using a hoe.
Xu Yue pondered.
Perhaps it was related to the tilling depth and the fineness of the soil.
Whatever the reason, for Xu Yue, it was a pleasant surprise.
“Can this thing also be used in paddy fields?”
Not long after, Xu Jiangming, who had returned for lunch, also came.
Many other villagers also came.
“It can be used. I’ve seen it in other villages.”
“This thing probably costs over a thousand yuan, right?”
“By the way, when did Xiao Yue come back?”
The villagers discussed in twos and threes.
However, during the busy farming season, they watched the novelty for a bit, then left.
Besides, it was already lunchtime.
In the afternoon, Xu Yue continued to till the land.
This tilling lasted for two days.
Xu Yue was in high spirits, feeling incredibly strong.
After finishing the family’s land, he then tilled the fields.
He was truly a little tiller expert, living up to his name.
“Your Third Uncle (paternal grandfather's youngest brother)’s family wants to ask you to take that tiller to till their land, how much do you charge?” Xu Chengyang looked at Xu Yue and asked.
These past two days, they had seen Xu Yue’s situation with their own eyes, but felt anxious in their hearts.
This child was probably going through something in Yanjing.
In the past, when did he ever have such an interest in farm work?
He was using this to exhaust his energy!
His father wanted to take over but was refused.
“Forget the money,” Xu Yue immediately said, “Let them give what they see fit.”
Xu Yue originally didn’t plan to charge money, but after thinking about it, he decided to charge.
A small favor is remembered, a large one is resented.
If he didn’t charge money, they might come to expect it as their due in the future.
And if he stopped tilling their land, they would resent him instead.
Such is human nature.
Xu Yue had no interest in testing human nature.
“That’s good too!”
Xu Chengyang nodded.
Working for money?
This was not common in the countryside.
Usually, it was reciprocal labor.
You help me for a day, and when your family has something, I’ll help you for a day.
A pack of cigarettes and two meals or one meal would settle it.
This time, talking about money was because the tiller was used.
Machines inevitably have some wear and tear.
It wasn’t payment for labor, but payment for the machine.
Third Uncle (paternal grandfather's youngest brother)’s land wasn’t much, and Xu Yue finished tilling it for him in one day.
He ate lunch there but didn’t go for dinner.
He didn’t smoke, and didn’t intend to smoke or ask for cigarettes, but they were forcefully stuffed into his pocket, said to be for his father.
His father, Xu Jiangming, smoked.
His grandfather also smoked.
However, his grandfather didn’t smoke paper cigarettes.
He was paid a hundred yuan for the work, and Xu Yue symbolically accepted fifty.
Half of that was for gas money.
He could have actually not accepted it.
Because before Third Uncle (paternal grandfather's youngest brother)’s land was even finished tilling, Xu Yue had already condensed Qi in his Dantian, officially entering the threshold of Cultivation.
Some Divine Abilities and spells could now be Cultivated.
Before, he had condensed Qi, but had not yet opened his Dantian, so he couldn’t utilize it.
Without being able to utilize it, he naturally couldn’t Cultivate various Supernatural Skills.
“The land is tilled; do you have any ideas now?” Xu Jiangming couldn’t help but ask.
His son used to work in an office in Yanjing.
And now?
He was tilling land at home, and seemed to be addicted to it.
His hands were for typing on a keyboard, not for gripping a tiller.
“I want to contract that peach orchard on the back mountain!” Xu Yue said. “Also, I plan to plant some chili peppers and other vegetables!”
“Contract the peach orchard on the back mountain?”
“Plant chili peppers and vegetables?”
Xu Jiangming and Li Xiurong were both a bit surprised.
Xu Chengyang, however, remained silent.
