Chapter 303: Song Dispute
Kim Tae-yeon’s Dorm.
In the living room, Kim Tae-yeon, dressed in pajamas, lay on the sofa, her small feet crossed and resting on the back of the sofa, holding a tablet and drawing something.
Just then, the sound of the door lock opening came from the direction of the anti-theft door.
Hearing the movement, Kim Tae-yeon immediately put down her tablet and looked towards the door.
Compared to groups with many members, solo singers' dorms are much smaller. For solo artists like Kim Tae-yeon and Lee Ji-eun, the company's standard is within 150 square meters. Both their dorms are over 140 square meters, which is much smaller than the 200-plus square meter large apartments of other groups, but it's more than enough for one person.
DM Entertainment's treatment is the best in the industry, not just talk. Just the artists' dorms alone, the houses for solo artists like Kim Tae-yeon and Lee Ji-eun are comparable to the dorms where a group of people from other popular groups live, and the 200-plus square meter large apartments for groups are unique to this company.
The anti-theft door was pushed open, and Sun Shengwan, carrying large and small bags, came into Kim Tae-yeon’s sight.
Besides herself, only two people had keys to her dorm: her manager and Sun Shengwan.
“Taeyeon,” Sun Shengwan, who had changed her shoes, walked over with her large and small bags, and immediately saw Kim Tae-yeon lying on the sofa.
“Why did you suddenly come over?” Kim Tae-yeon lay on the sofa with no intention of getting up, just looking at Sun Shengwan and asking curiously.
“Oh, when I went to pick up a package, I saw a lot of your packages, so I brought them over for you,” Sun Shengwan said, placing the large and small bags in her hand on the coffee table.
DM Entertainment artists all live in the same neighborhood, very close by, so it was indeed convenient.
“Didn’t you just have a comeback? Do you not have a schedule today?” Hearing that her packages had arrived, Kim Tae-yeon sat up, flipping through the packages as she asked.
“I just got back from a meeting at the company; today’s schedule has been postponed,” Sun Shengwan said, sitting on the sofa and looking at Kim Tae-yeon.
“Meeting?” Kim Tae-yeon, who was flipping through the packages, looked up when she heard this. “Didn’t you just have a comeback? What kind of meeting are you having again?”
“It’s about the concert. The first batch of tours starts in June, and we are the second batch, starting in August and September,” Sun Shengwan replied.
“Is that so?” Kim Tae-yeon yawned. “The tour is finally starting.”
“I heard that all of the company’s artists will be having their tours this time,” Sun Shengwan said, sharing the gossip she had heard.
“Then I don’t know how long I’ll have to wait. Anyway, I haven’t heard anything yet.”
There was no news about a comeback, and no idea about the tour, so she was just stuck.
Otherwise, she wouldn't be staying home all day drawing and playing games.
“I think Ouni can bring up the comeback issue with the company,” Sun Shengwan said after thinking for a moment.
“Me?” Kim Tae-yeon pointed to herself. “Who would I bring it up to?”
If she were the company's hottest star, she could bring it up, but what was her position now? Actively asking the company for a comeback?
“The Chairman is at the company every day. If Ouni goes to the company more often, you can talk to him.”
Kim Tae-yeon’s frequency of coming to the company was even lower than Liu Qi’s. It was only because she was popular enough; otherwise, the people at the company might not even remember there was such an artist.
“The Chairman and I aren’t that close. I’m afraid if I just directly go to him to ask for a comeback, he might misunderstand,” Kim Tae-yeon said with some concern.
“Ouni just thinks too much,” Sun Shengwan didn’t quite agree. “Artists all want to have a comeback. When Ouni brings it up like this, it will make the Chairman think Ouni is very motivated.”
“But…” Kim Tae-yeon squatted on the floor, hugging her legs, and resting her head on her knees. “I don’t dare.”
“The Chairman isn’t a monster, why are you afraid of him?” Sun Shengwan asked, puzzled.
Even Bae Joo-hyun, who was equally shy, wouldn’t be like Kim Tae-yeon when facing Jiang Shu.
“Uh… just… very scared,” Kim Tae-yeon hesitated for a moment, stammering.
Something is wrong!
Sun Shengwan, a social butterfly (in a positive sense) who could make company employees praise her daily, completely understood Kim Tae-yeon's evasiveness.
Could something have happened between Taeyeon Ouni and the Chairman?
But Kim Tae-yeon was unwilling to say, and Sun Shengwan was not someone who liked to pry into other people's secrets, so she had to stop there.
“The company’s music library has been updated again. The Chairman has uploaded a lot of works. Ouni can go and see if there’s anything you like,” Sun Shengwan said, changing the subject.
“The music library has been updated again?” Kim Tae-yeon said in surprise upon hearing this.
The music library was established at the end of last year. DM Entertainment’s producers would put their works into the company’s music library. DM Entertainment’s music library shares data with the Music Copyright Association. Songs uploaded to the music library would be registered for copyright by the Korea Music Copyright Association, saving producers the trouble of personally going offline to handle copyright procedures.
The company’s artists and mid-to-high-level executives can all browse the company’s music library.
Since its establishment, the music library has collected nearly a hundred unreleased works. In the concentrated comebacks of groups in February, many of the B-side tracks were selected from the music library.
Title tracks, however, are rarely chosen from the music library. Generally, when group artists make a comeback, they first decide on a concept and then write songs; it’s not common to create a concept based on a song.
This is also why songs in the music library rarely become title tracks; it’s not that these songs aren’t good enough, but rather that the approach is incorrect.
“Yes.”
“Let me see.” Kim Tae-yeon took out her phone, logged into the DM Entertainment APP, and saw the five latest songs in the music library, all uploaded by Jiang Shu.
“They’re all the Chairman’s songs,” Kim Tae-yeon said, clicking on the first song and playing all five songs one by one.
Although Sun Shengwan had heard them, she didn’t interrupt, but instead listened to the songs with Kim Tae-yeon.
“Saranghae Choriwa~~~”
In the third song, as Jiang Shu’s voice began to ring out, Kim Tae-yeon’s eyes immediately lit up.
“I want this song!” Kim Tae-yeon said decisively.
“Let me see.” Sun Shengwan stood up and leaned over.
“Four Seasons”
“This song is indeed quite good, but…” Sun Shengwan paused halfway through her sentence.
Kim Tae-yeon looked at her in confusion. Sun Shengwan didn’t speak, but instead clicked on the song’s details. As she entered the details page, Kim Tae-yeon understood the reason for Sun Shengwan’s hesitation.
Song Title: “Four Seasons”
Lyricist: Jiang Shu
Composer: Jiang Shu
IU (Certified) wants this song.
Kim Tae-yeon’s grip on her phone suddenly tightened.
Songs in the music library can be viewed by many people. What happens when you see a song you want?
You click that you want it, and then you find the song producer.
This meant that if Kim Tae-yeon also wanted this song, she would have to compete with Lee Ji-eun.
