Chapter 8: Dr. Chen, amazing discovery

In Lu Qing's mind, the image that appeared was that of a kind-faced, slender old man.

Dr. Chen.

This Old Doctor was the only doctor in the nearby villages.

His medical skills were superb; while not exactly bringing the dead back to life, he could cure common headaches, fevers, sprains, and colds with almost immediate effect, rarely failing to heal.

Because of this, he was highly respected by the nearby villagers.

It was said that even the wealthy families in the City often invited him to treat their illnesses.

Such a figure undoubtedly held a special status in the village.

Almost no villager dared to show him the slightest disrespect.

The original Lu Qing was just an ignorant youth with limited horizons, and many things did not deeply affect him.

However, Lu Qing pondered for a moment and discovered something unusual.

For example, in his memories, Dr. Chen's age should have been quite advanced, yet his body was very robust, and he often entered and exited deep mountains alone to gather medicinal herbs.

One must understand that the deep mountains of this world were not like the developed tourist attractions of his previous life.

Instead, they were true towering peaks and primeval forests.

There were countless poisonous insects, venomous snakes, jackals, tigers, and ferocious beasts within, making them extremely dangerous.

Even experienced hunters dared not venture too deep into the mountains casually.

For Dr. Chen, an old man, to be able to safely enter and exit these places was truly extraordinary.

Lu Qing was very curious about his abilities.

If he could learn a few of Dr. Chen's medical skills, that would be wonderful.

His special ability allowed him to see the basic information of all things.

Using it to identify medicinal herbs would be foolproof.

It was simply a perfect match for medical skills.

If he could learn a bit of Dr. Chen's abilities, then his and Xiao Yan's future lives would have some assurance.

However, how could he learn skills from Dr. Chen?

Lu Qing thought to himself, but his eyelids couldn't help but start to droop.

After all, his body was weak, and the feeling of fatigue was not something his will could resist.

In the end, before falling asleep, Lu Qing couldn't come up with a good solution.

However, what Lu Qing didn't expect was that before he could figure out how to approach Dr. Chen, Dr. Chen came to him.

Lying in the recliner, Lu Qing fell asleep, and in his daze, he seemed to hear someone speaking, followed by the sensation of someone grasping his hand.

He immediately woke up with a start.

"Lu Qing, you're awake! Dr. Chen is examining you!"

A loud voice rang out.

Lu Qing found it somewhat familiar, it seemed to be Zhang Daye from next door, and his heart first relaxed.

Then, he suddenly became fully awake and opened his eyes.

Dr. Chen?

He turned his head to see two old men nearby, one standing and one sitting.

The one sitting was slender and kind-faced; who else could it be but Dr. Chen?

"Don't move, let me take your pulse first."

Seeing Lu Qing seemingly about to get up, Dr. Chen said gently.

Lu Qing immediately dared not move.

Only then did he realize that Dr. Chen's hand was resting on his wrist.

No wonder he had felt someone grasping his hand in his daze just now; it turned out to be Dr. Chen taking his pulse.

Seeing Dr. Chen close his eyes again to take his pulse, Lu Qing also dared not move, so he honestly continued to lie in the recliner.

Feeling that the pulse-taking might not end anytime soon, Lu Qing couldn't help but observe the somewhat mysterious Dr. Chen in his leisure time.

His first impression was that the Old Doctor was even gentler than he remembered, and his slender figure had a touch of immortal-like elegance.

It gave people a sense of peace at first glance.

However, at this moment, his expression was solemn, and his brows were tightly furrowed, as if he had encountered some difficulty.

Lu Qing quietly observed Dr. Chen for a while, and suddenly, he saw a faint red glow appear around the Old Doctor's body.

【Chen Songqing: Excellent medical skills, kind-hearted, respected, a good Old Doctor.】

【Cultivation: Accomplished Qi cultivation, Acquired Innate Viscera Realm.】

What is this?!

Lu Qing's eyes suddenly widened, not only because of the faint red glow appearing around the Old Doctor but also because of the description in the following note.

Since waking up, Lu Qing had gradually figured out some patterns of his special ability.

Ordinary things, when probed by his ability, usually appeared with a gray glow.

More special things, like medicinal herbs, would show a white glow.

But humans, without exception, all showed a white glow; at least, everyone he had met in the village was like this.

However, the white glow varied in intensity, with adults being the strongest, followed by youths and children, and then the elderly.

Lu Qing guessed that this might be related to a person's energy or vitality.

After all, generally speaking, adults have the best energy, and the elderly have the worst.

But Dr. Chen's manifestation, however, overturned his understanding.

What appeared was an unprecedented red glow!

More importantly, the content of the note that popped up afterward.

Cultivation?

Accomplished Qi cultivation, Acquired Innate Viscera Realm?

What did this mean? Could it be that the world he was in was not what he thought, a world similar to ancient Huaxia, but a more mystical and special world where one could Cultivate?

Lu Qing's heart was thrown into disarray by the sudden change.

Just as he wanted to continue observing and gather more information from the Old Doctor, Dr. Chen suddenly opened his eyes.

He saw Lu Qing's flustered and shocked expression, first frowning, then relaxing.

He gently comforted him, saying, "Don't be afraid, I'm just taking your pulse."

He had misunderstood, thinking that his solemnity during the pulse-taking had scared Lu Qing.

Lu Qing took the opportunity to control his emotions and asked somewhat nervously, "Grandpa Chen, how is my illness? Am I completely well?"

Zhang Daye, standing nearby, also looked at Dr. Chen expectantly.

Dr. Chen pondered for a moment and said, "Indeed, your illness has truly healed. Although you are still a bit weak, as long as you recuperate properly, there will be no major issues."

"Really? That's wonderful! Lu Qing, hurry up and thank Dr. Chen! If it weren't for the Old Doctor prescribing medicine to cure your illness, you might not have woken up!" Zhang Daye said joyfully.

"Thank you, Grandpa Chen."

Lu Qing climbed out of the recliner, preparing to kneel and kowtow.

After all, the Old Doctor had indeed saved his life.

If it weren't for that bowl of herbal soup, he might not have survived the period of Fusion with the memories.

Just for that, he deserved his bow.

Dr. Chen, however, stopped Lu Qing, "No need for this. Your waking up is also your own good fortune. I, this old man, merely did my humble part."

Dr. Chen's words were not false modesty.

In fact, even now, he was still extremely surprised.

When Lu Qing fell ill, he had indeed come to see him.

At that time, Lu Qing had a severe cold that had penetrated his bones, his Qi was like a faint wisp, and he was critically ill, on his last breath.

Even if a true master of the Dao of medicine had come, it would have been difficult to save him.

With the compassion of a healer, he eventually prescribed a decoction and added many precious medicinal herbs to it.

His purpose was merely to do his human part and then leave the rest to fate.

Some of the medicinal herbs he added were even pre-ordered by nobles in the City.

For this, he had to rush into the mountains to gather herbs the very next day to fill the void.

He had originally thought that Lu Qing wouldn't make it through this ordeal, but to his surprise, when he returned from gathering herbs, he heard villagers saying that Lu Qing's illness had already healed.

Not only could he get out of bed and walk, but he could even go to the river to catch fish.

In his astonishment, he disregarded everything else and wanted to visit to find out the truth.

Arriving outside the courtyard, he happened to run into Zhang Daye, who had just returned from working in the fields, so the two entered the house together.

He had initially thought that the villagers' words were exaggerated.

Now, after taking Lu Qing's pulse, he found that the villagers had not exaggerated in the slightest.

Lu Qing's illness had indeed completely healed.

Except for still being somewhat weak, all his previous symptoms had vanished.

This greatly astonished Dr. Chen.
