Chapter 32: Behind Bars and Blood Prison (Part 2)

“Alternate cover! Establish a circular defense line! Protect the wounded and the students!” Li Zhenguo suppressed the shock and doubt in his heart, roaring hoarsely!

He no longer hesitated, commanding his team to contract their defense line, while simultaneously unleashing full firepower!

Wang Lei roared, smashing away a pouncing ghoul with his sniper rifle, and quickly retreated!

Zhao Xiaowen controlled the drone, releasing the last of its high-frequency sound waves in a concentrated burst, temporarily delaying the ghoul horde from the rear flank!

Zhou Xiaoyu dragged the injured students to a relatively safe corner, while injecting a powerful hemostatic agent into Ling Chen’s arm!

Ling Chen’s mouth twitched slightly, and he had no choice but to get up from the ground, pretending to have “finally regained some strength” as he manipulated three bats to join the battle.

Li Mingyu and Sun Qiang also reacted, standing back-to-back, their steel pole and metal fists wildly swinging, resisting the ghouls attacking from both front and back!

The battle instantly entered its most brutal, white-hot phase!

Gunshots, roars, metallic clashes, bone-shattering sounds, screams… blood dyed the ground red, and corpses piled up like mountains!

Every breath carried a heavy scent of blood!

Time passed minute by minute.

The number of ghouls seemed endless, but the army's ammunition was rapidly depleting!

Wang Lei’s sniper rifle ammunition was used up; he pulled out his military dagger and engaged in a bloody close-quarters combat with the pouncing ghouls!

Zhao Xiaowen’s drone ran out of energy and crashed to the ground!

Zhou Xiaoyu’s medical kit was also almost empty!

Li Mingyu and Sun Qiang were also at their limits!

The duration of Buli (Brute Force)’s ability had long exceeded its limit, and Li Mingyu felt all his muscles wailing, with every swing of his pole causing a tearing pain!

Sun Qiang’s metal skin was covered with deep claw marks, and some areas even showed tiny cracks!

His movements also became sluggish!

The defense line… was on the verge of collapse!

“Captain! Ammunition exhausted!”

“Interference failed!”

“Too many casualties! We need support!”

A sense of despair spread again!

“Block the windows! Block them with everything!” Li Zhenguo suddenly roared!

He saw that the number of ghouls pouring in seemed to be decreasing!

Not a retreat! But… a lack of follow-up?!

The roars outside the window were still deafening, but the speed of entry had clearly slowed down!

Were the ghouls crowding each other? Or… were they distracted by something?!

Naturally, Ling Chen had made his move.

Li Zhenguo obviously didn’t think that much; he only saw two words—

Opportunity!

“Sun Qiang! Li Mingyu! Hold the front! Everyone else! Follow me to block the windows!” Li Zhenguo erupted with his final decisiveness!

He no longer conserved ammunition!

His assault rifle wildly sprayed bullets towards the windows, suppressing the ghouls trying to pour in, while simultaneously rushing towards the pile of blasted tables and chairs debris!

“Anvil! Help me!” he roared!

Wang Lei roared, taking a ghoul’s bite head-on!

His metal dagger plunged fiercely into another ghoul’s eye socket!

He seized the opportunity to rush to Li Zhenguo’s side!

The two of them together lifted a heavy, overturned alloy lecture table!

They roared as they pushed it towards the shattered window!

“Help!” Li Mingyu saw hope, and Buli (Brute Force) was once again pushed to its limit!

His steel pole swept horizontally, forcing back the ghouls in front of him, and he also rushed towards the window!

Sun Qiang followed closely!

“Wu Tao! Bring people to move things! Everything that can be moved! Block it!” Li Mingyu roared!

The students were infected by this desperate burst of energy!

Fear was replaced by the instinct for survival!

The boys roared, picking up broken table legs, overturned cabinet doors, and even the corpses of their companions… rushing madly towards the shattered window!

“Block it! Block it!”

“Quick! Move it over!”

“Ah—!” A boy carrying a cabinet door was grabbed by a ghoul’s claws on his arm!

He screamed as he was dragged towards the window, but was immediately pulled back tightly by a classmate next to him!

Sun Qiang roared, rushing over, and his heavy metal fist smashed fiercely onto the ghoul’s head!

Chaos! Bloodshed! But filled with desperate madness!

After paying the price of several lives, the heavy alloy laboratory table was finally pushed to the window!

It blocked the largest gap!

Immediately after, more debris, tables, chairs, and even burning curtains (used to drive away light-fearing rat swarms) were frantically piled up!

“Roar! Roar!” The ghouls outside the window crashed against it furiously!

The lab table and the pile of debris shook violently!

But for now… it was blocked!

“Flank! Clear out the ghouls on the flank!” Li Zhenguo gasped, turning his gun!

Bullets accurately shot towards the ghoul horde pouring out from the classroom on the rear flank!

The pressure suddenly decreased!

The crisis of being attacked from both sides was temporarily relieved!

Although the remaining ghouls were still fierce, without a continuous supply, their numbers were rapidly decreasing!

“Kill them all!” Li Mingyu was covered in blood, like a madman!

Buli (Brute Force) was pushed to its limit!

Every swing of his steel pole carried an aura of mutual destruction!

Sun Qiang was like a human tank, his metal body enduring attacks, his heavy fists smashing ghoul heads!

The soldiers also unleashed their last bit of ferocity!

Wang Lei’s dagger was like a venomous snake, precisely cutting the ghouls’ throats!

Zhao Xiaowen picked up a fire axe from the ground and screamed as she chopped!

Zhou Xiaoyu even picked up an iron rod and fiercely smashed it at a ghoul approaching the wounded!

A brutal cleanup!

Every inch of the ground was soaked with blood!

Ghoul limbs and human corpses were mixed together!

When the last ghoul rushing out from the flank classroom had its head smashed by Li Mingyu’s pole, only heavy breathing and suppressed groans remained in the corridor.

Dead silence.

The strong smell of blood was nauseating.

The shattered window was tightly blocked by debris, but the frantic crashing and roaring of ghouls still came from outside!

They hadn't retreated! They were still outside! They could break in again at any moment!

“Count the numbers… treat the wounded… reinforce… all doors and windows…” Li Zhenguo slid down to the ground, leaning against the wall, breathing heavily, his voice hoarse like sandpaper rubbing.

His left shoulder, where Li Mingyu had injured him, throbbed with excruciating pain, and blood soaked his combat uniform.

The soldiers tiredly carried out orders.

Wang Lei’s left arm had been bitten by a ghoul, deep to the bone; before they came, they had all been injected with a newly developed basic anti-infection agent, and Zhou Xiaoyu was just urgently treating the wound.

Zhao Xiaowen was pale, sitting in a corner hugging her knees.

Zhou Xiaoyu’s own arm was cut by glass, but she couldn’t attend to it, busy treating the wounded, distributing basic anti-infection agents to her classmates like bottles.

Most of the students were slumped on the ground, their eyes hollow, their faces covered in blood and tears.

It was the relief of surviving a disaster.

Li Mingyu leaned on his steel pole, breathing heavily.

The agonizing pain of overdrawing Buli (Brute Force) swept through his entire body like a tide, his muscles trembling uncontrollably.

He looked at the corpses on the ground, at the familiar and unfamiliar faces whose eyes were closed forever, at his brother, whom he had injured and who was now leaning against the wall, exhausted… immense pain and regret almost engulfed him.

He walked in front of Li Zhenguo, opened his mouth, but couldn’t say anything.

Li Zhenguo looked up, at his brother’s face covered in blood and tear stains, at the deep pain and confusion in his eyes.

He was silent for a few seconds, then extended his uninjured right hand and heavily patted Li Mingyu’s arm.

There was no blame, no explanation.

Only a heavy, soldier’s entrustment.

“Hold this place… survive.” he said in a low voice, his tone undeniably resolute.

Li Mingyu nodded forcefully, tears welling up again.

Li Zhenguo struggled to stand, looking at Ling Chen, who was still “unconscious” in Chen Xue’s arms.

Chen Xue was wiping the blood from his mouth with a clean cloth, her face full of worry.

Li Zhenguo’s gaze was extremely complex.

Shock, gratitude, confusion… and a hint of deep apprehension.

That precise throw… was it really a coincidence?

This young man… in such a chaotic and bloody battlefield, could he “just happen” to save his life?

He walked to Ling Chen’s side and squatted down.

Zhou Xiaoyu was checking Ling Chen’s injuries.

“How is he?” Li Zhenguo asked in a deep voice.

“Excessive blood loss, multiple soft tissue contusions, slight bone fracture in the left arm… but it’s very strange,”

Zhou Xiaoyu frowned slightly, her voice tinged with confusion, “His vital signs… are much more stable than they appear.

And… his throw of the table leg just now, the force and angle were extremely precise, not something a severely injured person could do…”

Li Zhenguo’s sharp gaze swept over Ling Chen’s pale face, finally resting on his slightly rising and falling chest.

He reached out, seemingly wanting to probe something, but in the end, he just gently patted Chen Xue’s shoulder.

“Take good care of him.”

He stood up, saying no more.

Now was not the time for deep investigation.

They were trapped here.

Outside was an endless tide of ghouls.

Ammunition was depleted, and the wounded were numerous.

The only passage was blocked by ghouls.

They needed… a miracle.

Or… someone who could create a miracle.

Li Zhenguo’s gaze swept over Ling Chen again, then turned towards the direction of the window, which was blocked by debris and still emitted dull thudding sounds, his eyes profound.
