Chapter 23: Big Melee

Under the moonlit night, one person and two Ariados were engaged in a chase.

Lin Fan sidestepped a flying Poison Sting, then took a big leap to avoid a coiling String Shot, cursing silently in his heart.

He glanced at the surrounding environment, and a smile finally appeared at the corner of his mouth.

“Sorry to disturb your sleep so late.”

Although he said he was sorry, Lin Fan’s movements did not stop for a moment.

Picking up a few pebbles, Lin Fan threw them forcefully in one direction, and they landed with a “thud.”

Although this action brought the two Ariados behind him a step closer, Lin Fan was not flustered at all.

He quickly pulled out a pair of earplugs from his bag, tightly covered his ears, and continued to run wildly.

The next moment, a series of huge Growls rang out, shaking the leaves from the surrounding trees, and even the ground rippled slightly.

Lin Fan gasped, a pained expression on his face.

Although the earplugs blocked some of the sound, the enormous Growl still gave him an unbearable headache.

“As expected of the Whismur family, their voices are loud.”

Whismur, the Whisper Pokémon, usually speaks in a soft voice that is hard to hear unless you listen carefully, but if it senses danger, it will let out a headache-inducing Growl.

There were about twenty Whismur here, and their combined Growl was incredibly powerful, not to mention they had a leader who had evolved into a Loudred, whose voice was several times louder.

As the thought arose, a deafening roar reverberated through the surrounding area, startling countless Pidgey and Spearow, and scattering numerous resting Pokémon.

“Damn it.”

Lin Fan felt a bit dizzy from the shock, and his speed also slowed down.

Fortunately, he wasn't the only one affected; the two unprepared Ariados suffered even more, their pursuit stopping abruptly as they furiously sprayed out String Shot.

Just as Lin Fan breathed a sigh of relief, he saw the larger Ariados that had appeared first suddenly look at him, then disregard everything and continue its pursuit.

“I… F***!”

After a string of profanities, Lin Fan continued to run wildly, feeling somewhat helpless.

Logically, this was the periphery of the Water Moon Forest, where the Pokémon were not particularly strong.

Whether it was the Beedrill family or the Whismur family, their average strength was around Lv.15.

Who would have thought that two such powerful Ariados would appear?

Especially the larger one, Lin Fan estimated its strength was close to Lv.30, almost at the level of a high-level Pokémon.

However, fortunately, there was a disturbance ahead, and a familiar “buzzing” sound faintly reached Lin Fan’s ears, causing him to breathe a sigh of relief.

If he had been the first to intrude into the Beedrill family’s territory, it might not have been possible for the Beedrill and Ariados to fight as expected.

But now, the Beedrill family was awakened by the Whismur family and actively came out.

If they encountered both Lin Fan and the Ariados, they would most likely focus on the latter.

Hesitating for a moment, Lin Fan took out a Poké Ball, and with a flash of red light, Weedle was once again perched on Lin Fan’s head.

“When we encounter the Beedrill, quickly show goodwill and tell them the Ariados behind us wants to eat you.”

Lin Fan urgently instructed Weedle, and the little fellow nodded heavily, its gaze firm.

It couldn't help much with the escape just now, but now it was finally its time to shine, and it was determined to fulfill Lin Fan's Temporary employee .

Thinking this, Weedle suddenly lowered its head sadly, not expecting that at such a moment, as Lin Fan’s Pokémon, it couldn't help him.

Its strength was still too weak, just like when it survived alone in the forest, anyone could treat it as food.

“Hey, what are you thinking about?”

Lin Fan patted Weedle irritably while estimating the distance between himself and the Ariados.

He keenly sensed the little guy's frustration and naturally knew what Weedle was thinking at that moment.

“I am your Trainer, and you are my starter Pokémon; we are one.

We prosper together, and we suffer together.

If you feel like you're dragging me down, then you should work harder to improve your strength so that you can protect me from danger in the future, instead of being sentimental and overthinking things here, understand?”

“Woo!”

Weedle froze, vaguely seeing Lin Fan’s serious face from above, its eyes regaining their firmness as it let out a powerful cry.

Lin Fan was right, it had to become stronger, so that no matter what difficulties they encountered, it could protect Lin Fan well.

That would be the best outcome.

Lin Fan smiled, then sidestepped another Poison Sting from the Ariados, patting the Weedle on his head reassuringly.

Timely attention to one's Pokémon's emotions and providing correct guidance is also something a qualified Trainer should do.

The so-called bond is established through one such event after another, and it is precisely for this reason that in desperate situations, the bond can unleash such powerful strength.

Glancing at the relentless Ariados, Lin Fan felt a headache but also secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, he was targeted by Ariados this time, not by a Pokémon like Liepard.

The former is not good at speed, even this powerful Ariados.

If it weren't for its fierce long-range attacks, which always forced Lin Fan to dodge and thus slow down, Lin Fan was confident he could have shaken them off directly.

The latter's specialty is stealth and speed.

If he had been targeted by a Liepard of equal strength, Lin Fan would already be drinking Meng Po's soup in the underworld and starting over.

Buzz, buzz, buzz—

The familiar buzzing grew louder, and it seemed that because they heard Weedle's cry, they were rapidly approaching Lin Fan's location.

Soon, the familiar yellow and black stripes appeared before Lin Fan’s eyes, and he was overjoyed.

However, before the smile on his lips could widen, it suddenly froze, and he frantically rolled to the side in a messy tumble.

Hiss, hiss—

A corrosive sound rang out, white smoke rose from the fallen leaves, and the Poison Sting, transformed into Poison-type energy, gradually dissipated into the world.

“I… F***!”

Another string of profanities erupted, Lin Fan gritting his teeth.

He looked at the wound on his arm, struck by a Poison Sting, and without time to treat it, he desperately continued to run.

He had a completely new understanding of Beedrill as a Pokémon.

Especially when he saw a small portion of the Beedrill running to chase him, while the majority of the Beedrill went to attack the Ariados.

But fortunately, he was a cautious person and always planned his Escape route well.

Putting the indignant, constantly cursing Weedle back into its Poké Ball, Lin Fan ran wildly in his chosen direction, and soon saw a winding, long river.

“Goodbye, everyone.”

Lin Fan jumped into the river with a “thud,” drifting downstream with the current, and sneered at the bewildered Beedrill on the bank.

The summer river water was not cold, but the feeling of being soaked in clothes was certainly not pleasant.

So, after simply treating the wound on his arm, at a bend in the river, Lin Fan came ashore from the water, without a moment's pause, and using the cover of night and dense trees, he ran wildly upstream.

That was precisely the territory of the Beedrill family.

When Lin Fan encountered the Beedrill family just now, he had already roughly assessed the number of them that had been dispatched.

Very fortunately, the Beedrill had chosen to come out in full force, so at this moment, within the Beedrill family, there were only some restless Weedle and motionless Kakuna.

“You greeted me with a volley of Poison Sting, didn’t you? Now, the tables have turned.”
