Chapter 293: Video
Night fell.
Jiang Shu, who usually disappeared by four or five o'clock, stayed at the company until after seven on this Christmas Day before leaving.
He chose not to go home; how could he stay home on such a lively holiday?
He drove to Gangnam District, one of Seoul's most bustling areas.
He found a parking lot and parked his car.
Okay, the parking fee is 10,000 korean won per hour. It really is a place stronger than Shanghai. At the time, when he was in Shanghai, he thought Seoul's parking fees were cheaper than Shanghai's. Now that he thinks about it, it's unbelievable.
With his car keys hooked on his belt and the scarf Sakura had just given him wrapped around his neck, he leisurely blended into the crowd.
Those out and about on this holiday were either couples, siblings, or families. As for a lone wolf like Jiang Shu, he walked quite a distance and saw only men sitting on both sides of the street, looking down at their phones.
These people were most likely designated drivers.
Seoul prohibits the use of small folding electric scooters by domestic designated drivers on the road, so designated drivers mostly rely on walking, shared electric bikes, and public transportation to get around.
When they didn't have orders, they would squat in areas where pubs gathered, playing on their phones and waiting for a job.
Jiang Shu had called designated drivers a few times, and the service was quite good.
Initially, South Korea did not prohibit drunk driving; it was only in recent years that updated regulations gave rise to the designated driving industry.
To avoid attracting attention, Jiang Shu specifically changed his overcoat to a down jacket so that it wouldn't stand out as much in the crowd.
"Buses?" At this moment, two buses by the roadside caught Jiang Shu's eye. As he passed, he curiously tilted his head and glanced inside.
"They're filming." Seeing the actors inside who were getting their makeup done, although he didn't recognize who they were, the familiar actions clearly indicated a film crew was shooting.
He curiously looked for a couple of seconds, then walked away.
Such scenes are common if you stay in Seoul for ten days to half a month.
With so many film and television productions in South Korea, ninety-nine percent of the content is filmed in Seoul, making it very easy to encounter a film crew.
With his hands in his down jacket pockets and most of his face hidden in his scarf, smelling the same perfume on the scarf that Sakura wore, Jiang Shu's thoughts gradually drifted away.
"It's 6:104 Korean time right now, and I'm in Gangnam, yes, that most famous Gangnam District in Seoul…"
A strong, clear Chinese voice came from beside him. Jiang Shu, who had been lost in thought, instantly snapped back and turned his head to look.
What came into view was a man in a down jacket with a beer belly.
What in the world is 6:104?
Jiang Shu was momentarily bewildered, then raised his wrist to look at his watch.
7:45.
Oh, that's what he meant.
"A countryman?" Jiang Shu raised an eyebrow, curiously watching the other person wander around.
The way he was wandering was pretty much identical to those designated drivers.
"Hey! What's this 'stick' looking at me for?" The man noticed Jiang Shu's gaze and muttered.
"I'm not a 'stick'," Jiang Shu said with a smile.
"Oh, a Chinese person?" The man's eyes lit up, looking at Jiang Shu in surprise.
"Mm, I also work in South Korea," Jiang Shu said with a smile.
"What a coincidence then, so do I!" The man happily approached. "I'm a designated driver. Buddy, are you out celebrating Christmas?"
"Why can't I also be a designated driver?" Jiang Shu said with a smile.
"That Canada Goose down jacket of yours is worth more than what I earn in a month as a designated driver. You're definitely not a designated driver," the man said, shaking his head.
What in the world is "Canada Goose Goose Goose"?
It took Jiang Shu two seconds to realize he was talking about Canada Goose.
"You have good eyesight," Jiang Shu said with a smile.
"I've been a designated driver and moved goods, so I've met all sorts of people. I can usually tell if someone has money at a glance," the man said with a hint of pride. "Someone like you, buddy, is at least a high-level executive with an annual salary of hundreds of thousands to millions."
Are you complimenting me or cursing me?
But before Jiang Shu could speak, the man's phone rang.
"Got an order, I'm off."
"Mm, bye bye."
As they were just passing acquaintances, Jiang Shu simply smiled and waved at the man.
"He's quite interesting," Jiang Shu said, smiling as he watched the man's hurried departure.
Grumble~~~
His stomach was still rumbling. He rubbed his belly, looked around, and chose a fried chicken shop to duck into.
Time to enjoy some beer!
...
After eating and drinking his fill, it was only half past eight. Since he was alone, he couldn't drink for too long anyway.
He paid the bill and left.
Standing at the entrance of the fried chicken shop, feeling the cold winter wind, Jiang Shu stretched on the spot.
He called a designated driver through the designated driver platform.
Within a few seconds, a designated driver accepted the order, and then his phone rang.
"Yeoboseyo, I am your designated driver for this order. Hello, President Jiang."
"Mm, how long will it take you to get here?"
"I'll be there in about ten minutes."
"Okay, I'll wait for you in the car."
"Nae!"
Hanging up the phone, Jiang Shu yawned and walked towards the parking lot.
Soon, Jiang Shu and the designated driver met up.
"Eh?"
"Damn it!"
Jiang Shu and the designated driver stared at each other.
"What a coincidence?" The beer-bellied man looked at Jiang Shu in surprise.
"It is quite a coincidence," Jiang Shu said with a smile, nodding. "Get in."
"Alright."
The two got into the driver's and passenger's seats, one on each side.
"Buddy, this GLS of yours isn't cheap, is it?" The designated driver buckled his seatbelt, looked at the car's interior, and turned to ask Jiang Shu.
"It's alright. Haven't you driven cars like this before?"
"I really haven't. Most are Hyundai and Volkswagen. Occasionally, I'll get a Bentley or Genesis, but Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and Porsche are not common."
BBAP (Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche) are most popular in Germany and China. Wealthy people in South Korea are more keen on Bentley and Genesis.
"I see quite a few of these cars on the street."
"Those are all driven by young people. These kids drive themselves even after drinking. In South Korea, young people who can afford these cars are usually second-generation rich, and no one bothers them for drunk driving," the designated driver said, shaking his head.
"Is that so?" Jiang Shu glanced at the camera on the designated driver's leg. "Are you filming videos or just documenting your life?"
"Hey, I have an account on Douyin called 'Korean Old Third'. Have you ever seen me?"
"I rarely use Douyin," Jiang Shu said, shaking his head.
"Is that so? Then do you mind if I film a bit?"
"Do as you please," Jiang Shu said with a smile. "Just make sure not to film my license plate."
The car's license plate had not yet been exposed to the media, but it probably wouldn't stay hidden for long.
"Alright!"
With Jiang Shu's permission, Old Third took out the camera hidden in his lap and placed it on the phone holder on the center console.
