Chapter 96: Godfather of Death

Weilan's second day at the Hospital Wing passed just like that.

It wasn't until the afternoon of his third day at the Hospital Wing that Madam Pomfrey reluctantly agreed to let Weilan temporarily leave the Hospital Wing and sit for a while in Professor Dumbledore's office.

The Head Nurse had already used a Cleaning Charm and Reparo to make Weilan's dirty, torn robes from the day before look brand new.

Weilan changed from his hospital gown back into his robes, opened the drawer, took out the small bottle of memories, then thanked Madam Pomfrey gratefully, and left the Hospital Wing for Professor Dumbledore's office.

Everyone he met on the way greeted him or cast admiring glances his way.

Some bolder students even came up to ask him exactly how he had dealt with the Inferi and Dementors in the Forbidden Forest.

“Uh... of course, with the Fire-Making Charm and the Patronus Charm! Professor Lupin taught us, have you forgotten?”

Weilan could only answer them like this, then shyly lowered his head and fled in a hurry under their gazes.

He gave the password to the two gargoyles, walked up the spiral staircase, and arrived at the door of Professor Dumbledore's office.

Knock, enter.

In this circular room, Professor Dumbledore was already seated behind his claw-footed desk, having waited for Weilan for a long time.

This time, in the center of the desk, there was a shallow stone basin, with Ancient Runes carved into its rim.

The Pensieve—Weilan had asked Professor Dumbledore if he could borrow this item.

Next to the Pensieve was a brown-covered notebook, stained with ink, severely damaged, and clearly flipped through countless times.

“You look at this first.”

Professor Dumbledore used his wand to push the notebook in front of Weilan:

“This is the notebook we found underground.”

“It mainly records Olena's magic research.”

Weilan realized there must be something unusual inside.

So he cautiously opened the notebook.

The contents of the notebook were all written in Old Latin.

In the first few pages of the notebook, it first recorded how to communicate with Dementors and then how to control them.

Then it recorded the method for refining magic powder.

Finally, it also explained how to control the Inferi that were transformed from magic powder.

This probably accounted for one-third of the entire notebook's content.

“These magic spells all require ancient authority-level power to be able to wield them freely.”

Weilan pointed out the crux as accurately as possible:

“Dementors and Inferi both require the power of the ‘Death’ authority.”

“As for the magic powder... uh, I don't recognize this Old Latin word in the notes, but combined with the context, it's that addictive ‘magic powder’.”

“Its refining process involves the authorities of ‘desire’ and ‘alienation’.”

Weilan nervously licked his lips, carefully observing Professor Dumbledore's reaction.

This was not good news; it meant that Olena possessed at least three “authority” level magical powers.

Professor Dumbledore looked through his half-moon spectacles on his crooked nose at Fawkes the Phoenix, who was perched on a bookshelf preening his feathers.

He still looked as calm and peaceful as ever, and slowly said:

“Keep reading, there's more.”

So Weilan turned another page.

On the next page, the notes recorded the process for creating a magical item called a “Blood Horcrux”.

Weilan's face instantly turned pale.

He didn't know what a “Blood Horcrux” was, but how could he not know what a “Horcrux” was?

That was an extremely dark and evil item.

Dark Wizards, fearing Death, would split their souls by committing murder to create Horcruxes, thereby escaping Death.

In the original story, the infamous Lord Voldemort created seven Horcruxes for himself in one go.

“This isn't good, Professor Dumbledore.”

Weilan revered the Dark Arts, and even more so, the greatest White Wizard before him.

“These Dark Arts should be strictly forbidden for students like us to touch.”

Professor Dumbledore did not entirely agree with this statement:

“Many times, if we want to defeat our enemies, we must first understand our enemies.”

Seeing Professor Dumbledore's permission, Weilan continued to read.

Before formally writing down the method for creating a “Blood Horcrux,” the notes spent a great deal of space recording a legendary story called “Death's Godfather”—

The legend says that a long, long time ago, a farmer had a son late in life and cherished this hard-won son very much.

Upon hearing his son's first cry, the farmer vowed to find the best godfather for him.

He left his farmhouse, walked down the road ahead, and successively refused several men who wanted to be his child's godfather.

Finally, he met Death. Death said that he was willing to be the child's godfather.

The farmer said, “You can be my son's godfather, because you are the fairest being in this world; you treat the rich and the poor equally.”

The farmer entrusted his son to Death and had Death participate in his son's baptism.

The son gradually grew up and became a young man.

One day, the young man's godfather, Death, called him into the forest, pointed out a magical herb to him, and told him that from now on, he could become a doctor.

“But, Godfather, I don't know any medicine.”

“Don't be afraid, child. When someone asks you to treat them, you go to the patient's window and observe my position.”

“If I stand at the head of the bed, it means this patient can still be saved. At this time, you take out that herb, crush it, mix it with water, and feed it to the patient; he will soon get better.”

“Conversely, if I stand at the foot of the bed, it means the patient is beyond help, and even the most exquisite medical skill cannot save his life. At this time, you can tell his family to arrange for the funeral.”

“But please remember, life and Death in this world are fated; never try to save those whom I am about to take away.”

In the years that followed, the young man strictly followed the teachings of his godfather, Death, and quickly became a famous doctor throughout the kingdom.

With his ability to determine life and Death at a glance, he escaped the arduous farm work and lived a comfortable life free from worries about food and clothing.

One day, the king of the kingdom fell ill.

He offered a hefty reward of money and a title throughout the kingdom to a divine doctor to cure his illness.

The young man answered the summons.

He stood by the dying old king's bed, first looking at the head of the bed.

His godfather, Death, was not there.

He then looked at the foot of the bed.

His godfather, Death, was standing at the foot of the bed, shaking his head at him.

He knew the old king's life was short.

However, the title offered by the old king dazzled the young man's eyes.

Although he was already very wealthy, his ancestors had been farmers for generations.

The young man greatly longed to obtain this title.

So, for the first time in his life, he disobeyed the guidance given by his godfather, Death, and had people swap the head and foot of the old king's bed.

Thus, the head of the bed became the foot, and the foot of the bed became the head. Death's godfather now stood at the head of the old king's bed.

The young man put the herbal water into the old king's mouth.

Afterward, he saw Death, with a cold face, disappear from the head of the bed.

The old king's illness quickly improved.

The king was overjoyed and gave the young man the title he had promised, as well as the territory corresponding to the title.

Only Death, after the young man returned home, scolded him severely:

“Did you forget what I told you? How could you forcibly keep those who were meant to die?”

“Considering this is your first mistake, I will not pursue it, but do not let me see you make this mistake a second time!”
