Chapter 65: The war between sucrose and maltose

From flying on a private plane and confronting a succubus, to touring the University and playing tug-of-war with mermen, the events of just one day left him feeling overwhelmed and dazzled.

Nicholas looked at the new students with understanding: “If everyone has no other opinions, we’ll take a shortcut back to the front yard.”

“Why do we have to go back to the front yard?” The short girl squatted on the ground, groaning weakly, “Didn’t you just say the dorms are in this backyard?”

“Because your tour isn’t completely over yet,” Nicholas explained. “And I believe it’s been a long time since you last filled your stomachs.”

Zheng Qing’s stomach rumbled cooperatively.

The other new students burst into laughter.

This made Zheng Qing extremely embarrassed.

Nicholas added with a smile:

“I still need to remind you one more time. Remember, never go to the Professors’ East Peach Garden without an invitation, never go to the girls’ Yunfang Garden without permission, and never go to those plant fields without protection. Most importantly, do not go outside the University walls!”

“Although the walls are covered with many warning and protective Spells, they are more for external defense than internal. Every year, some reckless young men climb over the wall and rush out of the University.”

“They always think the outside world is wonderful.”

“In reality, just like the other campuses of First University, the area around the University is the Silent Forest. If I were you, I would never go into such a place alone before graduating.”

“If you want to find a livelier place, you can go to Beta Town and take a look.”

As he spoke, Nicholas led everyone to the base of a wall by a pavilion.

There was a patch of shadow on this wall, noticeably different from the surrounding color, as if it had once been a door but was cemented over and sealed again.

Nicholas picked up a rag from the grass by the pavilion and vigorously scrubbed the stains on the wall.

The wall let out a rumbling laugh.

That patch of shadow folded, opening up a narrow doorway.

Nicholas turned around, saw the shocked expressions of the new students, and smiled proudly:

“This shortcut can only be opened by upper-year students. First-year new students can only take the ferry on Linzhong Lake to Beta Town.”

“Of course, the University does not encourage first-year new students to take the ferry. If you need stationery or other learning Materials, you can apply to the University. The University will prepare these items for you at a very low price.”

“Now, let’s go experience the liveliest place in the entire First University — the Beta Town Pedestrian Street!”

Passing through the small, narrow door, a long, narrow street appeared before them, and the bustling sound of human voices rushed over them.

Zheng Qing’s breath caught.

The stark contrast from the quiet University to the noisy street caught all the new students off guard.

This narrow street was only about ten meters wide, but it wound and stretched, its length unknown.

The street was packed with people, wearing robes of various colors; students from the four Universities, and even Professors, wandered among them.

All kinds of shops were lined up, one after another: snacks, street food, various experimental raw Materials, etc., making people linger.

Strange tones filled their ears, making their minds drift.

A sweet scent rushed into Zheng Qing’s nostrils.

He followed the scent and saw a small candy store not far away.

Zheng Qing jogged a few steps and arrived in front of the store.

In the clean glass display window of the shop, two groups of sugar figures of different colors were in a tense standoff.

The sugar figures on the left were brownish-yellow, wearing fine fish-skin armor, with rock candy sabers at their waists, longbows on their backs, and holding eighteen-foot long spears. They sat on sturdy Mongolian horses, exuding a fierce Aura.

The sugar figures on the right were emerald green, wearing bright armor, with almond round shields on their arms, holding divine crossbows, carrying bamboo-skewer long spears on their backs, and riding tall Arabian horses, showing no weakness whatsoever.

On top of the display window, a plump Hamster raised a heavy hazelnut and smashed it down hard.

Crash!

A green sugar figure, riding a tall horse, was smashed to pieces by the hazelnut, both rider and horse.

“The Sugarcane People’s conspiracy!” a green sugar figure shouted hoarsely, “The Sugarcane People’s conspiracy! They’ve deployed catapults! A knight is injured! A knight is injured!!”

The cavalry of the green sugar figures began to gather in an orderly fashion.

“Counterattack! Counterattack! Counterattack!!” They raised their bamboo-skewer long spears and shouted loudly.

The brownish-yellow sugar figures opposite quickly noticed the actions of these green-skinned sugar figures.

“The Malt People have broken the agreement!” a brownish-yellow sugar figure shouted, “Their warriors are already mounted! Their long spears are already raised! They want war!!”

The brownish-yellow knights clamored, crowding together.

“War! War!! Let the war come more fiercely!” These brownish-yellow cavalry shouted in a chaotic manner.

The two groups of sugar figures of different colors simultaneously turned their horses and retreated.

Then they reorganized their formations at the ends of the two display stands.

On top of the display stand, the plump Hamster excitedly ran down the beam, lay on the Edge of the display stand, and watched the impending battle with anticipation.

“For the purity and glory of sugarcane!” The brownish-yellow sugar figures waved their eighteen-foot long spears, their expressions frenzied.

“All glory to malt sugar!” The green sugar figures opposite raised their long spears and prayed solemnly.

“Charge!!”

“Kill!!”

The short few meters of the display stand quickly disappeared amidst the sound of hooves.

The cavalry of the Sugarcane People and the Malt Sugar People fiercely collided.

Toothpicks broke, almonds shattered, and small eyes made of black sesame seeds scattered all over the ground.

Broken sugar figure leg fragments fluttered down, landing outside the display stand.

The plump Hamster squinted its eyes, a brilliant smile pulling at its mouth, as it swept these sweet fragments into its cheek pouches.

“Our time is limited,” Nicholas interrupted Zheng Qing’s interest, pulling him back to the Walking Street, “If you’re not planning to buy sugar figures, don’t waste time watching those flashy skits.”

“But those sugar figures are all broken!” Zheng Qing felt extremely regretful, “It’s all that Hamster’s fault! There’s a mouse in a candy store, why does no one care? That fat ball should be thrown out!”

“You need to adapt to University life as soon as possible,” Nicholas shook his head, “You also said it’s a Hamster — as a friend of the shop owner, it has the right to stay in the display window.”

“Besides, the sugar figures are only broken.”

Nicholas pointed to a corner of the display window, telling Zheng Qing to look closely.

On both sides of the display stand in the window, there were two gleaming large barrels.

Steam was bubbling out of the barrels.

A little white light floated out from the broken sugar figures, falling back into the two steaming barrels.

Within a few seconds, new sugar figures, steaming and covered in syrup, crawled out of the large barrels, picked up their bamboo-skewer spears and almond shields from the dishes again, and howled as they charged onto the battlefield.

“Only when they are bitten and eaten by a wizard can those sweet fellows truly shut up,” Nicholas said with emotion.

“That was amazing!” Zheng Qing reluctantly left the candy store, looking back every three steps, pondering when he would buy two cavalry figures himself to satisfy his urge to command troops.
