After reading each scroll, he came to a conclusion.
“Most of the Ninjutsu here have no combat use. They are just different ways and scenarios of using Genjutsu. I think people like Itachi or even Yuhi could easily use them after one read.”
All in all, Feng Zheng had no intention of becoming a true Genjutsu master. With the Uchiha Clan around, it was all meaningless.
He only wanted to learn how to counter Genjutsu and the Shadow Genjutsu that Hashirama or Tobirama created to counter the Sharingan.
However, he thought those might be Rank B or Rank A Genjutsu.
So Feng Zheng thought he should learn these few first. Starting with the Rank E Double Vision Technique and the Rank D ninjutsu Hell Viewing Technique.
The Double Vision Technique makes everything the opponent sees double. Therefore, it is very useful for putting pressure on the opponent.
And the Hell Viewing Technique is the Ninjutsu Kakashi used on Sakura.
Next, he read how the Double Vision Technique was cast. He also read some scrolls on countering Genjutsu.
Then, as usual, he went to a small forest.
Genjutsu training cannot be done alone. Someone needs to cast the Genjutsu. Otherwise, the results would be completely unknown. So he created a Shadow Clone to practice.
Feng Zheng’s plan was:
He would try to cast Genjutsu on his Shadow Clone.
Once the clone dissipated, he could obtain all the memories the Shadow Clone experienced, as well as his ability to cast Genjutsu.
Moreover, the Shadow Clone would try to resist and dispel the Genjutsu, so he could train both casting and countering Genjutsu at the same time.
To counter Genjutsu, Ninja usually have two methods.
The first is to stop and disrupt one’s Chakra flow.
The second is to inflict pain on oneself to break through the Genjutsu. For example, by stabbing oneself with a kunai, biting one's tongue, or other methods.
Of course, the Shadow Clone cannot use the second method.
He first tried to affect the Shadow Clone’s brain nervous system with Chakra flow.
He recalled all the diagrams he had seen, and the method of affecting the opponent’s brain nervous system with his own Chakra.
This requires extremely precise Chakra control.
He had no success on the first day.
He kept practicing and it took him sixteen days to be able to do it.
After another 7 days, he successfully used the Double Vision Technique on his Shadow Clone.
For the Double Vision Technique, after his Chakra invaded the Shadow Clone’s nervous system, he had to affect its vision and double everything it received.
The key to this Ninjutsu is to ensure your Chakra output is very low, so the enemy cannot sense it.
The scene observed by his Shadow Clone was:
“Wow, I can see everything doubled! There are two of my main body, every tree is two trees, and even every pebble on the ground and every cloud is doubled. Besides that, only the ground and the sky look normal. Maybe it’s because they are too big, and I can’t distinguish whether it’s one or two.”
“But, regarding these doubled things, I can’t see much difference between them. If I hadn’t looked at the surroundings, I wouldn’t have noticed most of the doubled things. I just feel there are more pebbles on the ground, the forest is denser, and there are more clouds in the sky than usual. Of course, I would notice the peculiar phenomenon of having two main bodies.”
“So if I am seen by an enemy while casting Genjutsu, the enemy will understand what went wrong. Similarly, if there are multiple opponents, it will also be quickly identified. Besides that, although my main body did try its best to suppress his Chakra, since I am a Sensor Ninja, I was able to feel his Chakra trying to affect me.”
Then the Shadow Clone closed its eyes and tried to sense its surroundings.
“I see, since the Genjutsu targets my vision, only my vision is affected. If I try to sense, I can only sense one main body. So this Genjutsu doesn’t work on Sensor Ninja.”
The Shadow Clone immediately stopped sensing and nodded to Feng Zheng.
Feng Zheng received the signal and fired four Shuriken at the Shadow Clone.
The Shadow Clone saw eight Shuriken and thought:
“I saw the main body each throw four Shuriken at me.”
Then he moved quickly to dodge the Shuriken.
Feng Zheng then used the Wind Release Projectile Control Technique to make those Shuriken chase his Shadow Clone.
Because the Shadow Clone could see eight Shuriken, it was a bit difficult to dodge them.
Half a minute later, the Shadow Clone used the Gale Surge Technique to disrupt the main body’s control over the Shuriken.
Then he cast the Wind Stealing Technique, pulling two Shuriken towards himself and catching them with both hands.
However, he only caught one, and the other disappeared.
The Shadow Clone then dissipated, transmitting all memories back to Feng Zheng.
After gaining the memories, Feng Zheng analyzed:
“I see. The Ninjutsu is not as useful as I thought. The only use is when the enemy is alone, I can hide around him and target him with Shuriken.”
“But even so, it only works if I take the enemy to an unknown place where he won’t observe any differences in the surroundings.”
Furthermore, this Ninjutsu is not applicable to Sensor Ninja.
Feng Zheng also got a very important piece of information: he could feel the enemy trying to affect him through Genjutsu.
But he wasn’t sure if this happened because he was a novice at Genjutsu, or if every Sensor Ninja could passively sense this.
If so, this would be an excellent means to counter Genjutsu.
Then all he had to do was disrupt his Chakra before the enemy completed the Genjutsu.
Of course, there would be some limitations.
However, Feng Zheng thought this method might not work against the Sharingan, because the Sharingan can cast Genjutsu simply through eye contact.
But Feng Zheng could easily detect Genjutsu cast by others and disrupt it midway.
But who knows, maybe with training, he could even counter the Sharingan.
Then he continued his training.
Only this time, his Shadow Clone would disrupt its Chakra before the Genjutsu was cast.
The Shadow Clone successfully completed this task within a day.
The next day, as soon as it felt Feng Zheng’s Chakra invading its nervous system, his Shadow Clone would disrupt its Chakra.
Surprisingly, it only took a few hours to learn.
He was satisfied with the progress and decided to continue with the next Ninjutsu.
Feng Zheng then began to learn the Hell Viewing Technique. This Genjutsu is more advanced than the previous one.
Its simplest form is to affect the opponent’s vision and show them the scene the caster wants them to see.
In addition, the caster must also affect the opponent to induce feelings of fear and despair.
This Ninjutsu can also be enhanced by affecting the opponent’s sense of smell and hearing. Feng Zheng recalled:
“The Genjutsu Kakashi cast on Sakura made Sasuke ask her for help. So I guess he should have also controlled her hearing. But I’m not sure if he also affected her sense of smell, and if so, he might have also added the smell of blood.”
