Chapter 8: Zaku stands on the ground

The auxiliary aiming system overlapped.

Lieutenant Jans pulled the trigger, and a sudden explosion sounded behind him, but the shock of the explosion would have no effect.

The Zaku was built to battleship specifications.

However… these repeated provocations snapped the last remaining fuse of his sanity.

“Hey! Zeon dog, turn around!!!”

The big man Duo Gang, with a rocket launcher on his shoulder, stood on the vehicle and fired another rocket, his eyes bloodshot.

Now it was his turn, as the Legion Commander, to enter the fray.

There was no other way; people were dying out.

The more than three thousand people who had been there an hour ago were now fewer than five hundred, and every minute, every second now,

was bought with human lives!

“Zeon!!!”

Duo Gang roared as he threw down the spent rocket launcher, then grabbed another rocket launcher from the vehicle and hoisted it onto his shoulder.

The driver in front also roared, driving the car forward.

“You’re looking for death!”

The Zaku abruptly turned, machine gun in hand, muzzle flashing, and huge bullets flew from the barrel.

At this moment, Duo Gang and his men smiled.

“Come on!!!”

Boom boom boom…

A series of explosions moved forward from the road, the car’s speed already pushed to its limit.

But the Zaku’s turning speed was even faster.

The fire spitting from the muzzle was direct shelling; 120mm rounds falling meant an explosion, and roaring flames rose.

On that passenger spaceship.

In the cockpit, the captain, who was controlling the spaceship, looked at the pocket watch in his hand, which contained photos of his wife and daughter.

He forcefully pushed the ship’s speed to the fastest gear.

“Full speed ahead!!!”

The passenger spaceship’s speed reached its maximum, and Lieutenant Jans, inside the Zaku’s cockpit, also noticed something was wrong.

He quickly gripped the control stick and initiated a turn.

Outside, the Zaku turned again; the spaceship had already arrived, less than three hundred meters away, and was crashing straight into it.

“Damn it!”

Lieutenant Jans’s face darkened, and he pressed the firing button; outside, the Zaku, holding a 120mm machine gun, fired directly.

Dense bullets rained down on the passenger spaceship.

The thinly armored passenger spaceship couldn’t even withstand small meteorites, let alone bullets of this caliber.

Explosions boomed on the passenger spaceship.

The Zaku continued to fire its machine gun; the exploding spaceship, attracted by gravity, would fall even without propulsion.

This was something Lieutenant Jans had not anticipated.

Their training was all about how to destroy warships in a space environment, and in front of the highly mobile Zaku,

slow-moving behemoth warships were as sluggish as turtles.

Especially with the influence of Minovsky particles, space battleships lost their target detection radar capabilities, becoming completely blind.

With a loud boom,

the ground shook, and the passenger spaceship fell from the sky, causing an explosion that shattered the glass on the government building.

Flames shot into the sky.

The Zaku, which had faced the impact head-on, was pushed backward by the force, almost falling to the ground; Lieutenant Jans gritted his teeth, gripping the control stick.

He made the Zaku half-kneel to withstand the force of the impact.

“Huff huff… huff… ah.”

Lieutenant Jans leaned back in the pilot’s seat, breathing heavily.

Although the explosion did not penetrate the Zaku’s armor, the impact force could not be mitigated; it was endured head-on.

“Cough cough cough… Ugh!”

Lieutenant Jans spat out a mouthful of bloody saliva, then laughed viciously. He was almost ambushed by a bunch of rats in a gutter?

He tried to pull the control stick to make the Zaku stand up.

The screen was flickering; the sensor system was affected by the explosion’s impact, but there was still an auxiliary camera to see the view.

Outside, the Zaku slowly rose, adjusting from a half-kneeling posture to a standing one, its movements somewhat sluggish.

The impact of the explosion still had residual effects.

Another rocket flew out from the burning wreckage, exploding with a boom on the Zaku’s head.

“Don’t let him stand up!”

Duo Gang, with blood flowing from his forehead, aimed his rocket launcher at the Zaku standing up within the spaceship wreckage, desperately pulling the trigger.

The rocket, trailing its exhaust, flew in.

It exploded with a boom.

The Zaku’s body swayed; the surrounding burning wreckage impeded its movement, and Lieutenant Jans breathed heavily.

Another rocket boomed against the Zaku.

Lieutenant Jans raised his hand to open communications, “I’ve encountered some trouble, come over…”

With a boom, a rocket hit the Zaku’s cockpit at close range, just below the lower right of the Zaku’s chest armor.

The center of the Zaku’s T-shaped chest armor was the strongest part.

The pilot’s entry point was on the right side of the T-shaped chest armor, and that spot was only one layer of armor away from the cockpit.

However, under normal circumstances, it was impossible to hit.

But what if it was at close range without protection?

“Die!”

Suli, who had reloaded the rocket, wearing a white combat spacesuit, raised the rocket launcher and aimed at the location of the cockpit.

He pulled the trigger!

Boom!

The explosive flash and impact directly knocked Lieutenant Jans from his pilot’s seat.

The cumulative impact damage prevented him from even speaking.

“What’s going on? Answer me, where are you?”

Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, the pilot of another Zaku, was anxiously shouting loudly. Lieutenant Jans tremblingly tried to move his fingertips.

He wanted to grip the control stick.

Another explosion and impact made him spit out a mouthful of blood. In his hazy daze, he only saw the cockpit door open.

A man in a white combat spacesuit entered.

He grabbed him by the collar.

And threw him into the endless flames.

Was that hell…

Lieutenant Jans, thrown from the Zaku’s cockpit, looked at the burning wreckage of the spaceship and fell heavily onto it.

The broken metal was like a sharp blade pointing to the sky.

It pierced his body, impaling him in mid-air, and the flames, like the tongue of a demon, licked at his clothes and skin.

Amidst the flames and the smell of charring,

the Zaku heavily lifted its foot, stomping on the ground with a boom. Suli, sitting in the cockpit, gritted his teeth and pulled the control stick.

“Zaku, stand up!!!!”

Outside, the Zaku’s body emitted sounds of mechanical transmission, and under Suli’s control, the Zaku’s mono-eye on its head glowed red.

“Just like that!”

Suli sat in the cockpit, gripping the control stick, while also checking the Zaku’s damage. The Zaku series achieved a groundbreaking breakthrough because it had a built-in high-performance computer.

This simplified operation, allowing for mass production.

In addition to the mono-eye sensor on its head, there were twelve auxiliary cameras, providing a clear view of the outside situation.

“Power loss 38%, body damage 27%, right arm normal, left arm normal, head sensor system damage 63%, leg power normal, jet energy remaining 95%, ammunition expended 65 rounds.”

Suli calmly checked the Zaku’s condition.

This Zaku was the classic MS-06F, Zaku II.

Green colored.

No matter how it would be called a grunt unit later,

the Zaku was King now!

Suli checked the weapons on this Zaku: one 120mm machine gun, with two spare drum magazines.

That meant two hundred rounds of ammunition, one hundred per drum.

There was also a Heat Hawk for close combat.

It was not equipped with the 280mm A2 Rocket Launcher that carried a small nuclear warhead; that weapon was a destructive weapon specifically designed for ships.

It had a four-rocket magazine.

Whether now or in the future, the rocket launcher was a physically destructive artillery weapon.

However, these weapons were sufficient for now; if they were to deal with those armored units, it would be an overwhelming massacre!

“Lieutenant Jans! Respond if you hear me!”

The communication screen next to him lit up. Suli turned his head and saw a man with a handlebar mustache and a calm, mature face.

“…”

“Who are you?!”

Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, exclaimed in surprise, his shocked expression completely genuine. How could there be a stranger in the Zaku’s cockpit?

Suli, wearing a combat spacesuit, smiled.

“If you’re looking for him, you’ll meet him very soon.”

After speaking, Suli closed the communication channel.

He took out a universal repair core from his spacesuit. Looking at the orange-yellow translucent crystal, Suli didn’t hesitate for a moment.

He directly struck the crystal against the cockpit.

He needed this Zaku to return to its peak condition, because there was another Zaku he needed to fight against.

As the crystal shattered, an orange-yellow light instantly enveloped the entire Zaku. People outside saw this scene.

They all thought this Zaku was about to explode.

“Lord Suli!!!”

Duo Gang, holding a rocket launcher, cried out heartbreakingly: “Lord Suli, you said you would take down the Zaku!!!”

Whoosh…

The oppressive sensation and sound of tearing air instantly drowned out Duo Gang’s roar.

Duo Gang watched the dark shadow fly over his head.

It was a Zaku, another Zaku!

The Zaku, accelerating with its flight propulsion pack and leg thrusters, flew over. Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, sitting in the cockpit, saw the Zaku standing in the burning wreckage.

He quickly pulled the control stick and stopped.

Zaku Unit 102 hovered in the air, its leg thrusters stabilizing its direction. Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, looked down.

The light on that Zaku had disappeared, but where was Lieutenant Jans? Qiao Jie activated the weapon’s aiming search.

He searched through the burning wreckage.

The auxiliary aiming system overlapped.

Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, saw the corpse, impaled by metal wreckage, suspended in mid-air like charcoal.

In an instant, Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, gripped the control stick tightly.

He and Lieutenant Jans certainly had many disagreements, but this young man was the hope for the Principality of Zeon’s independence, the future of Zeon.

He shouldn’t die here!

And he certainly shouldn’t be humiliated like this!

Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, angrily pulled the control stick and pressed the trigger.

Outside, Zaku Unit 102 raised its machine gun and fired directly, the muzzle constantly flashing, like light bullets falling from the sky.

The target was the Zaku in the midst of the fire!

In the fire, a red crosshair lit up; it was the Zaku’s red mono-eye, piercing through the surrounding burning flames.

The next second, booming bullets rained down.

Suli gripped the control stick tightly, snarling, “Fly up!”

Outside, the White Zaku’s leg thrusters and its flight propulsion backpack instantly reached 120% output.

With a boom,

the surrounding burning flames seemed to be extinguished.

Boom boom boom…

A series of bullets fell, completely shattering the spaceship wreckage. Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, immediately reacted.

“Did it get away?”

Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, looked around, while also maneuvering Zaku Unit 102 to begin turning and searching for the target.

Just then, directly above Zaku Unit 102, the Green Zaku.

The White Zaku, burned white by the flames, its eyes glowing red, Suli in the cockpit locked onto the target and pulled the control stick.

The White Zaku raised its machine gun with its right hand, gripped the angled handle with its left, and fixed the scope firmly on Zaku Unit 102.

Tat-tat-tat-tat-tat…

The moment the gun fired, the experienced Qiao Jie, Warrant Officer, reacted, but it was too late to dodge. He urgently pulled the control stick, activating the energy supply to the flight propulsion backpack.
