Chapter 35: Save where you can, spend where you can

Lin Yang saw Hu Qian’s shy expression, the corners of his mouth subtly curved upwards, and a hint of imperceptible tenderness flashed in his eyes.

He never expected that this strong woman, who was so decisive in the workplace, would also have a shy side.

“We’ve got the discount, now let’s go in and pick out gifts.”

Lin Yang’s voice was gentle and steady, breaking the brief silence.

The two walked side by side into the gold store, where the bright lights illuminated the entire room in a golden glow.

A female attendant in a neat uniform, with a professional smile on her face, quickly came forward and politely said:

“Welcome, both of you.

Our gold jewelry is the best in all of Xing City; we have every style imaginable, so please feel free to browse.”

Lin Yang nodded slightly, his gaze beginning to scan the display counters in the store.

The counters were filled with various gold ornaments: necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and rings were all available, exquisitely crafted and varied in design, each one radiating an alluring luster.

There were also several counters displaying jade ornaments; the warm jade glowed softly under the lights, some carved into exquisite flowers, birds, fish, and insects, others polished into smooth peace buckles, with a wide variety of styles that were dazzling.

“Sir, are you buying a gift for your girlfriend?”

The attendant saw Lin Yang and Hu Qian together, and with an appropriate smile, she asked curiously.

Lin Yang quickly waved his hand and explained:

“You’ve misunderstood; I want to buy some gold and jade items for my mother.

Do you have any recommendations?”

“Yes, please come this way.”

The attendant enthusiastically led Lin Yang to a corner of a counter, where various beautifully designed gold bracelets were neatly arranged.

While pointing at the displayed bracelets, she introduced them in detail:

“These styles are relatively conservative and suitable for gifting to elders.”

Lin Yang’s gaze swept over each of these gold bracelets, carefully checking the price tags.

He saw that the prices were generally related to the size, with small ones costing over ten thousand and large ones four to five tens of thousands.

“Sir, which one do you like? I’ll take it out for you to see.”

The attendant’s voice was full of anticipation, her eyes revealing a desire to close the deal.

“Wrap them all up.”

Lin Yang’s tone was very decisive, without the slightest hesitation.

He thought to himself, these gold ornaments just have an extra labor fee compared to gold bars; buying them for wearing actually won't result in a loss, it's equivalent to financial management.

With so many styles, it was really hard to choose, so he might as well buy them all.

The attendant’s eyes instantly widened, her originally bright pupils now filled only with an expression of disbelief, as if Lin Yang’s words were a bombshell that had exploded in her mind.

Her breathing suddenly stopped, and she stood frozen in place as if under a spell.

The tray she was using to display the bracelets almost fell, and she instinctively gripped it tightly, her knuckles turning white from the effort.

“Si-Sir, are you saying, wrap all these gold bracelets?”

The attendant stammered, confirming again, her voice trembling with shock.

She couldn’t believe that this seemingly ordinary young man was so wealthy, buying a dozen gold bracelets at once.

This was no small sum, and in her previous work experience, such generous customers were truly rare.

The other attendants in the shop cast envious glances, their eyes filled with admiration and envy.

One young female attendant, her eyes sparkling like stars, couldn't help but fantasize:

“How wonderful it would be if he were my boyfriend! So handsome and so rich, casually spending hundreds of thousands or even millions.

Following him, I could definitely live a good life, and I could be pampered like a princess.”

Her cheeks flushed slightly, as if she was already immersed in this beautiful fantasy, almost misplacing the jewelry she was organizing in her hands.

Another slightly older attendant sighed softly, remarking:

“This young man is so capable at such a young age, it’s truly admirable.

Look at him, then look at my ordinary boyfriend—why is the gap so huge?”

She shook her head while I couldn't help but look at Lin Yang again, her eyes filled with admiration and regret.

Several other attendants gathered together, discussing in low voices.

“He must be a big boss of some company; otherwise, how could he be so generous, buying so many gold bracelets at once?”

“Maybe he’s a rich second-generation; his family is wealthy, and he doesn’t care about this money at all.”

Their words were full of speculation about Lin Yang’s identity and astonishment at his wealth, mixed with a hint of jealousy.

These envious glances and whispered discussions spread quietly through the gold store like an invisible wind, making the entire shop’s atmosphere somewhat subtle.

Lin Yang, however, seemed oblivious to these gazes; he was focused on discussing with Hu Qian which other gifts to choose next.

Hu Qian suddenly asked:

“Can these ornaments be discounted together?”

The attendant quickly nodded, her face beaming with smiles, and enthusiastically replied:

“Of course, you can rest assured that any purchases made in the store today will receive an 88% discount, with no upper limit.

You two are the champions of today’s Hugging Contest; this is a special benefit from our store!”

As the attendant spoke, she carefully and skillfully placed the selected gold bracelets into exquisite packaging boxes, her movements gentle and practiced.

Hu Qian nodded in satisfaction and said with a smile:

“Then wait, I’ll pick out one more item.”

With that, she took elegant steps, slowly pacing by the counter, her gaze moving among the dazzling array of ornaments, carefully selecting.

Lin Yang looked at Hu Qian, who was seriously choosing ornaments, and couldn’t help but laugh:

“Manager Hu, with such a high income, you still care about this small discount.”

Hu Qian turned her head, glanced at Lin Yang, and replied:

“Spend when you should, save when you should; our money doesn’t just come out of nowhere.”

After hearing this, Lin Yang couldn’t help but feel a bit more admiration for Hu Qian.

He nodded vigorously, agreeing sincerely:

“You’re absolutely right; having money doesn’t mean being a fool.”

While the attendant was wrapping up the gold bracelets for Lin Yang, a shrewd older sister directly put down her work and took out two bottles of mineral water from under the counter, handing them to Lin Yang and Hu Qian.

“Sir, Madam, please have some water first.

Jadeite and jade are also quite suitable as gifts for elders; would you like to take a look?”

“Alright.”

It seemed the gold and jade counters in the store were separate; the older sister would assist with selecting jade.

“Sir, how old is your mother? What do you think of this piece of excellent mutton-fat jade?”

The attendant sister recommended to Lin Yang:

“This piece of mutton-fat jade is the treasure of our store.”

Lin Yang looked at the price—good heavens, a small jade Buddha was priced at eight hundred eighty thousand.

Even the dozen or so gold bracelets from earlier combined were only about this price.

This attendant must have seen that he didn’t bat an eye when buying a dozen gold bracelets just now, which is why she immediately brought out the store’s treasure.
