Chapter 43: Bai Yanxi

Lu Xuan's lips curled into a playful smile as his gaze swept around the office, finally landing on the trembling female Student.

His voice was as gentle as an older brother from next door: “Student, has your application form been stamped?”

The female Student looked as if she had been granted a great pardon, nodding profusely, as if afraid that in the next second, she would be frozen into an ice sculpture by Bai Yanxi’s gaze. She grabbed the documents from the desk and rushed out of the office as if fleeing, even forgetting to say “thank you.”

Lu Xuan walked to the door and, with a “click,” locked it from the inside.

This completely cut off the hopes of the people waiting in line outside and also blocked their inquisitive gazes.

He leisurely walked to the desk, unceremoniously pulled out the chair opposite Bai Yanxi, and sat down, resting his arms on the table with a relaxed posture as if this were his living room.

“Director Bai, don’t be so angry. It should be my turn now, right?”

Lu Xuan spoke with a smiling face, but his tone, to Bai Yanxi’s ears, was full of provocation.

“Have you queued?” Bai Yanxi’s voice was icy, her gaze sharp enough to pierce through people’s hearts.

“I have my rules here. Get out and queue!” She bit down hard on every word, her unchallengeable assertiveness enough to make any ordinary Student’s legs go weak.

Lu Xuan, however, seemed oblivious to the oppressive aura, instead leaning back comfortably in his chair and speaking unhurriedly.

“Director Bai, why be so unwelcoming? I didn’t come here just to get a stamp today. I specifically brought something good and wanted to invite you to appraise it.”

As he spoke, Lu Xuan leaned slightly forward, making a gesture as if to pull out his phone from his pocket.

Bai Yanxi’s reaction was extremely quick; almost instinctively, her office chair slid sharply backward, creating a distance of half a meter from Lu Xuan, her eyes filled with wariness and disgust.

This subtle movement, however, caused a sense of control to quietly rise within Lu Xuan, and the smile on his lips deepened.

He enjoyed this cat-and-mouse game, especially watching these women, who were usually high and mighty, slowly stripped of their pretense, revealing their truest fear.

“Student, I don’t care who you are, or what you want to show me,”

Bai Yanxi’s voice grew even colder, with a hint of impatience, “There are too many people who try to pull strings and get close to me every day, and everyone wants to show me something good.”

“But here, I only recognize rules. Now, immediately, get out!” The last two words were almost squeezed through her teeth.

“Tsk, tsk,” Lu Xuan shook his head, a meaningful smile appearing on his face, “Director Bai, your temper is really like a stone in a latrine, both smelly and hard. But, I guarantee that after you see what I brought today, not only will you not be angry, you might even beg me.”

He slowly pulled out his phone, and with a gentle tap of his finger on the screen, a photo abruptly appeared.

It was a scanned page from a diary, with delicate handwriting, yet filled with almost pathological love and obsession.

“Director Bai, does the handwriting on this look familiar?”

Lu Xuan turned the phone screen towards Bai Yanxi, his tone carrying a hint of mockery.

The moment Bai Yanxi’s gaze touched the screen, her pupils sharply contracted!

That familiar handwriting, that secret suppressed deep within her heart, was as if a large invisible hand had fiercely pulled it out, exposing it in broad daylight!

“You!” She almost immediately reached out to snatch Lu Xuan’s phone, her movement swift and urgent, with a hint of hysterical madness.

Lu Xuan was prepared; with a flick of his wrist, he easily dodged her grab, still marveling aloud.

“Oh, Director Bai, you’re really quick to react, exactly like a few friends I met before, they all like to snatch phones first. Luckily, I’m agile, otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to keep this phone.”

Bai Yanxi’s chest heaved violently, and she bit her lower lip tightly, trying to suppress the tumultuous waves in her heart.

She took a deep breath, her eyes once again becoming cold and sharp, as if trying to see through Lu Xuan.

“Where did you get these photos? Did you secretly photograph my diary?”

Her voice trembled slightly with anger, but she still feigned composure, “I warn you, this is an invasion of privacy. I can call the police and have you arrested immediately! At that time, just for this one charge, you could spend several years in jail!”

She tried to deter Lu Xuan with law and threats, a tactic she often used and that had always been effective against those naive Students.

Upon hearing this, Lu Xuan, however, seemed to have heard the biggest joke in the world and couldn’t help but chuckle: “Call the police? Alright, Director Bai, I fully support you calling the police. However, before the police uncle arrives, shouldn’t you also consider whether the impact of the diary’s content being made public would be greater on you than me going to jail?”

He paused, looking at Bai Yanxi’s beautiful face, slightly distorted by anger, with a playful gaze, and slowly added: “After all, the story in this diary is even more exciting and thrilling than an 8 PM family drama. Things like ‘You are the only light that illuminates my life,’ and ‘For you, I am willing to be an enemy to the world,’ tsk, tsk, Director Bai, I didn’t expect you to have such a literary side.”

Bai Yanxi’s face instantly turned pale, but she still held on, letting out a cold laugh: “Hmph, who I like, who I admire, that’s my freedom! Even if everyone knows, what then? Is it wrong to love someone?”

“Oh?” Lu Xuan raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise.

“Director Bai is indeed a person of strong emotions, admirable, admirable! It seems you’re quite unapologetic about falling in love with your own maternal uncle.”

These words were like a bolt from the blue, striking Bai Yanxi’s head fiercely! She could no longer maintain her outward composure; the color drained from her face, leaving only a deathly pallor.

She thought Lu Xuan had only obtained the diary, but she never expected that he knew even the most core secret within it!

“You… what nonsense are you talking about!” Her voice carried a hint of imperceptible panic.

“Nonsense?” Lu Xuan’s smile grew even brighter, “Director Bai, should I read you some of the more explicit descriptions in the diary? For example, your fantasies with your ‘King of Soldiers’ uncle…”

“Shut up!” Bai Yanxi suddenly slammed the table, shouting sharply, trying to interrupt Lu Xuan’s words. But her eyes had already betrayed her inner turmoil.

Lu Xuan shrugged, with an expression that said, “See, I told you so.”

He knew that Bai Yanxi’s first psychological defense line had begun to loosen.

He leisurely scrolled through his phone screen, bringing up a few more photos. This time, it was no longer the diary, but rather several screenshots of surveillance videos and some document photos.

“Director Bai, since you think the diary content is harmless, then how do you explain these things?”

Lu Xuan pushed the phone towards Bai Yanxi again, “These Military Region deployment maps, these documents marked ‘Top Secret,’ and photos and videos of you intimately conversing with this hawk-nosed, blue-eyed international friend on the street…”

Bai Yanxi’s gaze was fixed on the phone screen. When she clearly saw the content of those photos, her body swayed violently, almost falling from the chair.

Her face could no longer be described as pale; it was a transparent, bloodless despair.

Her lips trembled; she wanted to speak in defense but found her throat as if something had blocked it, unable to utter a single word.

Each of those photos was like a sharp dagger, fiercely plunging into her heart!

Those things she thought she had done flawlessly, those secrets she thought no one would ever know, were now laid bare before a strange man!

“This… what is this… I… I don’t understand…”

Bai Yanxi’s voice was dry and hoarse. She tried to force out a calm expression, but the terror and despair in her eyes could not be hidden no matter what.

Her mind was racing, with only one thought: How could this evidence, this evidence that could ruin her forever, fall into the hands of an unknown university Student?

This is impossible! It must be fake! It’s Photoshopped! It’s forged!

Yes! It must be like this!

She took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down, and a cold glint reformed in her eyes.

Staring at Lu Xuan, she said word by word: “Stop being an alarmist! These things are all forged by you! You want to extort me with these things? I’m telling you, you’ve got the wrong idea!”
