Chapter 30: Lin Fan's value

"Director, let me go!" John Woo spoke first.

Xue Ping also expressed his willingness to accompany him.

Wang Fengfeng also raised his hand and expressed his willingness to go. After all, he was a hacker, and all he needed was a computer and an internet connection, so it didn't matter where he went.

Jin Sichen didn't express his opinion, but looked at everything in front of him leisurely.

Zong Cheng didn't express his opinion. He was engaged in instrument research, and if he moved to another place, his work would be blocked. He simply didn't want to join in the fun.

The director looked at the three people who had signed up so enthusiastically and smiled even more broadly. "Xue Ping, don't go. I have other things to do for you. Xiao Wang, you don't have to go either. You can't even protect yourself with your physique. There's no point in going."

Although Wang Fengfeng is tall, he is thin and has not exercised for a long time. If a special situation occurs, he will have no way to protect Lin Fan.

"Xiao Wu, you must go, but after you send Lin Fan there, you can't stay there to accompany her. You need to come back to find out Lin Fan's situation in detail." The director assigned a task to John Woo.

"I suspect her transformation into a mecha wasn't innate, but rather stemmed from some other opportunity. As someone who knows Lin Fan best, you need to dig deeper into her past to find this opportunity."

"Then who will accompany Lin Fan?" asked John Woo.

The only person not mentioned was Zong Cheng and Jin Sichen, and it was only Mr. Qian. It was definitely impossible for Mr. Qian to be mentioned, so everyone focused their attention on Jin Sichen.

Jin Sichen smiled brightly. He had expected this a long time ago.

"Let Sichen go. Firstly, he holds a high-ranking position and is an internationally renowned psychologist, so his status carries a certain weight. Regardless of his status, no one will touch him easily, and his words carry more weight."

"Secondly, Sichen's combat firearms are pretty good. While not up to your special forces' standards, they're no problem dealing with ordinary people. The 800 are mostly weak researchers, so they should have no problem protecting Lin Fan in an emergency."

The director took a sip of water and continued, "Thirdly, Sichen's rehabilitation plan for Lin Fan is to provide her with psychological treatment in a relatively safe environment. I've checked with 800, and they happen to have a suitable environment."

"Lin Fan is relatively familiar with him. He's accompanying Lin Fan. On the one hand, he can serve as a companion for Lin Fan. After all, it's a completely unfamiliar place, and having someone familiar around will make it easier for Lin Fan to adjust psychologically. On the other hand, this is a good opportunity to treat her."

"Did Cui Yan agree just like that?"

"Him! Through this interaction, I've gotten to know his working style. He agreed quite readily, suggesting that when Sichen isn't treating Lin Fan, he should provide guidance to the 800 psychologists. He said it was an academic exchange, huh? Who doesn't know what that means?"

The director's eyes gleamed. "I might as well ask my superiors to let Sichen guide and assist the psychotherapists at the 800 Institute during his time there. Having a world-class psychologist serve the 800 research team will demonstrate the friendship between our sister organizations. This will also allow Cui Yan to pay him a salary, giving Sichen some extra income."

Everyone laughed out loud.

Aren't you going to force Jin Sichen to work? Then do it. Not only will the higher-ups know about our high-minded and supportive Special Affairs Office, but you'll also have to pay them. I wonder what Cui Yan's expression was like when he received the notice.

"If that guy does something, even if Jin Sichen can't handle it himself, he can at least delay it for a while and notify us in time so that we don't have to be left in the dark." Xue Ping concluded.

"So Sichen's mission this time is quite heavy: accompany and treat Lin Fan, protect her; guide 800 psychologists, and solve the mental health problems of 800 scientific researchers; beware of Cui Yan's evil hands, and keep in touch with me. Looking at it this way, the mission seems to be quite troublesome. What do you think? Sichen, do you want to accept it?" The director asked with a smile.

Jin Sichen leaned back in his chair with his arms folded across his chest, and said to the director with a cynical smile, "I promise to complete the task."

The most worrying problem was solved and everyone felt relieved.

The director looked at Lin Fan, who had remained expressionless, and said with a smile, "Lin Fan, although we've only just met, I hope to spend more time with you. But as you can see, the Special Affairs Institute is truly unable to conduct mecha research."

"Whether out of responsibility for your personal safety or the realization of your value, we can only send you to a place that has mecha research to further confirm your transformation."

"But don't be afraid. We won't tolerate any actions that endanger your safety. Just focus on your treatment and cooperate with their reasonable research. Everyone in the circle knows that our special agency is particularly protective of its members. We have all kinds of tricks up our sleeves, so don't dare to mess with us easily."

"Although the trip to the 800 Aviation Research Institute is full of unknowns, I promise to do my utmost to protect your personal safety. Do you have any questions or requests? Feel free to ask."

A group of people waited for Lin Fan to speak. Lin Fan thought blankly for a long time: "My value?"

"Of course!" the director affirmed. "Don't you know how valuable you are?"

Lin Fan slowly shook his head. She had wasted so many years, she felt like she was just wasting air, and now they were saying she had value.

She clearly knew the value of the mecha transformation, but found it difficult to equate it with herself.

The director exchanged a glance with Jin Sichen, seeing him taking notes with understanding. He then smiled and said to Lin Fan, "Your current value can be said to be unique. Just the uniqueness of your mecha transformation is unmatched. At least, we haven't heard of anyone else like you."

A group of people realized that Lin Fan really had no confidence in himself, and they all spoke to comfort him.

"If you hadn't held up the crashed fighter jet and placed it in a safe area, the accident would have caused at least 50 casualties. This is the minimum number of casualties calculated based on previous accident data and local residents' living conditions. In other words, your presence saved at least 50 lives, not counting property losses such as damaged houses." Wang Fengfeng spoke first.

"And that fighter jet now costs as much as $110 million. You prevented it from crashing, so the country doesn't need to spend another $110 million to buy a new plane. It only needs to do some repairs. This is the value you created!" Wang Fengfeng is good at speaking with data.

"If it weren't for you, I would have been hit by a truck that night. If I had been unlucky, I might not be here anymore. Lin Fan, you saved my life. You are valuable and you are important." John Woo spoke.

"I don't know the principle behind stopping a truck and instantly stopping its engine. But there aren't many people who can do this, not to mention that you can fly while lifting a plane weighing dozens of tons. If you can control the transformation and manipulate the mecha freely, you can save more disasters. Imagine a plane crash or a shipwreck. If you lift up the entire plane or ship and fly away, how many lives and properties can be saved? How much energy would that require? How can you be worthless?" Xue Ping was both curious and envious of Lin Fan. He wished he could also transform into a mecha and save people from all kinds of crises.

Zong Cheng also persuaded him, "From a scientific research perspective, your emergence may mark a new milestone in mechanical engineering. 800 researchers will be inspired by your mecha and develop more mechas or aircraft. This will be crucial for national development, aerospace technology, and even military strength. You certainly have value, and it's enormous, epoch-making value."

"Little friend Lin, I don't understand mechas." Elder Qian also spoke slowly, "But we have a connection. I know you have a kind character and a strong mind, but you are trapped in the chaos of the Niwan. Therefore, I have given you a treasure to maintain your clarity. Don't underestimate yourself and damage your foundation."

"Lin Fan, you see, everyone says that you are valuable and a very useful person. You will be able to make a lot of money in the future and will no longer be a burden to your family or society. Can you give up the idea of seeking death before?" John Woo spoke immediately.

He suddenly remembered that when they signed the contract at Lin Fan's house, Lin Fan showed special concern for the compensation. He thought at the time that Lin Fan wanted to exchange his life for the compensation, but he just didn't find the right opportunity at the Special Affairs Office.

If she hadn't transformed herself and stopped the truck, she might have been more interested in getting hit by the car and having an accident.

"What's going on?" The director didn't know what was going on.

"She's been ill for years and hasn't recovered, relying on her parents for support. She feels completely useless and worthless, like even being alive is a waste of air," Jin Sichen said. "But she can't commit suicide because she's worried about her parents. So, her emotions cycle endlessly between the pain of her illness, the self-blame for not being able to recover, and the guilt for being a burden to her parents."

"When John Woo found her, he must have mentioned the compensation. She thought that if she died in the special agency, her family would receive a large sum of money. It was the last thing she could do for her family in her useless life."

Lin Fan looked up at Jin Sichen. This person was like a worm in her stomach. She was obviously not familiar with him.

"Lin Fan, is that so?" The director's smiling face turned a little serious.

"Yes. When John Woo approached me, I had this in mind. I've been living in agony these past few years, unable to live or die. Rather than dragging the elderly along without knowing when it will end, it's better to free them and even get a windfall."

Lin Fan admitted it immediately, then fell silent for a moment before adding, "I'm sorry."

Her guilt came from wanting to use her death to get money from the Special Affairs Office to compensate her family, but how innocent was the Special Affairs Office?

"Lin Fan, don't feel guilty. Nothing happened, did it?" Jin Sichen said softly. "Don't feel sad about something that didn't happen. From now on, don't suppress yourself or blame yourself. You're already fine. You're the one and only Lin Fan in this world. You're fine, so do what you want to do. Don't be afraid. I'll take care of you."

"Yes, we'll cover for you," the director said, not saying much after seeing Jin Sichen speak. "People outside say that we at the Special Affairs Office are arrogant and domineering. Hahahaha, Lin Fan, you can learn from them. Don't be afraid. If Sichen can't cover for me, I'm here for you."

The director also saw that Lin Fan wasn't inherently bad, lacking any antisocial or violent tendencies. Even Elder Qian had spoken out in affirmation of her good character, which was why he dared to make such a promise. Apologizing for even the slightest thought was indeed overly cautious.

"I..." Lin Fan didn't know what to say for a moment. She felt her heart was heavy and she couldn't breathe. Her nose felt a little sore, but her eyes were dry and painful.

"Lin Fan, you are a good person. Just be yourself." Jin Sichen knew that this was a manifestation of Lin Fan's extreme lack of self-confidence and encouraged him silently.

Lin Fan looked at the smiling faces of the people and the kindness in their eyes, not knowing what to do, and nodded silently again.
