Chapter 17 Hybrid
Airplanes were initially used only for high-altitude reconnaissance, and pilots fought each other by pulling out pistols from their clothes. Some skilled pilots would even bring rifles directly on board.
But at the beginning of this year, that changed. The French began to put machine guns on their planes, and the planes with machine guns were invincible in the sky until they were shot down by anti-aircraft guns.
Later, the Prussians captured the plane and took the French modifications a step further to create the world's first true fighter.
At this point, the form of air combat has completely changed.
In the sky, the battle between the two sides became more and more intense, and the sound of machine gun fire was endless. Lu Mingfei and Kaczynski stared at the sky, and every flash and explosion touched their hearts.
Suddenly, a plane began to smoke, swayed and lost balance, and finally exploded in the air. The explosion was as brilliant as fireworks. Kaczynski looked at Lu Mingfei with an inexplicable look in his eyes.
"Looks like you win," he said, with a hint of helplessness in his voice.
Lu Mingfei nodded, but did not show any joy on his face.
"What do you want to ask?" Kaczynski suddenly asked, breaking the silence.
Lu Mingfei pondered for a while, then asked: "What's wrong with your eyes?"
"Oh? I thought you were going to ask which family I came from?" Kaczynski looked at Lu Mingfei curiously.
"Which family? What do you mean? Is this hereditary?"
Lu Mingfei was a little confused about what Kaczynski meant. Could it be that the little boy he saw in the toilet before traveling through time was Kaczynski’s descendant?
"It seems that you really don't know anything. I thought you were a young master from a large mixed-race family who ran out to experience the life of ordinary people." Kaczynski looked at Lu Mingfei as if he were looking at a strange animal.
"Mixed-blood family? Can you tell me more about it?" Lu Mingfei was becoming increasingly confused by Kaczynski's words.
"Look into my eyes." After saying that, Kaczynski closed his eyes. When he opened them again, his originally dark blue pupils had turned into light gold, and seemed to emit a faint light. The light gold pupils carried an aura of oppression that made people dare not look directly at them.
"This is the symbol of mixed-race people, golden eyes." Kaczynski said seriously.
"What is a hybrid? A hybrid of what and what?"
"Hybrids are a mix of humans and dragons. They are stronger than normal humans and can even use a special ability called Word Spirits."
"Dragon?! Are there really dragons in this world?" Lu Mingfei found it a little unbelievable, but then he thought, he could even encounter such a bizarre thing as time travel, so it didn't seem impossible that there were dragons in this world.
"Yes, in fact, in ancient times, the dragon race was the ruler of the earth, and humans were just their slaves. However, a very serious civil strife broke out within the dragon race, and most of the dragons killed each other. Only then did humans have the opportunity to take over the position of the dragon race."
"Could it be a dinosaur? What else is a word spirit?" Lu Mingfei imagined the Tyrannosaurus Rex whipping people with a whip and spewing fire from its mouth. "It's the evil dragon with wings in myths and legends. As for word spirits, there are many types, such as fire-breathing and water-spitting. My word spirit is a sickle-weasel, which can manipulate the wind to enhance my perception and hearing."
"But this ability is not very useful here. We are hiding in bunkers and being bombarded by shells every day on the front line. We can't even see the French. The most we can do is sense when a shell is coming and run two steps ahead of others."
"Don't tell anyone else what I said to you today. According to the Abrahamic Covenant, we can't spread the matter of mixed-bloods. If those hypocritical bastards find out, they will hunt us down." Kaczynski said after taking a deep puff of cigarette.
“If ordinary people can’t know, then why did you tell me?” Kaczynski’s words almost shattered Lu Mingfei’s worldview.
"Do you think you are an ordinary person..." Kaczynski looked at Lu Mingfei meaningfully, then took out a small mirror from his pocket and handed it to him.
Lu Mingfei took the mirror and looked at himself in the mirror. His originally brown pupils turned into the same light gold as Kaczynski's.
"Your bloodline has probably just awakened, and you can't control the opening of your golden eyes freely. You must have been stimulated by the previous bombardment."
"Are there many hybrids like us? Did they all go to the battlefield?" Lu Mingfei put down the mirror and took a deep breath. He needed to digest this information. How did they suddenly become hybrid animals? Isn't there reproductive isolation between dragons and humans?
"Not many. Half-bloods have dragon blood in their bodies, so they feel out of tune with the people around them. This thing is called blood sorrow. Only by staying with half-bloods like themselves can this feeling be eliminated. In order to maintain the purity of their bloodline, half-bloods are more willing to marry half-bloods."
"The vast majority of mixed-bloods in Europe gather together to form mixed-blood families. These mixed-blood families intermarry and maintain exchanges of interests. Mixed-bloods have dragon blood and words in their bodies, so it is easier for them to control power than ordinary people."
"In order to consolidate their power and prevent ordinary people from knowing that they are actually ruled by a group of monsters, they signed something called the Abraham Contract. If anyone tells ordinary people about the hybrids, they will be hunted down by them."
"As for the mixed-bloods on the battlefield, there are even fewer of them. Those mixed-blood families control a lot of wealth and have a good life every day. How could they send people to die on the battlefield? The present is different from a hundred years ago. Even if mixed-bloods are stronger than ordinary people, they cannot withstand the bombardment of artillery."
"There are probably only a few half-bloods on the battlefield like you who have just awakened and know nothing, or who have secretly gone to the battlefield without telling their families. Anyway, you are the only half-blood I have seen on the battlefield so far."
"Aren't they afraid that their country will lose the war?"
"As long as the mixed-blood families on both sides do not send mixed-bloods to the battlefield, then this will be a war between ordinary people. The lives of ordinary people have nothing to do with them. Moreover, the war can also divert the internal conflicts of the country, which makes it easier for them to control power."
"We are all relatives. It's not good to fight each other. We might as well make money together."
Lu Mingfei was stunned.
"Then how do you know so much, Kaczynski? Did you also sneak out from some big family?"
"Me? My family was indeed a mixed-blood family, but we fell into poverty a long time ago. For several generations, our bloodline was so thin that we couldn't even light up our golden eyes. We were no different from ordinary people."
I'm sorry, I've been too tired at work recently, so there is only one chapter today, and I will update it as normal tomorrow. In order to make up the 4,000 words a day, I may post a duplicate chapter in the evening. You don't need to read it then, so please forgive me.
