Chapter 10: Life and death

Faced with the impervious Lamb Head Monster, Zhang Wei was at his wit's end. Just then, police sirens blared from outside, and the people still running in the square began to panic and rush into the building.

Seeing the reactions of these people, Zhang Wei knew that whoever was coming wasn't good news. Damn it, it looked like there was going to be a tough fight.

He only had two AKs in his hands, and he felt the firepower was insufficient. As the saying goes, all fear comes from insufficient firepower, and insufficient firepower makes people very fearful. As a true Son of Huaxia, the phobia of insufficient firepower was already etched into his bones.

What to do about insufficient firepower?

There's a song that goes very well: "No guns, no cannons, the enemy will make them for me."

All the security guards lying on the ground were fully armed. Guns were out of the question; Zhang Wei couldn't use that many with just two hands. But each of these security guards was equipped with two grenades.

These were good things. So, Zhang Wei called out to Zhu Zi, who was looking at him like he was a lunatic, and told him to help collect all the grenades from the security guards' bodies.

Killing people and looting their bodies was simply too satisfying.

Once all the fleeing people had run into the building, the square fell silent for a moment. Countless eyes quietly watched Zhang Wei and Zhu Zi busy themselves.

Damn it, let's fight them to the death!

Suddenly, a voice came from inside the building.

A tattooed man sprinted out of the stairwell and headed straight for the pile of security guard bodies.

Zhu Zi was startled and quickly hid behind Zhang Wei, trembling as he said, "Great Hero, someone's here."

"I know, I'm not blind."

He stripped an item of clothing from a security guard's body, tied the sleeves into a knot to make a bag, and put all the grenades inside. There were easily fifty or sixty of them.

Zhu Zi followed suit, picking up about twenty grenades, and also stripped a security guard's uniform to make a bag for them.

The person who ran out of the building stopped not far from Zhang Wei and raised his hands to show he had no ill intentions.

"Brother, how about we charge out together? They outnumber us, and one more person means one more hope."

The man said to Zhang Wei.

Zhang Wei was noncommittal.

Seeing that Zhang Wei didn't object, he turned and loudly shouted towards the building, "Those who aren't afraid of death, come out! There are guns here, let's go out together and fight those devils!"

"Let's fight!"

There was a response from inside the building, and several men ran out. The tattooed man bent down, picked up an AK from a security guard's body, pulled the bolt, removed the magazine, and reloaded it. His series of actions appeared very professional.

"Oh, you were in the military?"

Zhang Wei's eyes lit up.

The man, around thirty years old, saw Zhang Wei looking at his tattoo and raised his arm. "My name is Tang Pulin. I served for two years. This tattoo was done after I was discharged."

At this moment, the police sirens outside were getting closer and closer. About a dozen people ran out of the building. Some of them knew how to use guns, while others had no idea.

They were all in the same boat. Those who knew simply taught those who didn't. Tang Pulin led the way towards the main gate, saying to Zhang Wei as he walked:

"Brother, the people outside don't treat us as humans. They are all enemies. Don't hold back later; fight them to the death. If one of us can get out, that's one. Killing one is breaking even, killing two is a profit."

Zhang Wei spread his hands.

"Do you need to remind me? Who do you think killed this group of security guards on the ground?"

Tang Pulin turned to look at Zhang Wei.

"So it was you. No wonder. Brother, I owe you a favor. If we can get out of here alive, I'll buy you a drink."

Zhang Wei had a good impression of this man; he was decisive and straightforward, and seemed like a forthright fellow.

So he nodded and said, "Let's get out first."

At the main entrance, Zhang Wei crouched by the door and peeked outside.

The streets were full of Xiao Heizi wearing similar uniforms to the security guards. Several oddly shaped police cars were parked not far away, along with a few Toyota pickup trucks with heavy machine guns mounted on them, pointing towards the main entrance.

In the distance, there was even an armored vehicle, turning its cannon.

"Terrorists inside, listen up! You are surrounded! Immediately lay down your weapons and surrender!"

A person who looked like a military officer was shouting through a loudspeaker.

"Haha, terrorists, terrorists, we are terrorists."

The man named Tang Pulin burst into maniacal laughter upon hearing this.

"Brother, don't listen to them. These natives, in their eyes, we Chinese are like pigs and dogs. They can beat us if they want, kill us if they want. I've personally seen hundreds of our countrymen shot dead by them. There's no way out by surrendering; we can only fight."

Seeing that some people behind him were wavering, Tang Pulin quickly spoke to persuade them.

"In this damned place, human lives are like grass."

Surrendering was not Zhang Wei's choice. The Lamb Head Monster in his ear started nagging again.

"Heads, someone's delivering heads! Hurry, hurry! Kill them all! I smell blood, quack."

The loudspeaker outside started speaking again.

"Terrorists inside, please note, immediately lay down your weapons and come out to surrender. This is the final warning."

"Go to hell!"

Zhang Wei was annoyed by the Lamb Head Monster's incessant chatter. He grabbed a grenade and threw it in the direction of the voice.

Once he started throwing, he couldn't stop.

One, two, three, four!

The wall was built along the street. He had just taken a quick glance and the entire street was full of Xiao Heizi. Zhang Wei walked along the wall, continuously throwing grenades. Outside, explosions were constant, and screams rose and fell.

Boom!

A huge roar.

The Xiao Heizi's armored vehicle had fired its cannon.

The man named Tang Pulin was very experienced. As soon as Zhang Wei made his move, he rolled several times to get far away. The few who had served in the military and knew how to use guns also reacted very quickly, finding safe positions before the cannon fired.

The other few were in bad shape. The cannonball hit the side of the wall, blowing a large section of it down. Several people hiding behind it were instantly killed, and those who weren't killed were knocked unconscious.

"Brother, we can't hold this position. Retreat back into the building!"

Tang Pulin fired a few shots towards the main entrance and shouted to Zhang Wei, who was still continuously throwing grenades outside.

Zhang Wei threw grenades out, and people outside threw grenades in.

He ran along the wall, throwing. Some clever Xiao Heizi outside accurately calculated his position and threw several grenades inside.

Zhang Wei was shocked. He kicked two incoming grenades away with two aerial kicks. There were two more that he couldn't avoid. He rolled forward, lay on the ground, and covered his head with his hands, leaving it to fate.

Boom, boom!

Two explosions rang out not far away.

Zhang Wei felt as if he had been struck by lightning. His ears rang constantly, his mind was blank, and he lay on the ground, unconscious.

"Great Hero?"

This was the last sound he heard before losing consciousness.

Zhu Zi was still loyal. Seeing Zhang Wei blown over, he quickly ran over to check on him. He felt for a pulse at his nose and found that Zhang Wei was still alive, but his condition was not good.

His nose and mouth were bleeding uncontrollably from the shock, and his thigh was covered in blood. If left untreated, he would surely die.
