Chapter 298: Strange Place

His eyes met with pitch black.

The sound of waves crashing against the rocks echoed in his ears.

Fang Xin sat up with a jolt.

He looked around.

His perception net spread out, and he discovered he was lying on rocks by the sea.

On one side was the ocean, and on the other was a deserted city. The city had been abandoned for who knows how long, its building walls covered in unknown vine-like plants.

He checked the time; it was night. He took out his zhilian device to pinpoint his current location, only to find that the zhilian device had uncharacteristically lost its original function and seemed to be completely disconnected from the outside world.

Fang Xin took out his Panlong Spear from his spatial ring.

This abandoned city exuded an eerie aura everywhere.

Fang Xin's perception net spread out, gradually extending towards the abandoned city.

Suddenly.

Fang Xin sensed a living creature. The creature seemed to sense Fang Xin too, and immediately displayed a very strong aggressive aura, as if it wanted to chase after Fang Xin's presence. Fang Xin quickly retracted his perception net.

His gaze shifted. Visibility in this place was less than five meters; anything further was completely shrouded in darkness and utterly indistinct.

"Where the hell did this place bring me?" Fang Xin looked around, puzzled.

He released several fierce beasts and even Soul Generals to guard the surroundings.

In the dark, this place was full of unknowns. Fang Xin decided to play it safe and wait until dawn.

But from the current environment, this place seemed somewhat similar to the God and Demon Ruins.

It wasn't just Fang Xin who had this thought; Situ Shenshu looked around, seemingly having the same idea.

"My Lord, I always feel that there's a terrifying presence hidden in this place. This aura feels somewhat familiar."

Fang Xin's eyes lit up at his words. "Familiar? Does that mean you can introduce him to me so I can take on another Soul General?"

Situ Shenshu smiled faintly at Fang Xin. "My Lord, This Monk's past social connections were a bit poor, so when This Monk says 'familiar,' it's more than likely an old enemy, not a friend!"

Fang Xin smacked his lips, realizing he had gotten happy for nothing.

Situ Shenshu continued, "My Lord, I have a strong premonition that we should stay a little further from the sea!"

Fang Xin's perception net spread out slightly, and he walked towards the city by the sea. There were many beach chairs on the beach, and besides that, facilities like beach BBQ and beach bars.

Whoosh!

Waves washed over the beach. His perception net spread out, revealing a snack street right next to the beach. However, the entrance to the snack street was piled high with caltrops, like a small mountain.

As Fang Xin walked, he suddenly stopped, stepped on the ground beneath his feet, then squatted down and felt around. He discovered that beneath his feet was a beach mat. But what made Fang Xin's expression solemn wasn't the presence of a beach mat, but what was on top of it.

There was still warmth.

It seemed someone had just been there.

In the middle of the night, in such a long-abandoned city, to suddenly encounter something like this would give anyone a fright.

As a qualified keyboard politician, keyboard military strategist, keyboard folklorist, keyboard commentator, and keyboard traveler, Fang Xin had an understanding of the customs and traditions of many cities in China. But in his memory, no city had ever been like this place; he didn't recall such a sinister and terrifying city.

Fang Xin gripped the Panlong Spear in his hand, looking around vigilantly.

Tiger Guard Zheng floated behind Fang Xin, looking left and right, and rubbed his arms, saying, "Damn it, this place is too eerie, the Yin energy is too heavy. My Lord, let's find a place to settle down first!"

Fang Xin climbed over the caltrops and walked towards the snack street. His gaze shifted, and there were many snack stalls on both sides of the street.

"My Lord, something's not right. These snack stalls are all very clean, as if someone cleans and uses them every day!" Tiger Guard Mo noticed this.

Fang Xin had naturally noticed these things, and he felt even more that this place was somewhat sinister.

Rumble!

The sound of distant waves seemed louder than before.

The wind blew from one end of the food street towards them, and within the wind seemed to be mixed with many murmuring voices: the chatter of old people, the playful sounds of children, the bragging of men, the gossip of women, the arguments of merchants, the barking of unscrupulous bosses, the sounds of downtrodden workers acknowledging orders—all kinds of sounds, like a hodgepodge, as if the sounds of an entire city had been collected and then released all at once into the wind.

This wind lasted for nearly ten minutes. Suddenly, dense sounds came from the direction of the beach: a squelching sound, as if bare feet were running on the ground, and a very strange, uncomfortable-sounding squirming noise.

In the darkness, there were also many faint, dense points of light, moving towards the food street.

"My Lord, it seems someone is coming!"

Fang Xin quickly darted into a nearby small restaurant.

The restaurant wasn't large, and its decor looked like it was from many years ago. There was a price list still hanging on the wall. Fang Xin quickly scanned it and found it was a small home-style restaurant.

Very similar to what he had seen outside, this place was surprisingly clean, as if it were cleaned daily.

The sounds from the street outside grew closer.

Fang Xin looked out through the window.

With those points of light now, visibility was slightly better. Fang Xin then saw all sorts of fish, shrimp, crabs, conchs, jellyfish, and other aquatic animals passing through the street. These aquatic animals were not very large; proportionally, they all resembled human children.

Even though there were large ones like whale calves among them, they were only large in size, still very young in age.

These small sea creatures were lined up in a queue, each holding an irregularly shaped glowing crystal, and all of them were wearing clothes. Upon closer inspection, they were actually school uniforms. As these sea creatures passed through the street, on one side of each creature's line stood another sea creature, and the one standing out had several stripes on its arm.

"One, two, one, one, two, one, I found a penny by the roadside, ready to sing!"

"I found a penny by the roadside, and gave it to Uncle Policeman..."

Childish singing came from the mouths of these small sea creatures.

In the very middle of the line was a slowly crawling sea turtle. "Classmates, you must study hard! Elementary school is the most important time in your life; you must lay a good foundation! Developing good habits will be a treasure for your entire life!"

The procession took over half an hour to pass.

Just when he thought it was over, many more sea creatures, appearing slightly older, arrived. In the middle walked a king crab, over a meter wide and half a meter tall. "Classmates, you must remember, junior high is the most important moment in your lives. Getting into a good high school is crucial for your future. Don't believe those 'reading is useless' theories; those are just survivorship bias! Those who say such things are bad, and those who believe them are foolish. Studying hard is your only way out! Don't waste your junior high years!"

Fang Xin's eyebrows shot up. Not long after the junior high sea creatures passed, many more sea creatures came towards the city.

In the middle of the procession, an electric ray with a diameter of over three meters flew in mid-air, speaking earnestly to the sea creatures below, "Classmates, you must remember, high school is the most important time in your lives; it is the watershed of your lives!"
