Chapter 10: So why

The extras on stage were almost in position, with only the spot representing “i” left empty.

The white paper was exceptionally glaring under the lights.

Zhao Menghua grew anxious. Why was Lu Mingfei taking so long to change his clothes?

If he delayed any longer, Chen Wenwen might figure out his intentions, and then without the surprise, the effect of his confession would be discounted.

He stomped his foot and walked towards the restroom.

Worried that Lu Mingfei might be halfway through changing, Zhao Menghua didn’t push the door open directly but urged from outside:

“Lu Mingfei, are you ready? Everyone’s waiting for you.”

“Coming!”

Lu Mingfei replied, wiping away the steam from the mirror, along with the words.

He sneered, Zhao Menghua was truly eager for him to make a fool of himself as soon as possible.

With one hand, he tossed the clothes Zhao Menghua gave him into the trash, while with the other, he smoothly put on the high-end suit he bought yesterday.

He hadn’t intended to make things so awkward; a hard-won graduation party should be harmonious.

But Zhao Menghua was truly not a decent person.

After discussing with his senior sister Chen Motong how to proceed.

Lu Mingfei walked into the projection room and immediately felt many eyes turn towards him.

Each person seemed to have seen something incredible, crying out in surprise.

“Is that… Lu Mingfei?”

“Why does he look so pleasing to the eye today?”

“No, don’t you guys think Lu Mingfei looks a bit handsome?”

The dozen or so Literary Club members, who were sitting in their respective spots drinking cola and eating popcorn, exclaimed in astonishment, while Lu Mingfei’s expression remained normal.

“Clothes make the man, literally. I’ve seen that suit; it seems more expensive than the one Zhao Menghua is wearing,” someone whispered.

Zhao Menghua stood nearby, also in a high-end suit. Hearing this, he looked displeased but, thinking of what was to come, he didn’t react for now.

“Class monitor, nice suit.” Lu Mingfei smiled as he scrutinized Zhao Menghua. Indeed, it wasn’t on the same level as the suit he had been given.

“It’s a graduation party, so I dressed a bit more formally.”

With so many eyes on Lu Mingfei and Zhao Menghua, Zhao Menghua couldn’t mock Lu Mingfei further and could only speak politely.

Lu Mingfei glanced at Chen Wenwen. Sure enough, it was because Chen Wenwen was looking that Zhao Menghua was acting somewhat decent.

Zhao Menghua truly looked down on him.

“Alright, everyone’s waiting for your speech. Go on up quickly.” Zhao Menghua didn’t want to talk to Lu Mingfei anymore and said hastily.

Lu Mingfei, however, shook his head, “Everyone isn’t waiting for my speech; you’re eager to give a speech to someone.”

“Me?” Zhao Menghua hadn’t expected Lu Mingfei to say that, and a bad feeling arose in his heart.

He squinted at Xu YanYan on the stage, who quickly waved his hands, indicating he hadn’t said anything.

“Lu Mingfei, what do you mean?”

His phone in his pocket suddenly vibrated, and Lu Mingfei ignored Zhao Menghua.

He just said loudly:

“Senior Sister!”

Then, the lights in the cinema private room suddenly dimmed, leaving only the white copy paper on the stage exceptionally clear.

Zhao Menghua turned pale with fright. How could it start now?!

A strong light shone on the white paper, and images began to appear on the screen behind the many extras.

Zhao Menghua was so anxious he bit his fingernails, quickly fumbling for his phone to call the projectionist, but it rang for a long time without anyone answering.

Out of the corner of his eye, he caught sight of Lu Mingfei’s calm expression, and an incredible thought suddenly popped into his head.

Lu Mingfei did it!

But how was that possible!

Zhao Menghua suddenly wanted to grab Lu Mingfei by the collar and ask what on earth Lu Mingfei had done.

But at that moment, a chorus of boos erupted from below the stage.

Zhao Menghua was instantly filled with despair. It was too late; everything was ruined.

His meticulously planned confession ceremony...

A line of text prominently appeared on the screen.

“Chen Wenwen, Love, You!”

Only a subject was missing, and in the place of that subject, there was a pristine white copy paper.

Everyone immediately understood whose handiwork this was. From the moment they entered the cinema, only Zhao Menghua had been directing and bustling about.

As for Lu Mingfei, no one believed he had the guts to confess to Chen Wenwen in this setting.

“Lu Mingfei!”

Zhao Menghua suddenly roared, his anger rushing straight at Lu Mingfei.

Lu Mingfei also said coldly, “Zhao Menghua!”

He glared at Zhao Menghua, filled with anger.

“You ask what I mean, I also want to ask what you mean!”

In the darkness, their fierce words echoed, and the people in their seats held their breath.

No one had expected Lu Mingfei to actually have the guts to go against Zhao Menghua. Normally, if Zhao Menghua told Lu Mingfei to go west, Lu Mingfei would never go east.

Now that such a scene had unfolded at the graduation party, everyone had a premonition that this might be more entertaining than the movie later.

Lu Mingfei’s body grew cold inch by inch, from his toes to his throat, until his lips and teeth, until deep within his skull, until the roots of his hair that had fallen out from diligently writing his graduation speech.

He looked at Zhao Menghua, and Zhao Menghua stared back at him.

Both their eyes held flames of fury, ready to consume the other.

They had never been so confrontational before. Lu Mingfei had never been confrontational with anyone.

He had long been accustomed to submitting.

But today, he simply didn’t want to.

He got into Kassel College, which Zhao Menghua couldn’t get into.

He got into Kassel College, the same one as Chu Zihang.

He had finally gained recognition; why should he let someone trample on him at this moment?

“What do I mean?” Zhao Menghua’s voice was distorted. “My meaning is written clearly on the screen!”

He had made thorough preparations, just waiting for Lu Mingfei to be tricked onto the stage to take his position and give the speech.

At that time, the lights and music would cooperate with him, and he would hold a bouquet of dark red roses and confess to the girl he deeply loved, under the gaze of all.

But now, everything was ruined by this unlucky guy named Lu Mingfei.

He didn’t understand why Lu Mingfei was going crazy at this moment. Wouldn’t it be better if he just behaved as usual?

“Your meaning?”

Lu Mingfei looked at Zhao Menghua’s face, which showed no hint of having done anything wrong, and his lips trembled.

A violent ringing in his ears started; at this moment, he couldn’t hear any other sounds. The entire cinema was left with just him and Zhao Menghua in confrontation.

“Why should I express your meaning?!”

He suddenly stepped forward, his fierce gaze piercing into Zhao Menghua’s eyes.

“Tell me, why didn’t you go yourself for the lowercase ‘i’?”

“Tell me, do you know that I used to like Chen Wenwen?”

“Tell me, did you specifically use the excuse of a speech to trick me onto the stage?!”

Lu Mingfei’s sharp shouts were like heavy hammers pounding in Zhao Menghua’s head and on everyone’s eardrums present.

“Come on, tell me, were you deliberately playing a trick on me, so eager to get me on stage?!”

“You wanted others to see that Lu Mingfei is nothing but a circus monkey!”

“Tell me!”

“Is that it?!”

Zhao Menghua was startled by Lu Mingfei’s sudden advance. Amidst Lu Mingfei’s repeated questions, he only heard one “Tell me” after another.

Since birth, he had never been questioned like this, no one had ever yelled at him like this.

With a fierce look in his eyes, he suddenly raised his head and said loudly:

“So what if it is?!”

“You, Lu Mingfei, are born without a mother, raised without a father, aren’t you just a monkey that popped out of a rock?”

In an instant, the entire venue fell into dead silence.

With a loud “bang,” Lu Mingfei’s hand shot up, and the crisp sound of a slap resounded.

“My family is not for you to criticize, you,” Lu Mingfei bit his tongue, spitting out a furious word with the force of expelling thick phlegm.

“Bastard!”

Astonishing rage surged from his pupils in an instant. Because of his anger, his pupils even glowed with a faint golden hue!

His entire body’s blood boiled with heat!
