Chapter 8: First battle

“What’s the plan? Should we go look for Fengwei Chicken now or do the sect missions first?” Ye Wuyai looked at Zhao Shijie.

The others subconsciously focused their gaze on Zhao Shijie.

After their brief time together, the group had clearly come to see Zhao Shijie as their leader.

Zhao Shijie pondered for a moment, then said, “These sect missions take a longer time, so it’s not too late to do them later.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Ye Wuyai immediately chimed in, “Sect missions can be worked on all night, even all night long.”

“That’s true. Xian Ge only gave us two days, so we have to work hard.”

“Xiaoxiao, what do you say? Do you want to team up with us to fight monsters?”

Jiang Xiaoxiao was momentarily conflicted, then thought for a moment and shook her head slightly, “I’ll just stay in the sect to do missions. I don’t want to hold you guys back.”

“Alright then. I’ll leave the axe in the courtyard for you. You can chop trees if you have nothing else to do.”

“Okay, you guys be careful.”

The four bid farewell to Jiang Xiaoxiao, grabbed their weapons, and plunged into the secret forest.

To be safe, they bought a few more Hemostasis Pills from the marketplace.

The four cautiously traversed the secret forest, walking nearly five hundred meters without finding any traces of demonic beasts, though they did discover many droppings and footprints left by demonic beasts on the ground.

Lin Ye took off his clothes and collected the dry droppings along the way.

“What are you picking up that stuff for? It stinks!” Qin Zhenhua covered his nose, his face full of disgust.

“You don’t understand, do you? These droppings have residual demonic beast scent on them, which can effectively mask our own scent. Besides, some demonic beasts won’t approach us rashly if they smell this.”

Lin Ye proudly pulled out the droppings, smeared them on his clothes, and then handed a sticky ball of droppings to the three of them, “This is a natural protective talisman. Do you want some?”

The three covered their noses and subconsciously took a step back.

Qin Zhenhua gagged a few times, but Zhao Shijie gritted his teeth and took the droppings, smearing them on his clothes while gagging.

Ye Wuyai hesitated for a moment, suppressed the urge to vomit, closed his eyes, snatched the droppings, and smeared them haphazardly.

The remaining Qin Zhenhua refused to accept them no matter what, so Lin Ye had no choice but to tie the clothes containing the droppings behind him.

Even so, Qin Zhenhua still vomited several times from the disgust.

The four continued to delve three hundred meters deeper, following the route Chu Huaian had given them.

“Crouch down!”

Zhao Shijie suddenly whispered from ahead, and the other three, like startled birds, quickly lay flat on the ground, not daring to move.

“What’s going on?” Lin Ye asked in a low voice.

“Shh, keep it down. Crawl over here and look.” Zhao Shijie gestured, motioning for everyone to come forward.

The three carefully moved their bodies and gently pushed aside the bushes.

They saw a giant python coiled around a large tree, its mouth still holding a demonic beast that resembled a rhinoceros.

Around it, there were also traces left by a battle.

Fallen ancient trees and shattered ground all indicated that a fierce battle had just taken place here.

The four nervously swallowed their saliva, slowly retracted their hands, and lay on the ground, not daring to move an inch.

Lin Ye, still uneasy, smeared all the droppings on his arms and face.

Zhao Shijie and Ye Wuyai quickly followed suit, and even Qin Zhenhua couldn’t care less, unbuttoning his clothes, pouring out all the droppings, and smearing them all over his body.

The pungent, nauseating smell continuously assaulted their sense of smell. At this moment, they had only one thought: a game being too realistic isn’t always a good thing.

If they had a choice, they wouldn’t torment themselves like this, but the price of death was a three-hour lockdown, and they had to break through to the Body Tempering Stage within two days to obtain the cultivation method.

Only then would they truly embark on their journey of immortal cultivation, especially Zhao Shijie; time was life, and he had to give it his all.

Time passed minute by minute. After about half an hour, the sound of the giant python devouring gradually disappeared.

Zhao Shijie quietly pulled back the leaves in front of him and whispered, “It’s gone.”

Phew~

The four sighed in relief, letting out a long breath of stale air, and climbed up from the ground.

“That damn thing, I’ll chop it up and make snake soup out of it sooner or later!” Ye Wuyai spat fiercely.

“Let’s leave here first, lest we encounter other demonic beasts.”

Zhao Shijie called out, gripping his long spear, and continued forward.

Soon, the four arrived at their destination.

This was a plain the size of a football field, with several dozens of wild chickens walking back and forth on the uneven grass.

The tails of the wild chickens had several long feathers of various colors, dazzling under the sunlight.

“Is this the Fengwei Chicken? It’s so beautiful.” Zhao Shijie exclaimed.

“This chicken is too big, it’s almost as big as an ostrich.” Ye Wuyai couldn’t help but complain.

“What’s the plan now? How do we kill the monster?”

Qin Zhenhua’s face was filled with excitement; this feeling of hunting made him both nervous and thrilling.

It was much more exciting than those flashy, dissolute places!

“Good thing I was prepared when I came.” Lin Ye pulled a small bag of spirit rice from his pocket and shook it in front of the three of them.

“I’ll go set up a trap ahead. You guys wait for me here.”

With that, he took advantage of the chickens’ inattention, crouched down, ran into a pit, grabbed a small handful of spirit rice, and scattered it forward.

As he returned along the way, he left a little spirit rice every two steps, finally slipping into the bushes to rejoin Zhao Shijie and the other two.

“Now we just need to wait.”

“Will this method work? What if more than two come?”

“Let’s wait and see. If there are too many, we’ll stay put and wait for an opportunity. If it’s a lone one, we’ll finish it quickly.”

“No problem.”

“I and Lin Ye will be the main attackers, Qin Zhenhua, you provide support from the side, and Ye Wuyai, you do ranged damage. We must finish it quickly and hide after killing it.”

“OK!” The three nodded vigorously, tightly gripping their weapons.

The four didn’t wait too long. A few minutes later, a Fengwei Chicken slowly walked towards them.

“Here it comes, here it comes, eat quickly, eat quickly.”

The four mumbled incessantly, their eyes fixed on the Fengwei Chicken.

The next second, the Fengwei Chicken raised its head and looked left and right. After confirming there was no danger, it lowered its head and pecked at the spirit rice on the ground.

When it took its first bite, the Fengwei Chicken paused, as if it had tasted something delicious, and its eating speed involuntarily quickened.

As the Fengwei Chicken approached step by step, the four’s breathing became a little rapid, and their palms began to sweat.

“Go!”

With Zhao Shijie’s low roar, the three quickly rushed out.

The Fengwei Chicken was startled and flapped its wings, wanting to escape.

Whoosh, an arrow blocked its retreat.

The Fengwei Chicken, in a panic, tried to escape from the other side, but a long blade came flying at it, forcing it back.

In an instant, the Fengwei Chicken was surrounded by the four.

“Chop it to death!”

Whoosh, whoosh, the four swung their weapons, hacking wildly without any specific technique.

“Goo-goo…” The Fengwei Chicken was greatly alarmed and instinctively flapped its wings.

Bang, Lin Ye and Qin Zhenhua were accidentally struck and immediately sent flying by the powerful force.

Zhao Shijie quickly retreated a step, dodging the Fengwei Chicken’s attack.

“Everyone, don’t panic! Ye Wuyai, cover me!”

Zhao Shijie roared, using his long spear like a club, smashing it fiercely at the Fengwei Chicken.

Behind him, Ye Wuyai nervously strung his bow, squinting as he aimed back and forth.

Whoosh, an arrow shot at Zhao Shijie’s feet, making Zhao Shijie curse loudly, “Can’t you aim properly?!”

The Fengwei Chicken ignored them, taking advantage of the opening to run away.
