Chapter 57: doubtful guide

Nicholas was thin, with a yellowish complexion, and his brownish-black medium-length hair was neatly tied back with a copper band.

His eyes were deep-set, and his brown eyeballs always trembled involuntarily when he spoke, as if avoiding something or lying.

Just like a moment ago, a new student asked him about the origin of the scar on his forehead.

He quickly explained that the scar was left over from a terrible laboratory accident.

As for the specific accident, he pursed his thin lips, smiled inscrutably, and remained silent.

Watching his eyes darting left and right, the new students were half-convinced.

Zheng Qing was also full of doubts.

However, he didn't doubt Nicholas's story—in fact, he didn't believe Nicholas's story at all.

Because he had some doubts about Nicholas's identity.

He always felt that he had heard this name somewhere before.

According to the fat Professor, new students were divided into groups by college, with four to five new students from the same college assigned to a senior guide.

A senior guide!

Zheng Qing's gaze fell on Nicholas's somewhat worn deep red college robe.

There were still some black, unknown marks on the surface of his robe, and the collar and cuffs were shiny from wear.

Most importantly, his robe had no black trim.

Zheng Qing turned to look at Xiao Xiao.

The small boy with the watermelon haircut was holding his notebook, casually following the crowd, looking somewhat distracted.

Zheng Qing turned his head back and continued to observe his guide.

Nicholas didn't notice that someone among the new students he was leading was carefully observing him.

He was still incessantly imparting his experience:

"First, remember, don't buy anything! Especially those that 'feel' very useful!"

Nicholas emphasized the word 'feel'.

He flicked his ponytail and sighed, "I remember, a classmate back then saw those very cheap experimental materials, various potion formulas, and cultivation guides, and was overjoyed, spending a month's living expenses to buy them all."

"And then?" someone asked curiously.

"There was no then. That pile of materials is still sitting in the corner of his dorm.

That poor fellow wants you all to learn a lesson, hoping one of you new students can move those materials back to your own dorm—he's even willing to lose some money."

"Why?"

"Because you won't use them," Nicholas spread his hands.

"Materials for experiments done in class will be provided, and materials for experiments you're allowed to do outside of class will also be provided for free.

Professors are always welcome to be challenged with various questions, and there are countless seniors in clubs willing to share their cultivation experiences with you.

Unless you have some strange plans, learning resources are very abundant."

"But! To use the University's facilities, you need to provide your ID card."

Saying this, he shook the silver-gray card in his hand:

"You'll use this card for eating, showering, entering your dorm; reading, attending classes, doing experiments; you'll use this card for everything."

Seemingly pleased with his somewhat irregular couplet, Nicholas repeated it several times before continuing to explain:

"To summarize simply, with a card, you can go anywhere in the University; without a card, you can't move an inch.

High scores get you many girls; low scores make it hard to find a buddy.

Of course, outside of school, for example, in Beta Town, if a few friends gather or you want to buy small gifts, you'll need money.

Consumption on the island isn't high; a meal is only a few silver angles."

As he spoke, everyone received their student cards.

Zheng Qing carefully examined the card in his hand.

The credit card was about three inches long, entirely silver-white, of an unknown material, feeling like a warm metal.

The upper left of the card had the cardholder's photo; the right side had the college, major, student ID, name, and the most important credit value.

At this moment, a bright red 0 followed his credit value.

"The credit card is dual-purpose.

It's both the First University student card and the Wizard United Bank bank card.

After a while, you can try to put any unused money into this card; the location for this is the Wizard United Bank Buji Island University branch."

"The bank is in the front courtyard of the University, with golden and silver wood, sycamore maples, and magnolias planted in front of the door, very conspicuous and easy to find.

I'll show you in a bit."

The new students cautiously examined their ID cards, whispering and exchanging comments.

Nicholas clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention back:

"Before the tour, let me give you a brief introduction."

"Before, after getting off the plane—of course, for new students, the phrase 'falling off the plane' is more easily accepted."

Nicholas rolled his eyes, seemingly trying to make a playful expression.

But unfortunately, his remark reminded these new students of their recent thrilling experience, and the atmosphere instantly became much cooler.

This made the new student guide feel a little uneasy; he cleared his throat and continued his introduction:

"The small square after getting off the plane is called 'First Square', then the magnificent gate you passed through is called 'First Gate', and this grand hall where you are now is called 'First Hall'.

It's easy to remember, isn't it?"

Zheng Qing couldn't help but smile.

He had completely lost faith in the Wizards' ability to name things.

But this smile was a huge encouragement to Nicholas; his tone became lighthearted again:

"The First Hall is the only way to enter and exit every college, every hunting ground, every research institute, and other places in the University.

Without passing through here, it's difficult to reach the college you want to go to.

This is considered the hub of the First University."

"You are now first-year new students; for daily gatherings, you can simply stay in the viewing corridor on the First Hall's first floor.

As for the second and third floors, those are for senior students, and you don't need to worry about them at all."

Saying this, he looked up at the high corridors, silent for a few seconds.

"For safety, the Hall is closed to outsiders.

You can think of those moving glowing objects on the dome as stars, just don't attack them casually.

As for the beautiful music constantly playing here, to be honest, I don't know what's going on."

"Previous seniors boasted that this singing was from the Little Elves living on those little stars, which is pure nonsense.

I tried to catch them, saw nothing, and lost a credit point for sure."

Nicholas pouted somewhat resentfully.

Among the new students, a short girl suddenly exclaimed in alarm: "What's wrong with it? It hasn't been very settled since just now.

Is there something unsuitable here?"

Zheng Qing saw that the girl was pulling the top fur of a Flower Cat, trying to comfort her little companion.

However, the Flower Cat in her arms struggled fiercely, continuously meowing.

"Don't worry, just let go," Nicholas said kindly.

"Just as Professor Charles mentioned earlier, these little things know where they're going.

This is the First University; you don't need to worry about their safety at all."

The girl hesitantly released her grip, and the Flower Cat gracefully landed on the ground, got up, shook its fur, and lazily stretched its body into a yawn.

Its amber eyes glanced at the short girl, then haughtily swept over the surrounding crowd, before it leisurely turned into the corridor and disappeared behind an archway.

Zheng Qing looked around and realized that Poseidon had also vanished without a trace.

Xiao Xiao's old tortoise, he didn't know when, had also poked its head and claws out, and was strenuously crawling towards that archway.

"Damn it, I forgot to peel off the fox's vest," Zheng Qing annoyedly scratched the box in his arms.

Inside the box, several Little Elves restlessly stirred.

Zheng Qing was so startled that he immediately released his fingertips.

He hadn't yet figured out how to face the Little Elves once they woke up.

"What are you holding?" The short girl pointed at the cardboard box in Zheng Qing's arms and asked curiously.

"Fate," Xiao Xiao suddenly looked up and replied.

Zheng Qing exhaled and hugged the box in his arms even tighter.

The Little Elves in the box were still sleeping.

The noisy sounds in the auditorium and Zheng Qing's scratching of the cardboard box had not disturbed their sweet dreams at all.
