Chapter 121: The dust has settled

With a single move of "Calming the Storm," Liu Chengfeng single-handedly cleared out the monsters below this section of the city wall in an instant.

"The Brainworm is dead, kill it!"

Taking advantage of the momentary silence, Chen Bugu shouted loudly.

Liu Chengfeng turned to look at Chen Bugu, a little surprised.

But he also understood that now was not the time to ask questions; whether the Brainworm was dead or not, the Hellfire Salamander had to be dealt with first.

Liu Chengfeng raised his blade and charged forward.

Seeing this, Chen Bugu quickly ran to the other side to help the few Dwarfs deal with the remaining monsters.

At this moment, only three Dwarf guards around Master Fran were still alive; with Chen Bugu's help, they supported the dying Master Fran and retreated towards the top of the city wall.

Liu Chengfeng and the Hellfire Salamander had already begun fighting, and the residual energy from their battle easily crushed the lower-level monsters.

To avoid affecting the city wall, Liu Chengfeng intentionally led the battle outward.

After the Brainworm's death, only a few inherently brutal monsters continued to attack; their craving for energy suppressed their rationality, so they continued to assault the precarious South City Wall.

However, Liu Chengfeng's "Calming the Storm" move awakened countless monsters.

The desire for life ultimately triumphed over the craving for energy, and most monsters that had not yet climbed the city wall stopped in their tracks, some even directly turning and fleeing.

From the moment the Brainworm was killed, the monsters on the city wall also experienced a moment of disorientation, and then their attacks became chaotic.

Before this, the monsters' energy attacks would deliberately avoid their own kind, but from this moment on, this strange unspoken agreement was broken.

Large numbers of monster attacks were unleashed indiscriminately, without regard for whether they would accidentally injure other monsters, which greatly reduced the pressure on Han Badou and the others.

This scene fell into Han Badou's eyes, and his face instantly lit up with joy.

He understood that Chen Bugu's decapitation strike had succeeded!

Han Badou immediately spread this news via sound transmission to several Human Awakeneds, including Bai Ting, Yan Kuan, and Elder Zhou, while also instructing them to spread the message to others around them.

In less than half a minute, the remaining thirty-odd survivors on this small section of the city wall all knew the news.

They also noticed that the total number of monsters on the city wall had significantly decreased, no longer appearing endless as before, as if everything was foretelling the imminent arrival of victory.

Warriors who had long been exhausted and despairing, at this moment, once again burst into roars, vigorously swinging the weapons in their hands, killing one monster after another.

Between hope and despair, one of the few commonalities is that they are highly contagious.

At this moment, the survivors who saw hope gritted their teeth, squeezed out the last bit of strength from their bodies, and once again erupted with powerful combat capabilities.

When Chen Bugu and a few Dwarfs helped Master Fran onto the wall, the number of monsters on the city wall had already dwindled to just over thirty, and the defenders, who had originally shrunk into a small circle, finally launched another counterattack.

Chen Bugu stood behind the monsters, raised Bi Yu Wei Lan, plucked the bowstring, and shot out streams of water arrows, completing the encirclement and annihilation of the remaining monsters.

Three minutes later, no living enemies could be seen on the city wall.

Everyone collapsed to the ground, exhausted, sweat and blood mixed together, soaking their entire clothes.

Chen Bugu supported Master Fran and walked towards Lin Lin.

The remaining survivors all saw Master Fran's miserable state at this moment.

His left side was charred black, his soft armor had disappeared, and his right eye was pierced by a huge stone, which was still deeply embedded in his eye socket, not yet pulled out.

The huge laceration on his abdomen and the penetrating wound on his back, with flesh scorched by flames, were horrifyingly exposed.

People quickly made way, allowing Chen Bugu and a few Dwarfs to bring Master Fran to Lin Lin.

"Are you alright?"

Lin Lin looked at the bloodstains on Chen Bugu's lips, asking with some concern.

If Han Badou hadn't informed everyone of Chen Bugu's success in killing the Brainworm to boost morale, Lin Lin would have remained unaware.

Han Badou had previously told everyone that Chen Bugu went to the East City Wall for reinforcements; although Lin Lin found it strange, she had no energy to delve deeper given the ongoing battle.

Only now did she realize that Chen Bugu had risked his life, venturing deep into the beast tide to kill the Brainworm, which inevitably made her worried.

"I'm fine, Lin Lin, quickly go see Master Fran, he seems to be dying."

Chen Bugu laid Master Fran flat in front of Lin Lin; at this moment, the Dwarf leader's breath was becoming increasingly faint.

"Lady, please, save our leader."

The remaining three Dwarfs stood beside Lin Lin, their constant pleading posture extremely humble, making it hard to imagine that these were the typically hot-tempered Dwarf.

Lin Lin had continuously used Holy Light before, and at this moment, she had broken through to Black Iron Five-Star.

Having fought until now, her mental power was also nearly depleted, so she had no choice but to first release a Holy Light to check Master Fran's injuries.

"He is very seriously injured, and my mental power is insufficient; I can only use Holy Light to sustain his life for now."

Lin Lin frowned; Master Fran's injuries were far more severe than she had imagined, and if it had been ten more minutes, even she would have been powerless to save him.

The few Dwarfs bowed repeatedly in thanks; as long as Master Fran's life could be preserved, they were already extremely grateful.

Over the next two hours, Lin Lin intermittently treated Master Fran nearly ten times, finally saving the Dwarf master's life completely.

During this period, the remaining defenders gradually recovered some physical strength and continuously threw the monster corpses off the city wall.

Chen Bugu walked to the edge of the city wall and looked down; the area below the wall was covered with corpses.

The severed limbs of Awakeneds and the heads of monsters were scattered haphazardly across the ground, which had been bombarded by various elemental storms.

The remaining monsters had long since scattered like birds and beasts, fleeing in all directions and disappearing.

And when Liu Chengfeng returned, carrying the tail of the Hellfire Salamander, everyone realized that this battle had finally come to a complete end.

Unfortunately, Liu Chengfeng was unable to kill the Hellfire Salamander; he merely severely wounded it, and it escaped by severing its tail.

But even so, when Liu Chengfeng threw that enormous tail onto the city wall, the survivors on the entire South City Wall simultaneously erupted in deafening cheers.

Since the battle began, the entire South City Wall had successively deployed nearly 5,000 combatants, and less than half of them were still alive at this moment.

People cheered, cried, and rejoiced that they had survived once again.

Many survivors also silently walked to one side; even though they had long been accustomed to death, they still became incredibly silent at this moment.

They held the bodies of their relatives or friends in their arms, suppressing their grief as they walked towards a corner.

At this moment, the heavy rain finally stopped.

A gap appeared in the dark sky, revealing a clear blue sky.

A ray of sunlight pierced through layers of dark clouds, falling upon the South City Wall.

A tear slipped from the corner of a survivor's eye, fell onto the face of a deceased person, and finally sparkled under the sunlight.

People prayed at this moment.

Praying that the departed souls could return home...

Back to their own world...
