Chapter 24: three-pronged sword

The Wizard Alliance Investigation Bureau, abbreviated as the Wizard Union Investigation Bureau, is the law enforcement department directly under the Wizard Council. Because its emblem is three crossed greatswords, it is also called the Trident Sword by Wizards.

As one of the three constituent bodies of the Wizard Alliance, the Wizard Council grants many privileges to the Trident Sword, which is subordinate to it.

For example, unlike ordinary local public security bureaus and Security Department, the Commissioners of the Trident Sword have worldwide law enforcement power and the right to use many high-risk magical spells with impunity.

For example, every year the Investigation Bureau has priority in selection, allowing it to communicate in advance with outstanding talents with prominent abilities from the graduates of First University to strengthen its team.

For another example, they can disregard the numerous losses in Daming Ward and openly discuss aftermath matters with Thomas.

Perhaps the Daming Ward Management Committee was well aware of this, and to avoid embarrassment, not a single staff member of the Management Committee showed up before these black-robed Commissioners left.

“Alright, Andrew, we should leave now.” The tall Wizard put away his spell book and said goodbye in a low voice, “It was a pleasure to see you, Thomas.”

Thomas bowed slightly.

The last thin, tall black-robed Wizard flipped through his spell book. Dazzling runes shot out of the spell book one by one as he twisted his wrist, burrowing into the ground.

Andrew did not leave immediately.

He discussed for a moment with his two colleagues, then returned to Thomas with a kraft paper envelope.

A series of popping sounds like a deflating balloon came, and Zheng Qing looked in the direction of the sound, seeing several thick vines slowly pulling the pig demon underground. The tall Wizard and the thin, tall Wizard waved at them, transforming into specks of starlight and disappearing onto the street.

“No need to look, they’ve already gone back to the Bureau to report.” Andrew handed the kraft paper envelope in his hand to Thomas and said to Zheng Qing with a smile.

Zheng Qing licked his lips.

It was dry, with a slight bitterness, like freshly shelled almonds.

Whether it was the ‘Escape’ that Thomas brought him to in Four Seasons Square, or the Thunder Spell ‘In Qi Lei’ that Thomas had cast earlier, or the vines summoned by the Trident Sword, and those figures that transformed into specks of starlight.

Magic, on this day, left a profound impression on him in a very strong way.

“Why didn’t you leave?” Thomas stared warily at the kraft paper envelope, not taking it, but said very seriously, “I need to remind you, I am currently on official duty for First University, and time is very precious.”

“I just wanted to ask you which team you bet on this season.” The fuzz at the corner of Andrew’s mouth twitched exaggeratedly, and his round baby face was full of sincerity: “To be safe, I still bet on the Gold Star Team, it’s just that the odds are a bit low.”

“How could the odds be high for such a highly ranked Hunting Team, and with the team’s state being so stable?” Thomas relaxed his guard, his expression easing: “I bet on the Flamingos, their new Captain Doflamingo is a very good Assistant Hunter. Professor Yi Jiazhi even praised him to me a while ago, saying that Doflamingo’s grades in his Divination Class have always been excellent.”

Zheng Qing was rubbing his spell book on the side.

He remembered that Thomas had mentioned these terms when they talked in the teahouse earlier.

He still didn’t understand now, but vaguely guessed that they were discussing the Wizards’ sports events.

“It’s still good to be at the University, at least there’s someone to talk about the World Cup with.” Andrew held the kraft paper envelope in his hand, shaking his head: “Unlike at the Bureau, everyone’s been busy lately, and I can’t find anyone to discuss Hunting Team matters with at all.”

“All busy? Have they all gone to Dark Blue Ancient Castle?” Thomas’s lips curled into a sarcastic smile: “Ever since he became the Director of the Wizard Union Investigation Bureau, there have been more and more small actions targeting the Moonlight Council.”

Zheng Qing had heard of the Moonlight Council.

Thomas had told him that the Wizard Alliance was the government of the Wizarding World, and the Moonlight Council, First University, and the Wizard Council were the three major institutions under the Wizard Alliance.

But why would the Wizard Union Investigation Bureau target the Moonlight Council?

Zheng Qing was a bit confused.

“You saw that news too?” Andrew had a wry smile: “He is Principal Shi’s Personal Disciple, so he naturally inherited Principal Shi’s style of hating evil like a personal enemy. If his stance wasn’t so firm, he wouldn’t be sitting in that position at the level of a Registered Wizard. The matter of Dark Blue Ancient Castle is probably just the beginning.”

Zheng Qing had some impression of Dark Blue Ancient Castle.

He remembered that Thomas’s newspaper had mentioned this place during their conversation at the teahouse earlier; it seemed to have been searched by the court for illegal experiments.

As for the other terms in their mouths, Zheng Qing was completely lost.

He turned his head, bored, and looked at the ancient locust tree next to him.

Between the branches of the locust tree, a furry little head poked out.

It was a Tree Sprite.

He had thought that these Little Elves living on trees were timid by Nature and would hide in their tree holes for a long time after the previous thunderstorm. He didn’t expect that as soon as the Wild Demon was dragged away by the Trident Sword, these little guys would pop out.

Zheng Qing rummaged through his gray bag for some Hamster food, placed it in his palm, and made ‘tsk-tsk’ sounds, teasing these Little Elves.

Andrew glanced at him, leaned closer to Thomas, and whispered, “But you guessed one thing wrong, the Bureau didn’t put too much effort into Dark Blue Ancient Castle. This is probably just a warning search. What’s bothering the higher-ups now are other troubles.”

“Other troubles?”

Andrew looked around, and said mysteriously, “There was a disturbance in Silent Forest yesterday, and a newly transformed Little Demon took the opportunity to escape. The Bureau is currently searching everywhere, so manpower is a bit stretched.”

“Disturbance?” Thomas’s expression became serious.

“That old fellow deep in the forest is stirring up trouble again.” Andrew glanced at Zheng Qing again, explaining enigmatically.

Thomas nodded thoughtfully: “I was very curious just now, does it really require the Wizard Union Investigation Bureau’s rapid response team just for a Wild Demon?”

“Does it really require a Thunder Spell just for a Wild Demon?” Andrew returned his words: “The Assistant Teachers at the University have all been assigned search missions, and you will definitely receive this mission when you go back. Instead of wasting a month in Silent Forest, why not help us with a simple investigation?”

Saying that, he handed the kraft paper envelope in his hand back to Thomas.

Thomas pondered, not immediately refusing.

“There’s still a vacancy in the Xu Su direction, you go and investigate. The Bureau will send a note to the University, and you can submit your interview report later. When you return to the Bureau, I’ll submit the Thunder Spell usage report for Four Seasons Square, guaranteed!” Andrew struck while the iron was hot, patting his chest in assurance.

“Those guys have indeed been making a lot of moves lately.” Thomas nodded, took the kraft paper envelope, and said, “I always feel like they know something.”

“Do you know something then?” Andrew raised an eyebrow, smiling as he glanced at Zheng Qing.

Zheng Qing’s arm, which was teasing the Tree Sprite, stiffened, and he roared in his heart:

What I know or don’t know is none of my business!

Why do you keep looking at me!
