Chapter 13: Self-sorting and the sorting hat

Lin Xia was not looking for the voice. She had a feeling that she would soon meet the owner of the voice.

But he said it was different from what was written in the book... Lin Xia's face was excited, but he was thinking in his heart: Could it be a book like a prophecy?

The divination skills she learned in her previous life could not be used in this world. All of them were converted into a compass of destiny in her mind, but she knew that this world had divination, which was called prophecy.

"Come on, follow me. First-year students, follow the tall seniors. Don't get separated. Watch your step and don't fall!" Hagrid shouted.

The young wizards followed the tall Hagrid and, under the protection of their seniors, kept moving forward and soon came to the ground covered with red, green, blue and yellow ribbons.

Hagrid said, "Freshmen, watch my movements. Since Hogwarts is quite far away, the academy has specially laid out a fast slide to help you get there quickly. Just stand on the ribbon and it will automatically carry you forward."

Hagrid stood on the red ribbon with a lion printed on it. The little pink umbrella tapped the ground and the ribbon rolled forward automatically, sending him to the other side at a very fast speed. Then Hagrid jumped onto another ribbon.

In the blink of an eye, he was far away from the little wizards.

The young wizards said "Ooooh" and swarmed forward onto the ribbon.

Lin Xia stood on the ribbon of Badger College, and then she tried the ribbons of all the colleges. It felt like she was playing on a rolling slide.

With the help of the fast slide, the towering castle in the distance becomes closer and closer.

The castle is as tall as the clouds, with towering spires and windows twinkling under the starry sky, exuding a mysterious and solemn atmosphere.

All the little wizards gathered on the grass in front of the castle. Looking up, the castle seemed to tower over their heads.

A young wizard approached Hagrid and asked curiously, "Professor, I heard that there are many trees in front of the gate of Hogwarts. When night falls, the shadows of the trees make it difficult to see the road. We also pass by a black lake called the Black Lake."

Hagrid said embarrassedly: "Child, I am not a teacher, I am just your guide. You can call me Hagrid. You are right, Hogwarts was like this ten years ago."

"But after Dumbledore came to power," he paused, "Speaking of Dumbledore, he was a great wizard. He issued many reform policies that were very helpful to the school, including the renovation of the Black Lake for the safety of the young wizards."

"I don't know if the Black Lake heard our decision, but one night it moved to the back of Hogwarts, next to the Forbidden Forest.

Hogwarts is very spiritual. It is not just a school, it is also a powerful fortress. You must not provoke it."

Hagrid threatened them a few times just to get them to doodle less on the walls. It was awful that he had to clean up the marks every year.

Lin Xiaduo glanced at the little wizard who asked the question and recognized him as the owner of the whisper.

They followed Hagrid up a flight of stone steps and gathered in front of a huge oak door.

Hagrid raised his huge fist and knocked hard on the castle door three times.

The door then opened, revealing a large lobby that could accommodate several courts.

There were blazing torches all around the stone walls, the ceiling was so high that you could hardly see the top, and a luxurious marble staircase faced the front. The castle was even bigger and larger than I had imagined.

A tall, dark-haired witch in emerald green robes stood at the doorway, looking at the young wizards with a serious expression.

The little wizard was still making noise and screaming, but he immediately fell silent after being glanced at by the witch.

After the witch handed over to Hagrid, she led the little wizard forward and came to a place with several doors.

There was a buzzing sound from the door on the right, and someone was talking inside, but the witch took the freshman to a spacious empty room at the other end of the hall.

After the young wizards had entered the empty house, the witch said, "Welcome to Hogwarts. You can call me Professor McGonagall. The opening feast is about to begin, but before that, you must first decide which house you will enter. Sorting is a very important ceremony..."

The names of the four colleges are: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Each college has a glorious history and has trained many outstanding wizards..."

The lengthy introduction did not dampen the spirits of the young wizards, but instead made them even more excited.

Lin Xia felt a little hungry, so she took out a bag of Qia Qia melon seeds from her small leather bag. It would be even better if she could have a small stool to sit on.

Professor McGonagall changed the subject and said, "Now, you have two choices: to go through the Sorting Ceremony to decide which house you will go to, or to go to whichever house you want."

A young wizard bravely asked, "Is there any difference between these two methods of sorting?"

Professor McGonagall: "Essentially, there is no difference. No matter which house you come from, you are all students of Hogwarts. The former is determined by the Sorting Hat, while the latter is the choice you follow in your heart."

"What if you decide to go to that college, but find out you were assigned to the wrong college?" another little wizard asked.

Professor McGonagall raised her head slightly and said seriously, "The school has considered this. We will give you a month to change your mind. Only students who choose to sort independently will have the opportunity to change their minds. Remember, you only have one chance."

She reiterated, "If you can't decide, then follow your heart. In a few minutes, your placement will take place in front of the entire school community."

Draco's expression shifted slightly, and he said with interest, "Lin Xia, how about we choose our own sorting house?"

He was originally worried about what to do if the Sorting Hat insisted on putting him in Slytherin. If it chose to sort him independently, he could go to Hufflepuff.

Lin Xia thought of the content in the "dream interpretation" and shook her head: "No, Draco, my heart tells me that I want the ancient sorting hat to choose the house for me."

There must be something wrong with the autonomous branch, otherwise they wouldn't send anyone to investigate. The words "aliens infiltrating" made her wary.

Draco wanted to say something, but Lin Xia said, "Draco, you come from an ancient family and should follow the more ancient sorting ceremony."

"Okay." Draco hesitated for a long time, but couldn't think of any reason to refute, so he could only agree.

A few minutes later, under the guidance of Professor McGonagall, the young wizards lined up in two rows, left the room, and walked through another door to the luxurious hall.

The young wizards opened their mouths in amazement, and even Draco couldn't help but exclaim in amazement. His family's manor was no match for it!

Thousands of candles floated above the auditorium. Looking up, you could see the stars shining, as if they had come to an open-air auditorium and were holding the sorting ceremony under the twinkling stars.

The seniors sat at four long tables, which were very wide and huge, with bright colors. Each table was placed with glittering gold plates and high-footed wine glasses.

Some seniors raised their glasses and smiled at them, while some even cheered, applauded and whistled at them.

"Welcome to Hogwarts!"

The little wizards were infected by this emotion and couldn't help jumping for joy.
