Chapter 1: Crossing

“Hiss, it hurts so much.” As waves of sharp pain came, Li Weidong slowly opened his eyes, and what met his gaze was an old-fashioned thatched roof.

He turned his head and looked around, finding walls made of adobe and old-fashioned door frames.

Li Weidong’s heart was filled with doubt; shouldn't he be in the Hospital? How did he suddenly appear here?

Li Weidong only remembered that he was walking on the way to work at his company as usual, and everything seemed so calm and ordinary.

However, at this seemingly ordinary moment, a sudden danger quietly descended.

He inadvertently looked up and found that not far ahead, on a building, a flowerpot was about to fall from a height.

And at this moment, a little girl of seven or eight years old was about to pass by there downstairs.

Without the slightest hesitation, he quickly ran forward.

Finally, when the flowerpot fell, he reached the little girl’s side.

Without time to think, he spread his arms and tightly embraced the little girl.

Just then, with a loud “bang,” the flowerpot heavily smashed onto his head.

Fragments splattered everywhere, and along with the fragments, Li Weidong's blood splattered too.

He didn't know what happened after that.

Shouldn't I have been sent to the Hospital? How could I be here? Just as Li Weidong couldn't figure it out, a memory that didn't belong to him flooded into his mind.

Immediately, he only felt as if his head had been stuffed with a basketball.

Li Weidong painfully clutched his head, rolling on the bed, emitting groans of agony.

After a while, the pain gradually subsided, and he finally sorted out these unfamiliar memories.

It turned out that the original owner of this body was also named Li Weidong. His father, Li Dahe, and mother, Liu Xiaoli, were honest and hardworking farmers. There was also an older brother and a younger sister in the family.

His elder brother, Li Weiguo, was 20 years old this year, diligent and capable, and had long since followed the Village carpenter to learn his craft.

His younger sister, Li Weihong, was well-behaved and sensible. Although she was not old, only 6 years old, she could also help the family with some simple chores.

After receiving these memories, Li Weidong immediately envied the family affection of the original owner's family.

He was a lonely person in his original world; his father passed away early, and he had not experienced such strong family warmth for a long time.

Now that he occupied this body, he must cherish this family affection and take good care of these people for the original owner.

Thinking of this, he suddenly felt a wave of lightness throughout his body, as if his soul had unlocked a certain shackles and completely merged with the body.

He knew that this might be the original owner's obsession, which only completely dissipated after he decided to take good care of the family.

Li Weidong propped himself up with his hands, slowly leaned against the wall, and began to sort through the memories in his mind.

Through these memories, he learned that he still had grandparents.

His grandparents had 5 children in total: his eldest uncle Li Dajiang, his Aunt Li Aizhen, his father Li Dahe, his uncle Li Dahe, and his Aunt Li Aimei.

His eldest uncle had a steady personality and was the Village Head, his uncle worked in the City and rarely came home, and his two Aunts were both married, living relatively stable lives.

Li Weidong was thinking about these relatives, filled with emotion.

Just then, his younger sister, Li Weihong, skipped into the room. Seeing Li Weidong leaning against the wall, she said, “Second Brother, you’re awake?”

Li Weidong looked at his younger sister and smiled, nodding, “Yes, little sister, I’m much better.”

Li Weidong then remembered the reason for his injury. After graduating from junior high, he recognized Li Laoliu, the Village hunter, as his master, and had been learning hunting techniques from his master for the past two years.

Yesterday, while hunting in the mountains, he had a decent harvest, but on the way down, his foot slipped, and he hit his head on a tree after falling.

After that, it was obvious that his master, Li Laoliu, carried him down the mountain. After a night, the original owner didn't make it and passed away, and then he transmigrated and possessed his body.

Although he knew, Li Weidong still asked his younger sister, “How did I get back last night?”

Li Weihong also said, “Uncle Laoliu carried you back last night. You had a really big bump on your head then.”

Li Weidong frowned, imagining the scene, and his heart was filled with gratitude towards his master, Li Laoliu.

He touched his head, which was still throbbing faintly.

“Did Master say anything?” Li Weidong asked again.

Li Weihong tilted her head and thought, “Uncle Laoliu said you were too careless and told you to be careful in the future.”

Li Weidong smiled wryly and nodded, “I remember.”

Li Weidong then asked, “What about Mom and Dad? What are they doing now?”

Li Weihong said, “Mom and Dad both went to the fields. They told me to watch over you at home.”

After speaking, she seemed to remember something else and said, “Second Brother, wait, I’ll bring you food.” With that, she hurried towards the kitchen.

In less than 2 minutes, she came back with a bowl of corn paste and handed it to Li Weidong.

Before he could speak, Li Weihong ran out again, but in half a minute, she ran back in with a piece of multi-grain pancake.

“Big Brother, eat quickly, you must be hungry.” Li Weihong placed the multi-grain pancake in front of Li Weidong.

Li Weidong took the multi-grain pancake and looked at his sensible younger sister, feeling a warmth in his heart.

He took a sip of the corn paste and a bite of the multi-grain pancake. Although the taste wasn't great, he felt incredibly satisfied at that moment.

“Little sister, have you eaten?” Li Weidong asked.

Li Weihong nodded, “I’ve eaten. Second Brother, you eat quickly.” After saying that, she even swallowed her saliva.

Li Weidong felt a pang of sadness in his heart when he saw his younger sister's small gesture.

He knew that their family's conditions were poor and food was scarce, so his younger sister definitely hadn't eaten enough.

“Little sister, come, let’s eat together.” Li Weidong broke off half of the multi-grain pancake and handed it to Li Weihong.

“Second Brother, I really have eaten, you eat.” Li Weihong waved her hands repeatedly.

“Be obedient, let’s eat together, us siblings.” Li Weidong insisted.

Li Weihong hesitated for a moment, then took the half piece of multi-grain pancake and ate it in small bites.

Li Weidong looked at his younger sister and secretly vowed to make sure his family lived a good life, no longer worrying about food and drink.

“Little sister, Second Brother will definitely buy you lots of delicious food in the future.” Li Weidong said gently.

Li Weihong looked up, her eyes sparkling, “Second Brother, I believe you.”

Just then, the sounds of playmates playing outside came, and a hint of longing appeared in Li Weihong's eyes, but she still sat obediently beside Li Weidong.

“Little sister, go play, Second Brother can manage by himself.” Li Weidong said.

Li Weihong hesitated, looked at her second brother who seemed fine, then nodded and ran out.

Li Weidong looked at his younger sister's cheerful back, his heart filled with emotion.

He knew that since he occupied this body, he had to take on the responsibility of taking care of the family.

Just as he was thinking, his younger sister, Li Weihong, ran back into the room, her little face flushed.

“Second Brother, I’ll play for a bit and then come back to accompany you.” Li Weihong said.

Li Weidong smiled and nodded, “Okay, little sister, go play.”
