Chapter 3: Playing games on the first day of work

Li Changye stood in front of the booth, looking at the college students who were ecstatic, even red-eyed, after passing the interviews.

An indescribable, strange feeling suddenly welled up in his heart.

Excitement, yes, but more than that, a sense of absurdity and a... inexplicable sense of responsibility?

“Being this Chairman, it seems... isn't so useless after all?”

He touched his nose and muttered in a low voice.

“This is great! Thank you, Chairman Li! Thank you, Chairman Li!”

“Are we really hired? Starting salary of 10,000 summer yuan?”

“Huanyu Group! Cangqiong International Center! Am I dreaming?!”

Cheers rose one after another, almost overturning this corner.

Li Changye cleared his throat, waved his hand, and tried to make himself look more like a Chairman: “Ahem, quiet down! Since everyone has chosen to trust our Huanyu Group, I naturally won't treat you unfairly. Here are the labor contracts, you can take a look. If there are no issues, we'll sign them on the spot!”

Everyone swarmed forward, meticulously reading the contracts, afraid of missing a single word.

When they confirmed everything was in order, their faces revealed an unbelievable ecstasy.

“Chairman Li, I'll sign!” The first young man to finish reading the contract was trembling all over.

He was so excited that his face was flushed, and his hands were shaking slightly as he signed his name.

His name was Sun Zhen, a graduate from an ordinary second-tier university in Yan Province. He had sent out countless resumes, and this was the first, and also the best-paying, offer he had received.

“I'll sign too!”

“Me too!”

For a time, the signing scene was exceptionally lively.

Li Changye busily stamped the official seal, pressing down the bright red ink.

After a long period of work, he had recruited a total of twenty-eight people.

Looking at this group of employees full of youth and vitality, Li Changye suddenly realized a problem: with so many people, someone had to manage them, right? He himself didn't want to deal with these trivial matters.

His gaze swept through the crowd, finally landing on the young man who had asked the first question and said he majored in marketing.

“You, what's your name?” Li Changye pointed at him.

The young man was flattered and quickly said, “Chairman Li, my name is Zhao Lei, a fresh graduate from Yan Province University of Finance and Economics, majoring in Marketing.”

“Good, Zhao Lei,”

Li Changye nodded, “From today onwards, you will be the temporary head of our Huanyu Group's Human Resources Department! Your main job will be to handle any potential future recruitment, as well as employee onboarding procedures, file management, and so on. As for how to do it specifically, you figure it out yourself. If you need any support, let me know.”

Zhao Lei's eyes lit up. Although it was only a “temporary head,” this was a department manager-level position.

He immediately straightened his back: “Yes, Chairman Li! I guarantee to complete the task!”

Li Changye nodded with satisfaction. Being a hands-off boss so easily felt really good.

With things settled, Li Changye looked at the sky and said, “Alright, that's it for today. Tomorrow morning at nine o'clock, report on time to the top floor, 88th floor, of Sky International Center Tower A in Yanzhou City CBD, our Huanyu Group headquarters! Did everyone remember?”

“Remembered, Chairman Li!” Everyone responded in unison, their voices loud and full of anticipation for the future.

Li Changye waved his hand, then, under the respectful gazes of the new employees, he got on his secondhand bicycle, which rattled everywhere except for its bell.

He rode away with a creaking sound.

“Wow, Chairman Li is so simple and unadorned! Such a big boss actually rides a bicycle!”

“Yes, yes, this is truly someone who does great things, unconcerned with trifles, low-key, and practical!”

“I've decided, from now on, Chairman Li is my idol!”

The new employees looked at Li Changye's receding figure and praised him from the bottom of their hearts.

In their minds, the image of this young Chairman instantly became much taller and more imposing.

Li Changye had no idea that he had already been labeled “simple and practical.”

He rode his bicycle, feeling delighted.

The thought that he now had employees, and a group of employees earning over 10,000 summer yuan a month, filled him with the drive of a 3,000 summer yuan monthly salary?

Returning to the humble rented room, which cost eight hundred summer yuan a month and was less than ten square meters, Li Changye lay down on the hard bed, feeling as if life were a dream.

Yesterday, he was still a job-seeking dog hitting walls everywhere; today, he became the Chairman of a group with a registered capital of one billion. This contrast made him toss and turn excitedly on the bed.

“System, oh System, do you think I've reached the top in one step?” he asked in his mind.

The system's cold voice was unperturbed: “Host's current personal monthly salary is three thousand summer yuan, still a long way from financial freedom. Please focus on enterprise development, improve employee well-being, and contribute to building a harmonious society.”

Li Changye pouted: “Got it, got it, I understand.”

Once his excitement passed, his stomach began to rumble. He felt the few crumpled banknotes left in his pocket and sighed.

He got up and made a bowl of five-summer yuan braised beef noodles. Only after the steaming noodle soup went down did he feel alive again.

“When I get paid, I'll definitely go eat something good first!”

Li Changye secretly vowed. Although his monthly salary was three thousand summer yuan, it was at least issued by the system, so it shouldn't be delayed, right?

The next day, Sky International Center Tower A.

This 88-story skyscraper, like a sharp sword piercing the clouds, was undoubtedly the landmark building of Yan Province. To have an office here was the dream of countless enterprises.

Li Changye rode his loyal “old buddy,” and amidst the envious, jealous, and hateful gazes of luxury cars, he painstakingly found a bicycle parking spot.

After locking his bike, he looked up at the building, took a deep breath, and walked inside.

The lobby was resplendent and reflective.

The front desk lady was sweet and professional. Seeing Li Changye in his street-stall clothes, a hint of imperceptible surprise flashed in her eyes, but she still politely inquired about his purpose.

“I need to go to Huanyu Group's office,” Li Changye said.

“Huanyu Group?”

The front desk lady checked the system, then showed a standard smile, “May I ask who you are?”

“I am Li Changye.”

“Oh, Mr. Li Changye, hello. Huanyu Group is on the 88th floor. Please take the VIP exclusive elevator up.”

The lady said, and personally guided him to the elevator entrance.

Li Changye marveled in his heart, this system's arrangements were truly proper.

The elevator ascended rapidly, quickly reaching the 88th floor.

As the elevator doors opened, the first thing that came into view was a huge front desk, with the four large characters “Huanyu Group” written in bold, sweeping strokes on the background wall.

The entire floor was luxuriously and grandly decorated, full of modern and technological flair, with 360-degree panoramic floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a full view of the bustling Yanzhou City.

Zhao Lei and the other twenty-seven new employees had already arrived. They were all dressed in suits or their most presentable clothes, gathered in small groups, exclaiming in admiration at the office environment that rivaled a five-star hotel.

“Oh my god, this place is too luxurious!”

“This desk, this chair, they're more comfortable than my sofa at home!”

“Look at the lounge area over there, there's even a coffee machine and a snack cabinet!”

“Working in a place like this, I'd be willing to work overtime every day!”

Seeing Li Changye walk in, everyone immediately quieted down, looking at him in unison, their eyes filled with anticipation and a hint of nervousness.

“Good morning, Chairman Li!” Zhao Lei led the greeting.

“Good morning, everyone.” Li Changye nodded, trying to appear more composed.

He was also here for the first time, and deep down, he was more shocked than anyone else.

This system, it really kept things hidden!

However, after the shock, new problems arose.

Everyone stared at each other.

Li Changye sat in the boss's chair, which was said to be imported pure handmade from Italy, feeling a bit bewildered himself.

The office was top-notch, the employees were high-paying, but he... he didn't know what he wanted them to do!

He had been so caught up in his excitement yesterday that he hadn't even thought about what the company's specific business would be.

The system only gave him a “super license covering over 99% of all industry business scopes,” which was too broad, almost like saying nothing at all.

“Ahem,” Li Changye cleared his throat, breaking the silence, “Since everyone has just arrived, let's get familiar with the environment first. Zhao Lei, take everyone to find their workstations. Oh, right, office computers and such, they should all be fully equipped, right?”

As soon as he asked this, he saw that each workstation had the latest model computer, along with a matching keyboard and mouse.

Zhao Lei quickly said, “Chairman Li, everything is complete! Everyone has top-of-the-line equipment! We've checked it all, it's simply perfect!”

Li Changye inwardly gave the system another thumbs-up.

The employees excitedly found their workstations, touching this and looking at that, full of novelty.

But after the novelty wore off, everyone became idle again.

They all looked expectantly at Li Changye, waiting for him to assign work.

What work could Li Changye assign? He himself didn't know what to do next.

He glanced at the equally top-spec computer on his own desk, and an idea sparked in his mind.

“Well... since everyone is here and the computers are ready.”

Li Changye pondered for a moment, then showed a kind smile, “How about... we play a few rounds of games for team building? Get to know each other and enhance our relationships?”

“Huh?”

All the employees were dumbfounded.

First day of work, no discussion of work, no training, no grand promises, just... playing games? This Chairman Li, he doesn't follow the usual script!
