Chapter 18: The eternal ribbon

“Professor Guderian,” Lu Mingfei pushed open the study door and saw Professor Guderian still inside, greeting him politely.

“Mingfei! You actually walked all the way here?” Guderian quickly approached Lu Mingfei, circling him and examining him.

“You’re not hurt, are you? It’s been quite fierce outside. Our school isn’t usually like this; it’s just a special day today, a ‘Free Day’.”

“Fingel senior brother told me, so I specifically waited until it quieted down outside before coming out,” Lu Mingfei nodded.

“That’s good, that’s good,” Professor Guderian showed a relieved expression.

Lu Mingfei quickly picked up the conversation. He needed to clear himself of the fact that he had double-killed Chu Zihang and Caesar, so he needed to get to the point quickly.

“I wonder what alchemy product you were talking about, Professor?”

Guderian slapped his forehead, “I was so nervous, I forgot I still had something to show you.”

He took Lu Mingfei’s hand and walked to the table.

Lu Mingfei saw a middle-aged man with “I am Japanese” written on his face standing behind the table, with three black briefcases in front of him, with silver metal edges, looking quite sturdy.

Seeing Lu Mingfei approach, he respectfully bowed to Lu Mingfei and introduced himself in fluent Chinese:

“My name is Fuyama Masashi, and I work as a psychological counseling instructor. I am very pleased to meet our S-rank freshman. It’s been over forty years since an S-rank freshman was seen in the school.”

“Is that so? Besides the school, are there S-ranks elsewhere?”

Lu Mingfei caught the key geographical description, and combined with what the train conductor said earlier, he was somewhat curious about the true level of those big shots at his same level.

“There are a few in the Execution Department, and also among the school’s upper management. As everyone knows, our principal Angers is an S-rank,” Fuyama Masashi said very frankly.

“Execution Department?”

“It’s where most students work after graduation. Didn’t anyone tell you when you enrolled that our school also provides jobs?” Fuyama Masashi said.

“The job isn’t just dragon-slaying, is it?” Lu Mingfei asked. If so, then in a sense, Professor Guderian had indeed told him.

“Mostly, yes. A small portion is responsible for intelligence and logistics, and some return to school to become teachers and professors,” Fuyama Masashi pointed to himself.

“That’s not bad.”

Lu Mingfei breathed a sigh of relief. When he graduated, he could just apply for a teaching position or logistics. This school wouldn’t be so inhumane as to make students go slay dragons, right?

“You indeed have great potential to become an ace of the Execution Department,” Fuyama Masashi nodded. “Perhaps you can ask Professor Guderian to introduce you to Professor Schneider.”

“That won’t be necessary,” Professor Guderian refused.

It sounds like Professor Guderian and Professor Schneider don’t get along well? Lu Mingfei thought to himself.

“We’ve brought three items to prove the existence of dragons,” Fuyama Masashi opened the first briefcase with a password and fingerprint.

A piece of black scale appeared in the sight of the three.

【Dragon Scale】

Lu Mingfei was once again enlightened.

The dragon scale was about half the size of a palm, perfectly shield-shaped, with a surface as smooth as if freshly oiled.

“You can touch it,” Fuyama Masashi said.

Only then did Lu Mingfei carefully pick up the dragon scale. The texture felt a bit fake, like steel, cold and tough, but it was very light, similar to plastic. The edges were sharp enough to cut a finger with slight pressure, reminding Lu Mingfei of the edges of high school mock exam papers.

At this moment, Fuyama Masashi placed something into his palm.

Lu Mingfei was stunned; it was actually a pistol.

Damn it, he had just used a sniper rifle, and luckily it hadn’t turned into a useless stick. Now he had to use a pistol. Did they actually see him use the sniper rifle?

Lu Mingfei was suspicious.

But Fuyama Masashi only introduced the origin and power of the gun, and motioned for him to shoot the scale in his hand.

At the same time, Fuyama Masashi and Guderian both covered their ears. “Don’t worry, just shoot. It doesn’t matter if you miss, you can try a few more times.”

Lu Mingfei relaxed. The feeling of sniping just now hadn’t faded. He squinted slightly, aiming the crosshairs at the dragon scale.

A deafening roar.

Even though Lu Mingfei dug his feet into the ground, he still recoiled half a foot.

He hadn’t felt such a strong recoil even when he was sniping just now!

“His physical strength is quite good,” Fuyama Masashi’s eyes lit up. “To have this level without training, it seems our S-rank has a lot of room for improvement.”

“You actually let him try something from the Equipment Department!” Professor Guderian complained.

“Don’t easily use things those madmen modified!”

“I was just curious if its power could threaten a purebred dragon,” Fuyama Masashi apologized.

Lu Mingfei exhaled slowly, noticing that the dragon scale in front of him showed no change, not even a single mark.

His shot just now had definitely hit the center of the dragon scale.

A gun comparable to an autocannon couldn’t even penetrate that dragon scale.

It seems dragons are even more terrifying than he imagined.

“This is a dragon scale, discovered in the ancient city of Loulan. As one of the pieces of evidence, do you believe it a bit more now?”

Lu Mingfei nodded; he actually already believed it.

Whether it was the text prompts, or Lu Mingze, or Chu Zihang’s golden eyes, they all gave him quite a shock.

Coupled with the recent dragon scale prompt and Fuyama Masashi’s confirmation, he had confirmed that everything so far was incredibly real.

Including dragons.

Fuyama Masashi and Professor Guderian exchanged glances, surprised by Lu Mingfei’s reaction.

Generally, mixed-bloods like Lu Mingfei, who are not from a family background, wouldn’t accept the existence of dragons so quickly.

Professor Guderian recalled Shuhtome Yaji’s interview record. Could it be that he had really awakened his Rune already?

He thought uneasily that if he, who personally interviewed Lu Mingfei, couldn’t even confirm this point, he could be accused of dereliction of duty.

But soon he breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, he had no mortal enemies in the academy, so no one would accuse him.

“Next is the second piece of evidence,” Fuyama Masashi said. The necessary procedures still had to be followed.

Fuyama Masashi lightly raised both hands, and a double-layered glass appeared in front of Lu Mingfei, inside which was sealed a section of curved white ribbon that looked about five or six meters long.

【Never-decaying Ribbon】

Lu Mingfei was enlightened.

“What is this?” He had been prepared for it to be an arm or leg from a dragon’s body, but what appeared before him was a section of seemingly very ordinary ribbon.

“A ribbon from a mummy, an alchemy product we discovered in a pyramid.”

“According to relevant investigations, that pyramid has existed for at least two thousand years. After the Execution Department entered that pyramid, they immediately encountered a wandering mummy, successfully defeated it, and brought back this section of ribbon.”

Fuyama Masashi took out a test report from the box:

“Researchers conducted an age test on it, and the results showed that it was only about a year old!”
