Heavenly fire fell upon the earth, easily igniting the weeds in the wasteland. The scorching flames turned the surroundings into a living hell, and black smoke from the burning rose upwards.
Such a commotion, even in the outskirts, would eventually be noticed by the people in Pingdie Town. By then, it wouldn't be long before the siren of Jenny’s police car could be heard.
We must finish this quickly.
Mimikyu followed beside Luo Mu, its giant Shadow Claw tearing through the flames. Luo Mu looked up, meeting Moltres’s fiery red eyes without fear, and shouted, “Dragonite!”
A strong gust of wind hit them. Moltres merely blinked, and Dragonite was already hovering silently in front of it.
Moltres’s pupils instantly constricted. Ignoring its heart, which was pounding violently due to Dragonite’s speed, it realized Dragonite was flying even higher than itself. Feeling its authority challenged, Moltres let out a piercing cry, and a Heat Wave carrying scorching sparks swept towards Dragonite.
“Booh!”
Dragonite flapped its wings rapidly, instantly stirring the air. The howling wind seemed to form a domain, not only completely neutralizing the Heat Wave but also allowing countless tiny wind blades formed by the airflow to carve their marks onto Moltres’s body.
While controlling the storm, Dragonite let out an earth-shattering Dragon Pulse towards the sky. Thick dark clouds instantly gathered, and large raindrops fell like a waterfall.
Rain Dance and the storm formed a perfect combo. The raindrops made contact with the flames on Moltres’s body, evaporating into white steam that lingered over the battlefield in the sky. Moltres endured the attacks purely by relying on its bottomless stamina, but that was all it could do.
It was too difficult for it to escape the cage created by Dragonite with its current power.
Moltres tried to use its own storm to clash with Dragonite’s storm, and also tried to blast a path with its most proficient Flamethrower, but all of this was easily nullified by Dragonite.
Mimikyu’s Shadow Claw was held above Luo Mu’s head, shielding him from the rain. The strong wind ruffled his clothes. Luo Mu observed Moltres’s move strength, demeanor, and experience, and a judgment formed in his mind.
This Moltres was very young. Both its mindset and the undisguised rawness when using its moves indicated that this Moltres had very little battle experience and knowledge.
Dragonite’s storm and Rain Dance were not unbreakable. For example, during the Champion Assessment in the Paldea League, Ye Ci’s Kingambit broke through it with sheer power.
In the few seconds Luo Mu was contemplating, Moltres seemed to have finally found the trick. Its flying energy transformed into a Brave Bird burning with intense sky-blue flames, enveloping its body. At the cost of several deep wounds appearing on its body, Moltres gathered all its strength and, with the momentum of an eagle soaring through the sky, forcefully broke through the domain of wind.
Dragonite blinked, not angered by Moltres breaking through its domain. It simply maintained its flying posture and watched Moltres gasp for breath, looking disheveled.
Noticing that the injuries on Moltres’s body were still healing at an extremely fast rate, Luo Mu marveled at how rich legendary Pokemon’s resources truly were, along with their unique natural talent. It had found the weak point of the combo move so quickly and decisively broke through at the cost of injury.
His thoughts concluded, Luo Mu, who had been mindful of finishing quickly, waved his right hand and shouted to the sky, “Thunder!!”
Dragonite’s response was extremely swift. A muffled thunderclap exploded within the thick dark clouds, and lightning snakes rolled across the clouds. In an instant, a vast golden current streaked across the sky, as if it were a judgment from the god of Thunder. The current transformed into a raging sea of lightning, continuously exploding on Moltres’s body.
The ear-splitting Roars were incessant. Luxray’s golden eyes looked towards the sky, nodding in satisfaction.
Dragonite’s Thunder had some of Luxray’s style.
At the Pingdie Town police station, Jenny, who had received a report, opened the window and looked at the thick thunderclouds gathered only over that area in the outskirts, while above her head, the sky was still clear.
Growlithe, beside Jenny, was trembling uncontrollably, its tail tucked between its legs, yet it still let out a threatening Roar towards the sky.
Jenny tightened her grip on the police car keys, muttering to herself, “If I die in the line of duty, there should be a pension, right?”
Farm, Lake Area.
Luo Mu watched the huge crater rapidly forming under Dragonite’s relentless bombardment, and asked Mimikyu beside him, “Once the lake water is drawn in, how about we call this lake Thunderclap Lake?”
Mimikyu, always deferring to Luo Mu, naturally nodded in agreement.
The Roar of Thunder lasted for a full minute.
The Thunder gradually ceased, the sea of lightning dissipated, and the target of Dragonite’s attack, Moltres’s figure, slowly emerged.
Most of Moltres’s feathers were now charred black, the flames burning on its body had become incredibly faint, and even its instinctive flight was shaky.
Undoubtedly, Moltres was at its last gasp.
Even in such a state, Moltres still kept its unfocused eyes open, stubbornly refusing to fall to the ground.
“Goodness, a legendary Pokemon’s stamina is truly absurd,” Luo Mu said with an expression of awe, a hint of respect rising in his heart. Moltres’s performance was worthy of its inherently noble status.
Somehow, Moltres’s unfocused eyes looked at Luo Mu’s figure on the ground, untouched by the raindrops, as calm and unbothered as when he arrived, as if it wanted to imprint Luo Mu’s image into its heart.
With respect for Moltres’s tenacious Guts, Luo Mu spoke, putting an end to this battle whose outcome was decided from the start: “Dragon Pulse.”
A sky-blue dragon-shaped phantom let out a high-pitched dragon Roar towards the sky, tearing through the air under Dragonite’s control, completely engulfing Moltres’s body.
Dragonite VS Moltres, Dragonite wins!
By the time Moltres woke up, it was already night.
Jenny, who had come to investigate, had already been sent back by Luo Mu with some fabricated reasons. Its scarred body had also been properly treated by Luo Mu, and some deep, bone-visible wounds had mostly healed.
“Awake?”
Luo Mu sat on a small chair, adding a piece of firewood to the crackling fire in front of him.
Moltres turned its eyes, letting out a weak Growl from its beak, seemingly wondering why Luo Mu would treat it. It didn’t even feel the sense of confinement after being caught by a Poké Ball.
Although Moltres was young, it still knew most common sense.
For example, legendary Pokemon like itself were highly sought after by Trainers. During the period it was defeated and severely injured by Dragonite and fell unconscious, it definitely wouldn’t have had the strength to resist the power of a Poké Ball, and the success rate of capture would have been 100%.
Luo Mu tilted his head. Perhaps it was a unique ability of legendary Pokemon, but he could actually understand Moltres’s meaning. In response to Moltres’s confusion, Luo Mu asked in return, “Why would I capture you? Do you want to be captured?”
Moltres felt that it didn’t want to be. If it woke up to find itself inside a Poké Ball, the most likely outcome would be to desperately resist or completely disobey commands.
“Then that’s that,” Luo Mu clapped the dust from his hands, leaned closer to Moltres, and smiled, “Besides, your power isn’t strong enough for me to be desperate to capture you.”
Moltres awkwardly turned its head away. Although what Luo Mu said was true, once it sobered up from its anger, it did realize that it couldn’t beat any of the Pokemon by Luo Mu’s side at that time.
But why, besides unwillingness, was there also a hint of disappointment in its heart?
Moltres only felt that this emotion was particularly unfamiliar.
