Chapter 7: Things have changed

“Slaying dragons? Do you have a grudge against dragons?”

“All of humanity has a grudge against dragons, not just us. You’ll learn more about this in the Dragon Lineage class once you enter the College,” Xie Yuanqing said, rattling on. “Dragon slaying has been going on for thousands of years in places you don’t know about. Beneath the history you’re familiar with, there’s another history, one filled with the presence of dragons. The reason for signing the non-disclosure agreement is this: if ordinary people knew about the existence of dragons, the accidents that could result are unimaginable, but they are certainly things we don’t wish to see. Those Mixed-blood families bore the mission of dragon slaying. They constantly cultivated descendants skilled in combat, sorcery, magic, and alchemy, sending them to the dragon-slaying battlefield, repeatedly burying the dragons’ efforts at revival, until today, Kassel College inherited their legacy.”

“Leg… legacy?”

“Yes, because most of those Mixed-blood families have already died out, and we also realized the backwardness of family inheritance. In the new era, only by relying on such an educational mechanism can we continuously attract dragon-slaying talent and pass on the will to slay dragons.”

“That sounds grand,” Lu Mingfei said softly. “However, Kassel College sounds like a university. We’re only in our second year of high school now, so we don’t need to enter Kassel College yet, do we?”

“Yes, it’s because you two seem to have awakened your dragon bloodline, and I was afraid something might happen to you, so I contacted you early,” Xie Yuanqing said, telling the truth, but only half of it. “As for your later question, don’t worry. We have established Preparatory Classes in every major country. If you are willing, we can send someone to discuss with your school tomorrow and transfer you to the Preparatory Class in the Capital.”

Hearing this, Lu Mingfei looked at Zero, who had been silently drinking hot cocoa the whole time, wanting to hear what Zero planned to do.

“You make the decision yourself, I’ll go with you,” Zero only said this one sentence.

Lu Mingfei thought for a moment, “Preparatory Class, can I just go for one semester?”

Xie Yuanqing was stunned when he heard this. “Are you planning to go in the last semester of your third year of high school?”

“No, I plan to go in the second semester of my second year of high school, which is the first half of next year, study there for one semester, and then return to Shilan Middle School when I’m in my third year of high school,” Lu Mingfei looked at Xie Yuanqing. “Anyway, the Preparatory Class only teaches some simple dragon knowledge and combat skills. There should be more comprehensive teaching once I get to Kassel College.”

“This seems a bit out of line with the rules; there’s never been anything like this,” Xie Yuanqing said, a bit troubled. “How about this, I’ll ask for instructions from above to see if it’s possible. Give me your contact information, and I’ll contact you then.”

“Alright, thanks!” Lu Mingfei smiled and told Xie Yuanqing his phone number. “That’s it then, we have to go too. We still have class, if we don’t leave now, we’ll be late.” Lu Mingfei drank the rest of his black tea latte in one gulp, stood up, and left.

As expected, both of them were late. They chatted with Xie Yuanqing for a bit too long, but what Lu Mingfei didn’t expect was that the teacher didn’t make things difficult for Zero, only making Lu Mingfei stand and listen for one class. He probably saw that Zero was a foreign girl and had just transferred, so he didn’t want to make things difficult for her.

Xu Yanyan and Xu Miaomiao in front cast schadenfreude glances, Lu Mingfei felt a bit helpless, but didn’t say anything, and just stood there for one class.

——

“Principal, I have already contacted Lu Mingfei and them. Unexpectedly, they very easily accepted that there are creatures like dragons in the world, and they have no aversion to dragon slaying. Also, I told them about the Preparatory Class, and they are willing to go, it’s just… they plan to go for one semester in the second half of their second year of high school and return to Shilan Middle School in their third year of high school. This is a bit against the rules, so I came to ask for your instruction,” Xie Yuanqing said to the Principal on the other end of the phone.

“Oh, I see. You did very well. Don’t be surprised, geniuses are always different,” Angers said with a chuckle. “As for the Preparatory Class matter, when you contact Lu Mingfei later, tell him it’s possible, but there’s a condition: they need to carry out missions issued by the College in their third year of high school.”

“Ah? This… this isn’t according to the rules, is it? The Preparatory Class matter is fine, but wouldn’t it be too early to carry out missions in their third year of high school?” Xie Yuanqing suddenly realized that he was actually telling the Principal what to do, and quickly apologized, “Sorry, Principal, I spoke out of turn. Your decision must have your reasons.”

“Geniuses always have some privileges. They can do things others can’t, so they naturally should enjoy rights others don’t. As for you saying it’s too early to carry out missions in their third year of high school, if I remember correctly, you should be a C-rank Mixed-blood, right?” The Principal ignored Xie Yuanqing’s apology, or rather, he didn’t care at all.

“Yes, Principal,” Xie Yuanqing was very surprised that the Principal remembered his bloodline as a C-rank agent.

“Then do you know Lu Mingfei and Zero’s bloodlines? Zero is an A-rank Mixed-blood, and Lu Mingfei is even an S-rank Mixed-blood. Don’t look at geniuses through the eyes of normal people.”

“What, A-rank and S-rank?!!!” Xie Yuanqing was too shocked to speak. That handsome boy and that beautiful Russian girl actually had such high bloodlines. S-rank, that’s the same level as the Principal!

“Just keep it to yourself. Although this will be announced sooner or later, I don’t want more people to know about this before next year.”

“Okay, Principal, I will absolutely not tell anyone,” Xie Yuanqing said with a serious expression. The Principal had told him this news, so he naturally wouldn’t betray the Principal’s trust.

In the afternoon, Lu Mingfei received a text message. There was no sender name, so it should be from Xie Yuanqing. Lu Mingfei opened the message:

“Student Lu Mingfei, your request has been approved by the higher-ups, but there’s a condition: you need to complete the missions issued by the school in your third year of high school. Don’t worry about school attendance, the College will handle it for you. As for what missions you’ll complete, I don’t know either, but I imagine they won’t be too difficult.”

“Okay, no problem,” Lu Mingfei edited a message and replied. He was a bit surprised. The Principal agreeing to his request was within his expectations, but for him to take on missions in his third year of high school was very unexpected. “It must be that my rebirth caused some changes. This means many things might become different. I can’t just predict future events based on what happened in my previous life, otherwise, I might suffer greatly.”

Lu Mingfei already understood in his heart that the future’s direction had changed because of his rebirth, and he couldn’t rely too much on his past life’s memories. However, the general direction hadn’t changed yet, and he needed to prepare in advance.
