Chapter 59: The Great Angelic Main Vocalist is About to Arrive
After reading the brief report, Jiang Shu immediately flipped to the back, finding Sun Shengwan’s resume form.
He looked at the sunny smiling face in the photo section.
Seeing that untouched face, with the same features as when Jiang Shu first met Sun Shengwan, a hint of remembrance flashed in Jiang Shu’s eyes.
It had been a long time since he had seen Teacher Sun look like this…
Jiang Shu pulled Sun Shengwan’s profile from the file and handed it to Choi Ji-yeon.
“Bring her over.”
Choi Ji-yeon took the profile, listened to the familiar tone, and looked at the profile in her hand, which belonged to Sun Shengwan.
Okay, another trainee added to the roster.
Choi Ji-yeon silently bowed to Jiang Shu, then turned to call Sun Shengwan.
Jiang Shu slowly leaned back in his chair, looking forward to meeting Sun Shengwan.
Unlike any other artist he had met, Sun Shengwan was different.
Not only was she the first main vocalist Jiang Shu was about to interact with, but there was also a sense of meeting an old acquaintance.
Even if, for Sun Shengwan, she didn’t recognize Jiang Shu at all.
Soon after, Choi Ji-yeon led in a short girl with long black hair draped over her shoulders.
Looking at her delicate face, which hadn’t yet been forced to change due to an accident, a sigh of regret uncontrollably emerged in Jiang Shu’s eyes.
In the real world, the first time Jiang Shu encountered Red Velvet was because of this girl in front of him.
At that time, she was just like she was now: delicate, beautiful, and sunny, radiating a warm glow like a little angel, warming everyone around her.
But after late 2019, Jiang Shu never saw this beautiful girl again; even though she remained kind and sunny, the person in his memory had quietly disappeared.
She shouldn’t have had to go through that.
Sun Shengwan looked at Jiang Shu with confusion.
Sun Shengwan was still chatting with two other vocal teachers in the vocal room when she was suddenly called over by the CEO’s secretary.
Before coming to DM Entertainment, Sun Shengwan didn’t know much about Jiang Shu, only that he was a second-generation chaebol and had extremely high talent in music.
(The general Korean public’s perception of a second-generation chaebol is more akin to a rich second-generation, not a true heir to a monopoly enterprise.)
Beyond that, there was nothing else.
When Sun Shengwan saw Jiang Shu with her own eyes, her first reaction was, “Handsome!”
This young CEO of DM Entertainment had really high visuals.
But the next second, Sun Shengwan was drawn to the way he looked at her.
What kind of gaze was that?
Why did his eyes hold such an indescribable complex emotion when he looked at her, as if he was looking at a long-lost old friend?
This thought startled Sun Shengwan.
She was very sure that she and Jiang Shu didn’t know each other.
She had been studying in Canada until she finished her graduate studies before returning to Korea with her parents.
Sun Shengwan originally planned to find a job according to her major, but a friend once mentioned at a gathering that she sang very well, and why didn’t she pursue a career in music?
Sun Shengwan had been exposed to music very early, but her true systematic learning was during her studies. She was indeed very talented, with only six or seven years of systematic study, yet she had already reached a very high level.
After hearing her friend’s suggestion, Sun Shengwan, holding the idea of giving it a try, came to DM Entertainment to apply.
Compared to vocal teachers from professional institutions, she indeed had some shortcomings, but her music performance ability was strong enough to compensate for this technical deficiency, thus allowing her to successfully get the job.
And then, she appeared here.
She hadn’t even been in Korea for half a year, so how could she know Jiang Shu?
But his gaze…
Jiang Shu had also come back to his senses at this moment; he was just a little emotional seeing Sun Shengwan looking like this again.
He had read Sun Shengwan’s profile. The twenty-four-year-old Sun Shengwan had returned to Korea after completing her master’s degree in Canada, and he hadn’t expected such a highly educated talent to choose to apply for a vocal teacher position.
He lowered his head and glanced at the profile.
Hmm, he hadn’t misread; it was part-time.
That made sense.
Vocal teachers could certainly work part-time; they didn’t need to be at the company all day, and many were part-timers. A highly educated talent like Sun Shengwan, even if she loved music, wouldn’t work full-time as a vocal teacher.
Jiang Shu had noticed Sun Shengwan’s evaluation scores; there was still a gap compared to the other two vocal teachers, but her music performance ability score was the highest.
How could it not be high?
This was the main vocalist of Red Velvet, the top main vocalist of the fourth generation.
Sun Shengwan (A)
Bonds: Maoxuewang (5), Main Vocalist (1).
Main Vocalist:
Effect: When activated, 100% actualization of vocal talent, reaching the upper limit of vocal talent in a very short time. However, within the group, popularity level can at most be second. When soloing, this negative effect is removed.
The Main Vocalist bond wasn’t exclusive to Sun Shengwan; many people had it, but only three people could truly suppress the negative effect to the minimum.
With Bae Joo-hyun in Red Velvet, it was destined that the other four could only compete for second place. This negative effect was as good as non-existent for Sun Shengwan.
In terms of bond attributes alone, Sun Shengwan was far inferior to the S-card Bae Joo-hyun, but her Main Vocalist bond ensured that Red Velvet would never lack a main vocalist.
What did it mean to actualize talent 100% in a very short time?
This meant that even if Sun Shengwan had no vocal foundation whatsoever, she could complete a magnificent transformation from a music novice to a main vocalist in a very short time.
How outrageous was that?
In a sense, Sun Shengwan was a quick-fix cornerstone. Whether taken out for a solo or placed within Red Velvet, she could be plug-and-play, something the other four members of Red Velvet couldn’t do.
Jiang Shu looked up at Sun Shengwan opposite him, a smile spreading across his face.
“Wendy, interested in debuting?”
Choi Ji-yeon behind Sun Shengwan was expressionless.
When she saw the smile on Jiang Shu’s face, she had already guessed what Jiang Shu was going to say next.
But Sun Shengwan couldn’t guess.
Upon hearing Jiang Shu’s words, she froze in place.
“Huh?”
“We and…” Jiang Shu told Sun Shengwan about the group DM Entertainment was launching in collaboration with S.M. Entertainment, which lacked a main vocalist.
“Interested in being the main vocalist of our Red Velvet?”
Sun Shengwan was still processing Jiang Shu’s words.
DM Entertainment, which had the currently most popular girl group IVE, was going to jointly launch a girl group called Red Velvet with industry leader S.M. Entertainment, but this girl group currently lacked a main vocalist, so Jiang Shu wanted her to be Red Velvet’s main vocalist?
“The girl group’s style and concept were already decided, weren’t they? Me joining midway…?”
Sun Shengwan saying this meant she was already tempted.
Jiang Shu’s lips curved into a wild smile.
“Red Velvet’s style will change because of you.”
Sun Shengwan’s mouth slightly widened.
Choi Ji-yeon rubbed her forehead.
Another one tricked by the CEO.
