Chapter 107: 32. Giant Lizard Kami and Skin Lizard Xixi
Kami watched as Taraxland was invaded, as Savage Orcs and Forest Goblins began to rampage through the streets, and the Skink-dwellers' army cried out in rebellion. Many of the stones used to build the city walls, carried on his back, were now trampled by the invaders.
Most of the smaller temples near the city walls had been captured, but the largest temple, the pyramid in the center, remained standing. Built by the Old Ones themselves, the Slann lords had pooled their power to create a barrier imbued with mystical power, a circular shield impenetrable to all invaders. The hordes of Chaos demons that invaded thousands of years ago had been thwarted by these magical defenses. Crackling laser beams from the pyramid's summit continuously poured their energy down upon countless invaders.
It took centuries to build, and a single day to destroy. Everything Kami had lived to do, everything he was proud of, everything he loved, was gone.
"fighting!"
These words resurfaced in the mind of the giant lizard Kami, and the battle began again.
Kami, the giant lizard, gripped the massive hammer in his pale, scaly hands. Once a tool for driving piles, it was now a weapon of destructive power, covered in blood and debris. Suddenly, he seemed to understand something: he and the hammer were one, and he was being forced to play a new role.
The monitor lizard Kami felt something pulling at his thigh. He looked down and saw that the skin lizard Xixi, who had been hatched in the same incubation pool with him, had come back at some point and was now looking up at him expectantly.
"My Ancient Saint, Kami, are you okay? We must leave here as soon as possible. Staying here means death."
The monitor lizard Kami looked around again and found that the nearby monitor lizards were looking at him with expectant eyes. The monitor lizards seemed to be eager to be guided and commanded.
In truth, Kami the Kroxikon wasn't very good at thinking, despite his age. When the Skink Xixi had just told him to fight, he'd naturally picked up his hammer and joined in, without a second thought. The other Kroxikons followed his example. When the battle began, he was surrounded by numerous Kroxikons and Skinks, but now he suddenly realized the Skinks had all fled, leaving only his fellow Kroxikons standing.
"They will all die! They will all return to the arms of the ancient saints! We must defend our jobs and this city." The giant lizard Kami said naively.
"The city is lost, Kami," snapped the Skink Xixi. "We should retreat to the rear wards or jungles and fight as best we can there. That's an order! Kami!"
The giant lizard Kami shook his head and said innocently, "Xixi, run, run quickly. We will stay here to defend this city."
Xixi cursed angrily and turned and ran away.
Kami the Giant Lizard had never disobeyed a Skink order before, but seeing the city in such a state, he wanted to stay here and the invaders would be held accountable for the damage they had caused.
Soon, a group of ferocious orcs appeared on the street corner. The giant lizard Kami raised his huge hammer and charged at the giant orcs. The remaining giant lizards followed Kami's example and began to charge.
The spirit lizard Xixi appeared again, and there were more than forty spirit lizards around him.
"If I really leave, you won't be able to hold on for long, you idiot." The skin lizard Xixi said with a smug look on his face, as if he had never run away twice before.
Kami the Kroxigor charged into the Savage Orcs' ranks with a single Death Roll. However, the Kroxigors did not always fight alone. Inspired by the awe-inspiring strength of these powerful creatures, the Skinks summoned by Skink Xixi gathered around the Kroxigors. The Skinks formed a battle line around the Kroxigors' tree-trunk-like legs, while the Kroxigors stood tall among the Skinks, engaging the Savage Orcs. The Kroxigors were also drawn to the Skinks, their high-pitched voices and energetic movements stimulating and igniting their fighting spirit.
In battle, this combination proves highly effective, with the Skinks able to strike their foes with their poison-tipped javelins before charging headfirst into battle. There, the Skinks are responsible for swift assaults, their skittish nature somewhat offset by their sheer numbers. This, in turn, is bolstered by the overwhelming strength provided by the mighty Kroxigors. Due to their immense size, the Kroxigors can easily leap over any Skink line, allowing these reptilian behemoths to tear their prey apart with far greater ease than their cousins.
Kami the Gorillas swung his massive hammer relentlessly, breaking the clubs and stone axes held by the giant Savage Orcs. The battle between the two was a pure contest of strength, but unfortunately the Gorillas were stronger. Kami the Gorillas suddenly wielded the hammer with one hand, tearing apart an attacking Savage Orc, the Skink Lizard Xixi, with his bare left hand. Kami the Gorillas once again swung the massive hammer with both hands.
This massive hammer was chosen by Skink Xixi for Kami. It was taller than a standing Saurus warrior, requiring the combined strength of a dozen Skink Lizards to lift. Kami swung the massive hammer with abandon, and before he knew it, the strongest of the Savage Orcs had been unceremoniously crushed to death by Kami's deadly hammer. He was truly reduced to a green watermelon, tumbling unrecognizable against a street wall.
After dispatching the savage Orc giants, Kami and Xixi arrived at a watering hole, where only a few Saurus warriors remained, still fighting a desperate battle. The Saurus warriors fought with their innate brutal efficiency and primal fury, but they were outnumbered. Perhaps the Saurus had once turned the tide, but now the situation was precarious.
After successfully breaking the siege, the Giant Lizard Kami felt the eyes of the Scarred Lizard Veteran on him. The Scarred Lizard Veteran glanced at the Skink Lizard Xixi again and nodded slightly. Without arguing about leadership, they each picked up their weapons and continued fighting.
The conflict continued and the fighting never stopped. All the lizardmen fell down, only the scarred lizardmen were still struggling to hold on. There were not many skin lizards left, and they either died or fled. The giant lizards were also covered in wounds and surrounded Kami.
The Skin Lizard Xixi lay in the palm of the Giant Lizard Kami, its entire body curled up in the Giant Lizard's palm. He was breathing more in than out and coughing. He had just been hit hard by the Savage Orc's club in the battle.
"Perhaps the jungle would be...a better choice."
The spiritual lizard Xixi coughed violently, and blood spurted out with every cough.
"Maybe."
