Chapter 9: Put the blame on others

Not far from the interrogation room was a wide road leading to the stadium entrance.

Weilan stood by the roadside, blending into the large, dim shadow cast by the nearby bushes.

He watched James pace back and forth under the streetlights and heard him say,

"On the way here, Black has already explained everything to all of us."

"He was seated two rows behind Peter, not far, and can testify that Peter was indeed late for a long time, only taking his seat after 7:30 PM."

"Everything points to Peter, but if Peter is the real culprit, I don't understand why, why Peter would do such a thing!"

"He didn't even know the deceased!"

Weilan asked again,

"Then why was Mr. Black in the ordinary spectator stands?"

"I mean, the 'Black' surname seems more fitting for a first-class box."

The House of Black, like the Malfoy, was a noble family in Britain's wizarding world.

Even though most of Black's family members had been purged for siding with Lord Voldemort, this certainly didn't mean that Little Black would be so poor as to sit with Peter in the ordinary spectator stands.

James's explanation for this was:

"Black didn't want to see those nobles in the first-class box... He's always had a bad relationship with the Malfoy family. And there are a lot of officials there, which would make him very uncomfortable."

"No, no, no! James, you're only half right!"

A dark figure suddenly stepped between the two.

Some faint light from the streetlight fell, and Weilan barely made out the handsome features of the newcomer.

It was Black; he shook his head at James:

"I don't want to deal with those officials in the first-class box, but there's a second-class box below the first-class one, so I don't necessarily have to sit near Peter."

Black crossed his arms over his chest, raised his head, and scoffed coldly:

"James, you trust Peter too much. I've warned you many times, Peter is not someone worth befriending deeply."

Weilan recalled that in the original work, young Black didn't particularly like Peter, so he didn't show much surprise at Black's words.

He just stood quietly, listening to Black continue.

"The reason I was with him is because I found that Peter has been very abnormal lately!"

Black deliberately emphasized the words "very abnormal."

Then he looked towards the interrogation room window, which glowed in the darkness, and Weilan and James also looked over in unison—

The blurry figures on the window were moving, those were the Aurors conducting the interrogation and recording.

"About a month ago, Peter suddenly said he had a fiancée, a tall, fair-skinned beauty, more beautiful than all the girls who chased me combined."

Weilan and James incredibly turned their heads back, looking again at Black, who had just spoken.

His body, illuminated by the light, was slightly tensed, still maintaining the posture of looking at the interrogation room.

"Since then, Peter has become abnormal. He always talks about that woman and tells everyone around him that the beauty will soon become his wife."

"It's a pity, James, you were busy dealing with a Dark Wizard gathering spot at the time, and the months-long surveillance had entered its final phase, so you had no time to spare for these trivial matters..."

"Otherwise, if you had interacted with Peter a few times, you would definitely have noticed his abnormality."

At this point, James nodded, and Weilan slightly bowed his head, sensing a familiar aura from Black's statement.

But he didn't interrupt Black, so Black continued:

"I also tried to ask Peter if he could bring out his 'fiancée' so I could meet her."

"But every one of my attempts ended with Peter's furious refusal."

"Until a week ago, Peter brought a ticket for a Quidditch match, saying it was a gift from his 'fiancée.'"

"After watching this Quidditch match, his 'fiancée' would officially be with him."

"So, I specially bought this seat ticket, close to Peter's, at three times the normal price."

"All for the purpose of investigating the reason for Peter's recent uncharacteristic behavior!"

"But, but..."

Black's voice trembled, even carrying a hint of anger:

"That fiancée he kept thinking about hasn't appeared at all until now! And Peter actually went and killed someone before the match started!"

Black's entire statement ended here.

Weilan timely reminded James:

"Don't you think Peter's 'fiancée' is very similar to Rowan's 'girlfriend' before he died? Both are similar ploys..."

"Similar to what?" Black raised his eyebrows high.

After Weilan explained the charming girlfriend Rowan had been waiting for before his death, the three fell into contemplation together.

One was "making friends out of thin air."

The other was "self-deceiving about a wife."

The same murder case, yet two key figures had remarkably similar experiences.

Is this reasonable?

Or rather, is this woman's charm normal?

The light from the interrogation room window suddenly flickered, accompanied by a rustling sound, and the door was pushed open.

The interrogation of Peter was over, and James stepped forward to ask his colleague for the interrogation records.

As James, holding the interrogation records, walked towards him, Weilan saw Mr. Malfoy being led away by several Aurors.

And behind him, restrained by several other Aurors, Narcissa's face was pale, and Little Malfoy was furious:

"No! You can't take my father, he's innocent, he didn't do anything!"

Weilan watched curiously, and after holding the interrogation records for a while, he finally lowered his head and began to browse.

Ant-sized characters lay on the white paper, and in the dim light, Weilan's eyes ached from reading.

"Lumos!"

James used the Lumos Charm to light his wand and handed it to Weilan.

His eyes finally felt much more comfortable, and Weilan's browsing speed also picked up.

Soon, Weilan learned the reason for Mr. Malfoy's arrest from the interrogation records.

Peter identified during the interrogation: Mr. Malfoy paid a large sum of money for him to kill Rowan!

The Malfoy family ring was given to Peter by Mr. Malfoy as a token of communication between them.

With the token, Mr. Malfoy provided Peter with tickets for the Quidditch World Cup and the expected activity trajectory of the victim, Rowan.

And Peter discussed the details of the crime with him in detail and learned the Avada Kedavra curse from Mr. Malfoy.

Shortly before the incident, Peter transformed into a rat and infiltrated the ventilation duct from the men's restroom on the first floor of the East Wing.

Following the route provided by Mr. Malfoy, he made his way along the ventilation duct to the athlete's lounge.

Using his small and agile rat body, Peter squeezed out from the gap between the fan blade frame and the wall, landing on the lounge bench.

After transforming back into human form, Peter's first Avada Kedavra missed, alerting Rowan.

It was understandable that Rowan did not have his wand with him.

Because he was about to step onto the field, and the use of magic by players was prohibited during Quidditch matches.

Rowan quickly moved in, attempting to disarm Peter by force.

In a panic, Peter waved his wand and cast spells, causing destruction within the lounge.

But in the end, Rowan was still struck by Peter's Avada Kedavra and lost his life.

The struggle with Rowan was not part of Peter's plan. Peter left the scene in a panic, not realizing that when Rowan had moved in to snatch his wand, he had pulled off the ring Mr. Malfoy had given him...

...

Weilan put down the interrogation records and submitted his conclusion to James:

"There are at least three logical inconsistencies in Peter's statement!"
