Chapter 24: meeting room

After sitting in the conference room with Lin Fan for a while, the director arrived.

When Lin Fan first met the director, he thought he was just an ordinary man in his 50s. Not too fat, not too thin, not too tall, not too short, a bit handsome, smiling, and very kind.

His smile is similar to John Woo's, but also a little different.

John Woo's smile is very friendly and can easily bring people closer; the director's smile makes her feel at ease, like Maitreya Buddha, as if as long as he is there, no danger will happen and there will be no situation that cannot be solved.

And maybe because of his youth, John Woo's smile changes from time to time, and sometimes disappears. The director's smile is like a mask engraved on his face, as if it will not change even if the sky falls.

"Hello, Lin Fan, I'm the director of the Special Affairs Office, my name is Zhu Cunjun." The director greeted Lin Fan as soon as he came in. Perhaps because he knew Lin Fan's problem, he didn't get too close, but kept a distance.

Lin Fan was not afraid that he was a leader, so he did not say anything and just nodded slightly.

Wu Yusen thought back to the first time he met Lin Fan. Lin Fan was silent, clearly unwilling to interact with strangers. It took him a few days of interaction before he finally got Lin Fan to speak.

Jin Sichen walked in behind the director and noticed Lin Fan's behavior. She secretly noted that Lin Fan kept a social distance from strangers. She was probably so cooperative yesterday because of his identity as a psychologist.

Xue Ping followed behind. After he came back from cleaning up, he figured someone might be looking for him, so he stayed in the office. Sure enough, while he was napping, the phone rang.

Wang Fengfeng had also arrived. He'd been the one who'd investigated Lin Fan's case, and he was quite familiar with him, plus his skills were impeccable. For matters involving Lin Fan, it was better to approach him directly than to find a stranger to take over.

There was another person Lin Fan had never met before. He was the equipment team leader, Zong Cheng. He was a scholarly man in his early 40s. His hair was a bit gray, and he was tall and thin. His brows were always furrowed, as if he was always angry.

Several people took their seats one after another. John Woo went forward to check the doors, windows and other places where they could be seen to ensure the safety of the environment. He turned on the access control system at the door, and the conference room instantly became a secret room. No one could hear any movement inside from the outside.

"We've gathered everyone today regarding Lin Fan," the director spoke first. "Some of you already know Lin Fan or are quite familiar with him, but some don't. Xiao Wu, please give us a brief introduction."

"Yes, Director." John Woo stood up, walked to the front of the conference table, turned on the projector, and began his introduction.

"The cause of the incident was the fighter jet crash ten days ago. The pilot and the plane were both safe and sound." As soon as he finished speaking, a short video of the crash began playing on the projector. Wang Fengfeng was sitting in his seat, helping him demonstrate the relevant information.

Everyone present except Zong Cheng has seen this short video, but he is the only one who watched it most carefully.

"As a low-probability event, this incident was originally just a source of heated public opinion, and it will be over once the hype dies down."

"But a week ago, the military contacted the director and said that when the pilot parachuted out, he saw someone carrying the plane away. And the plane did not crash. Apart from some scratches on the nose, the outer shell was almost intact."

Wang Fengfeng also showed military photos of the aircraft and close-ups of the collision site. Jin Sichen and the others, who had no access to these internal documents, read them very attentively.

"How could the plane crash with just such a small amount of collision? It's obviously abnormal," said Zong Cheng.

Wu Yusen nodded in agreement. "Yes, it's abnormal. So after the military conducted a psychological assessment and polygraph test on the pilot, they suspected someone with special abilities and passed their suspicions to us."

"After reviewing surveillance footage and calculating various data, we discovered that according to its normal trajectory, the plane should not have landed at the location in the photo, but rather in the XX residential complex about a kilometer ahead."

The projector then displayed the aircraft trajectory map and landing point data.

Zong Cheng looked at it carefully, wrote and drew on paper with a pen to make sure the data was correct.

"This is the XX residential complex where Lin Fan lives. We checked the surveillance footage and found that everyone was on camera during the time of the incident. Only Lin Fan disappeared from the surveillance footage for almost seven hours before reappearing."

"As the only suspect, I believe she is very likely the person we're looking for, someone with the ability to fly and immense strength. The likelihood is very high. With this in mind, I began contacting Lin Fan four days ago."

Jin Sichen didn't know this part and listened carefully.

"Thanks to my detailed investigation of Lin Fan, I quickly found her." Lin Fan's resume appeared on the projector. "She has suffered from severe depression for many years. She lives alone and has almost no social life. Her physical and mental state are not very good."

Upon hearing this, Xue Ping and Zong Cheng glanced at Lin Fan inconspicuously, then quickly looked away.

Lin Fan had kept his head down since Wu Yusen started talking, and no one knew what he was thinking.

"Lin Fan has no memory of what happened that afternoon. She speculated that he fainted from heatstroke, but I think that's unreasonable."

"It took me three days to get her to agree to come back for the test, knowing that she never believed she had superpowers. She felt that if she had superpowers, she wouldn't have been so confused and sick for so many years."

"I started the new employee process yesterday morning. Both the medical department and the ability test were fine. Mr. Qian also gave me a pair of earrings that can suppress negative emotions and prevent people from going crazy."

Except for Jin Sichen and Wu Yusen, everyone couldn't help but look at Lin Fan. Sure enough, there was a pair of black earrings on her earlobes, small and delicate, not attracting much attention.

Everyone's eyes were filled with envy because of the gifts given by Mr. Qian.

"Then we went to Jin Sichen's place. He spoke with Lin Fan and gained a brief understanding of her condition. After testing, he concluded that Lin Fan had no other significant psychological symptoms besides simple depression and a physical disorder. He also ruled out any destabilizing factors such as antisocial tendencies and violent aggression."

"But when we tried to hypnotize her to recall the memory she had forgotten that afternoon, we encountered a problem. Jin Sichen's hypnosis failed."

Everyone looked at Jin Sichen in disbelief.

Everyone knows that Jin Sichen is invincible in hypnosis, how could he fail?

Jin Sichen accepted everyone's gaze with an expressionless face. He was also helpless.

"Not only did the technical hypnosis fail, but the talent hypnosis also failed twice."

Everyone was even more surprised, looking back and forth between Jin Sichen and Lin Fan.

"After that, we found two other psychologists to hypnotize Lin Fan, but they all failed without exception. So after the whole process, Lin Fan's body was normal, and the forgotten memories were not found. We initially determined that she might be immune to hypnosis."

"After reporting the above situation to the director, he issued the order to have Lin Fan sign a confidentiality agreement and be sent back first. He will be kept under surveillance until another method of erasing his memory is found in a few days."

"Could it be the effect of his earrings?" Zong Cheng asked. He was always sensitive about equipment.

"Based on what Elder Qian said about the function, it shouldn't be. After all, even Elder Qian himself can't resist Jin Sichen..."

"Hmm..." The director interrupted with a cough. "I've asked Mr. Qian about this. He'll be here in person later. Please continue."

Wu Yusen also realized that what he said was inappropriate and quickly avoided the topic. "Last night, I drove Lin Fan home. We had lunch at the service area around 9 o'clock. Just as I was about to get in the car, a heavy truck with out-of-control brakes appeared at the entrance and rushed in at full speed."

"The driver tried to avoid hitting the gas station, so he swerved and rushed towards us at an extremely high speed. I thought I was doomed, but Lin Fan transformed and stopped the car."

Lin Fan blinked, still not looking up. He thought, "Something's really wrong."

"What has happened?" Mr. Qian's voice suddenly rang out in the conference room.

Then a hole appeared next to the door of the conference room, and Mr. Qian stepped into the conference room from inside.

He saw the conference room was sealed off from outside, but he didn't call out for help. He just broke through the barrier and walked in. It was more convenient than opening and closing the barrier from the inside. After all, he was the one who set the barrier in the first place.

Except for Lin Fan, everyone else stood up and greeted Mr. Qian.

Elder Qian waved his hand. He was more concerned about Lin Fan's situation. He had clearly investigated and found that Lin Fan had no spiritual roots and his bones were not good. How could he still transform? This didn't make sense!

"It has transformed into a mecha." John Woo finally finished speaking and breathed a sigh of relief.

“Mecha!!!”

Zong Cheng, Wang Fengfeng and Xue Ping jumped up as soon as they sat down, and even Jin Sichen couldn't help but open his mouth wide.

Only Mr. Qian was confused. "What is a mecha?"

No one knew how to explain the concept of mecha to Mr. Qian. Wang Fengfeng was quick to act and put some pictures of mechas he had hidden on the projector.

"What kind of supernatural power is this?" Old Qian looked at it for a while and asked with a frown.

No one can explain it clearly!

If you say it's not a superpower, she can transform. If you say she has superpowers, the method is wrong.

"What kind of mecha did she transform into?" Zong Cheng, the head of the scientific research equipment team and a fan of technological products, asked anxiously. "Are there any images?"

"Yes, but it's very unclear." John Woo replied, and Wang Fengfeng released the photo that was still blurry after restoration.

"..." What is this all about? Everyone complained in their hearts.

"Xiao Wang, play the entire video again." Seeing that everyone was speechless, the director asked everyone to play the dynamic video.

"Okay, Director." Wang Fengfeng played the video as instructed and explained, "Due to the angle, none of the other cameras captured any useful footage. This was the only video captured by the truck's dashcam."

"But because the cab of the heavy truck was high, they barely managed to capture the scene in front of the vehicle. Furthermore, the camera was old and had low resolution. The headlights were very bright, and the mecha's shell was reflective, so the final image was far from ideal."

A group of people watched the video in silence, and finally stopped at the blurry image that was completely indecipherable. Only then did they realize that the picture just shown was indeed a little clearer - at least they could make out a human figure.

But one can only make out a human figure, which seems far from enough to be considered as strong evidence.

Mr. Qian stared at the projection silently, and his knowledge was also broadened.

"Lin Fan, what do you say?" When everyone was immersed in the picture, the director was the first to notice that Lin Fan had raised his head and was looking at the projection.

She still had her eyes half-closed, looking somewhat exhausted. Even though everyone was looking at her, her face remained expressionless.

"have no idea."

"What do you remember about the situation at that time? Can you tell us about it?" Jin Sichen asked.

Lin Fan tilted his head slightly to the left and replied, "I just remember finishing my meal with John Woo and getting ready to get in the car. When I got to the front of the car, I heard the sound of a speeding truck. I thought it was unusual and told John Woo about it."

"Yes, she did. But I thought it was normal for trucks to drive fast on the highway at the time, so I didn't take it seriously," John Woo continued.

"So what Lin Fan heard was the sound of the out-of-control truck that was some distance away from the service area, but you didn't hear it?" Xue Ping asked.

Wu Yusen thought about it and it seemed to be true: "Yes."

"That is to say, Lin Fan's hearing is better than yours, or more sensitive than that of ordinary people." Wang Fengfeng continued.

I just saw a short video of actor Xiu Qing. His smile fits my image of the smiling tiger director. But the director was originally set to be an ordinary uncle, not as handsome as him (*^▽^*)
