Chapter 48 20. The Horse is Gone
After the cold lizards had eaten their fill, Darkus and his group returned to the road in a mighty procession.
At this moment, black smoke could be seen rising from the manor from the high spire of Clarkalond. After seeing Daquus's troops leave, the nobles of other manors sent people to check. The news that the patriarch of the Thorn family had lost two sons gradually spread among the noble circles in the city.
"That's great. No, am I influenced by this guy? Or is it the environment? Joining a group will only make people blind? A mob? A domesticated husky as the wolf pack's leader?"
Darkus looked back at the manor in flames and began to think wildly.
"Ryan, you have another mission."
Ryan glanced back and immediately smiled, "Sir, I understand. Is the view from the river okay?"
Dacus nodded with satisfaction and said, "Well, you understand me."
When Franais heard this, his face changed immediately and he glared at Ryan. Ryan glared at him in return, thinking that he had said the wrong thing.
"Relax."
Today is not a festival day, and there is not a single pedestrian on the road on the south bank of the Red Poison River. Only Daquus's team is walking on the road.
Suddenly, the animal trainer who was scouting in the sky reported that a group of cavalry was coming from behind. After a while, Dacus heard the sound of horse hooves from behind.
Daxus shouted to Walter, "Stop daydreaming! Someone is coming from behind!" Then he picked up the monocular on his belt and started looking.
The ones coming were a group of dark cavalry. The leader saw five powerful men from Daquus blocking the road, so he ordered the team to stop, took out the flag of the Hell Disaster Family, and rode forward alone.
The captain dismounted, holding the banner, and approached. He knelt on one knee outside the Six Swords, pulled out a warrant from his bosom, and said, "Sir! My team is stationed at the forest farm under the orders of Krakalond Valahar. We have come to report to you!"
"What time did you leave?"
"Sir, we'll set off this afternoon!"
Daquus took out his pocket watch and took a look. It was already four o'clock. There were too many slaves and the progress was very slow.
"How many men?"
"Forty dark cavalrymen, ten of them crossbowmen."
Walter turned over and jumped off the Cold Lizard, leaning on his cane sword in his left hand and holding the Knight's Leaf Hammer in his right hand. He walked over, took a look at the warrant, turned around and nodded to Daquus.
"You go to the front and maintain order among the slaves."
"Yes, sir!"
Then the dark cavalry went around and went to the front to suppress the slaves.
It was already dark when we arrived at the forest farm. It was particularly lively that night. Two newly arrived centurions and one of the original centurions were driving slaves to build a base.
The forest farm has a fortress-like structure, similar to a camp, rather than the well-organized layout of the northern forest farms.
The wall of the fortress was six meters high, made of felled black pine. Soldiers would patrol the fortress day and night. The Black Spine Mountains were not like the old forests of the north. Although there were no bronze bulls, no Skaven, and no greenskins in the mountains, there were beastmen, various beasts corrupted by Chaos, and the shadowy figures who had been exiled after failing in the political struggle of Clar Karond.
The village is fully equipped with barracks, slave sheds, warehouses, stables and the chief officer's residence, except for the lack of cellars and cold lizard fences. After all, no Duruchi noble would stay here, and even if they did, they wouldn't need a cellar. There are no cabbages in this damn place.
"Don't sleep tonight! Mobilize these slaves to start digging cellars and building camps. Get the soldiers moving too. Don't sit idle, Edmund! You're in charge."
A crow landed on Dacus's shoulder. He thought for a moment and said, "Franais, you three brothers and sisters, go live in the big room."
Franais said hesitantly, "Sir? This?"
Dacus glanced at him, and Franais nodded. Then he looked at Bainie and said, "Thank you for your hard work tonight. Let Walter stay with you. You two can stay in that room." After saying that, Dacus raised his hand and pointed to a small room.
Bainie nodded woodenly.
"Disband!"
The crow flew away again.
Daxus led the two dinosaurs to the warehouse to spend the night.
The four Scourgewalker chariots commanded by Kalyon and Alyssa also returned. The animal trainers began to spread straw in the warehouse and patched the leaks with wooden boards. Alyssa once again used magic to heat the partitions.
Dacus thought Newker would give some instructions, such as what was done well or what was done too much, but there were no instructions at all. Dacus understood that the fire could continue to burn.
After a simple dinner, the soldiers moved Dacus's personal belongings into the house because the stables needed to accommodate the horses. He didn't want to find all the horses gone when he woke up the next morning. He ordered the five cold lizards into his room.
The house is not big and the furnishings are spacious. The layout of the home furnishings is very creative and thoughtful. You can see the bed and everything inside the house from the door.
The roof has a spire structure, with beams arranged in a cross shape and no ceiling. There are four mirrors on top, and you can see the top of the beams through the mirrors from any angle inside the house.
"Hey, it stinks."
After entering the house, Daxus checked the injuries of the five cold lizards. After finding no problems, he wanted to play with the five cold lizards for a while, but the big guy stood in front of the other cold lizards, so he had no choice but to play with the big guy.
After playing for a while and preparing the repeating crossbow and flintlock rifle, Daquus, lying on the bed, smelled the pungent smell of blood and the faint stench of the cold lizard, and fell asleep directly.
The next day, Daxus was woken up by the big guy. He opened his pocket watch and saw that it was only six o'clock.
I glanced at the big guy leaning against the bed, wagging his tail vigorously.
Dacus touched the big guy's front claw and said, "Are you hungry?"
The big guy nodded expectantly. Darkus reluctantly turned over and sat up, touching its head.
"Are you a pig?"
Without even washing his face, Daxus led the five cold lizards out of the door. Kalyon and the trainers had already prepared food for the cold lizards. He spoke to the big guy for a long time, telling it not to bite people.
All the slaves and soldiers off duty throughout the forest were mobilized to dig cellars, pickaxes clanging and swishing. Fortunately, this was on the edge of the Black Ridge Mountains, with several active volcanoes erupting year-round, so the ground was still digable. In Grond, this would be unthinkable.
Daxus had done nothing all morning but tend to these five ancestors. There was no place to keep them, and the reins wouldn't hold them. If he didn't watch them, the cold lizards would run wild in the forest, biting anyone they could, and he had so many potions to apply to them.
By the afternoon, the hole was halfway done. The ceiling was covered with purplish-blue glowing crystals of an unknown material, giving the atmosphere a sudden cyberpunk vibe. The digging continued inside, ensuring the cellar had two openings large enough for dinosaurs to pass through, just in case.
Darkus began to guide the five cold lizards and dinosaurs into the cellar breeding room.
