Chapter 53: Expensive materials

Although Lin Fan knew early on that this was the work of an Elite Poison-type Trainer and the content must be extraordinary, he was still amazed by its extremely wide scope and highly professional knowledge and terminology.

From dietary habits to living customs, from physical training to skill learning, everything was covered in meticulous detail, far beyond the crude information circulating on the market.

And this was only the introductory version. Lin Fan found it hard to imagine what the advanced version would contain, and for the first time, he deeply realized that he still had a long way to go to become an excellent Trainer.

"Toxic Trait: Corrosion Chapter."

Lin Fan's gaze focused on one of the sections. Beedrill's toxin nature was corrosive, not purely poisonous.

"To enhance the intensity of corrosive toxins, you need the Poison Powder of the Vileplume Family, the Secretion of the Victreebel Family, and the Poison Gas of the Weezing Family…"

Lin Fan's eyelids twitched. These items did not harm the corresponding Pokémon's bodies, so their use was permitted.

But he had a bad feeling. If this was the introductory version, what materials would the advanced version use?

Continuing to read, Lin Fan gasped.

"Tanga Berry, Poison Sting, Black Sludge, Toxic Orb…"

No wonder it was said that there was no point in visiting a Poison-type Gym if you had no money.

He simply couldn't afford the materials needed!

Especially the Toxic Orb, which had a market price of at least a million and was almost impossible to find; it would be bought instantly the moment it appeared.

The 200,000 bonus he had just earned, after deducting the cost of resources and the 10,000 he owed Su Ling, plus the 150,000 given by Lin Dad and Lin Mom, was barely enough for Beedrill to use a simple set of resources.

Lin Fan clutched his chest, feeling a pang of heartache.

The money hadn't even warmed his hands before it was about to fly away.

Sighing, Lin Fan turned the page and looked at the skill learning section.

This section covered most Poison-type skills, from basic ones like Poison Sting, Acid, and Poison Powder, to more advanced ones like Sludge Bomb, Cross Poison, and Gunk Shot.

Although Beedrill had great talent in Poison-type abilities, its training time was relatively short, and its progress in developing Poison-type skills was insufficient. With this item, this deficiency could be very well compensated.

Recalling all the Poison-type skills in Beedrill's skill pool, Lin Fan pondered for a moment and finally set his sights on Poison Jab.

Although Beedrill could also learn a relatively simpler skill like Poison Fang, Poison Fang was a special attack skill, and its effect would not be good if used by Beedrill.

Skills are about quality, not quantity. Lin Fan deeply agreed with this statement.

But then again, what was the difference between Poison Jab and Poison Sting? Both involved stinging the opponent with a poisonous needle, yet there was a huge difference in power.

With a questioning mind, Lin Fan continued to flip to the page about learning Poison Jab and observed it carefully.

"The use of Poison Jab and Poison Sting is very similar… Oh, great minds think alike, indeed." Lin Fan nodded in agreement.

"But the difference lies in the degree of energy condensation. By compressing several times the Poison-type energy required for Poison Sting to the same volume as the energy required for Poison Sting, Poison Jab can be used."

Sounds simple enough, Lin Fan confidently closed the scroll, his gaze falling on the blinking Beedrill. He opened his mouth but found he had no idea what to say.

Beedrill, compress the Poison-type energy inside your body?

Who would understand that?!

Energy isn't like playdough that can be freely compressed. Although it looks like colorful air that seems easily compressible, in reality, if you dare to compress it, the energy will explode in your face.

No wonder it's just the introductory version; it only tells you to compress energy but doesn't tell you how to compress energy!

Lin Fan broke down and perished.

After his sorrow, Lin Fan sighed and decided to postpone learning Poison Jab. After all, Poison Sting was sufficient for now.

He could actually understand why the scroll didn't explicitly describe how to learn Poison Jab. After all, among the many physical Poison-type skills, Poison Jab was already one of the top-tier moves, and its learning secret was a valuable resource.

Pokémon only appeared a hundred years ago, and the profession of Trainer only truly rose a few decades ago. Such high-power secret techniques would naturally not be easily spread, and over time, a semi-monopolized state formed, where only a select group of people at the top could freely enjoy these precious secret techniques.

Since the matter of Poison Jab couldn't be rushed for now, he should first consider how to obtain those materials.

Sun Qi is a Junior Breeder; he should know some ways. He would ask him tomorrow.

Having made up his mind, Lin Fan yawned, comfortably lay on the bed, and lazily said, "Beedrill, turn off the light."

Clap.

The room instantly fell silent, and Beedrill returned to its comfortable nest, gradually falling asleep.

......

The night passed uneventfully.

After grabbing a few buns from home for breakfast, Lin Fan set off to visit Sun Qi.

He had initially worried that not notifying him in advance might lead to a wasted trip, but upon arriving and seeing the slightly ajar door, Lin Fan breathed a sigh of relief; he hadn't come for nothing.

He knocked on the door, and after hearing a response from inside, Lin Fan pushed open the door and walked towards the source of the sound.

"Sun Ge," Lin Fan greeted, looking at Sun Qi, who was currently holding a book and reading it carefully.

Seeing Lin Fan, Sun Qi was quite pleased. He put down the book in his hand, smiled, and walked over to give Lin Fan a hug.

"I was a bit busy before and didn't check the news. I only saw the news of your victory in the Zero Moon Cup this morning. I heard there was even a Gym Leader's child among them. You're quite something."

Lin Fan smiled, "Just luck."

After the pleasantries, Lin Fan got straight to the point: "It's like this, Sun Ge. I currently need some resources to enhance Beedrill's strength, but these things are hard to buy, so I was hoping you could help me out."

Seeing Sun Qi nod, Lin Fan continued, "The Poison Powder of the Vileplume Family, the Secretion of the Victreebel Family, and the Poison Gas of the Weezing Family—these are the three things I need most right now. They're quite difficult to buy; they're not sold in stores, so I could only come to you for help."

"These things, huh?" Sun Qi was a bit surprised. "They are indeed hard to buy, but I have a way. Leave it to me."

"Thank you so much, Sun Ge." Hearing Sun Qi's words, Lin Fan breathed a sigh of relief. He was afraid that even Sun Qi wouldn't know where to get these things, as generally, no one would use them, so there wasn't much of a market.

Sun Qi waved his hand and smiled, "No need to thank me. I actually have something to tell you too. I plan to go to the Magic City during National Day for the Intermediate Breeder assessment. Would you like to come with me and try the Junior Breeder assessment then?"

Breeder assessment?
