Chapter 7: Yveltal reading a book

In the forest at night, Gui Ling set up a tent and built a bonfire, roasting some other meat on it; he really didn't want to eat fish these past few days...

Gengar and Noibat were eating apples, Banette was sleeping while hugging his doll, and Froakie was still diligently practicing his sword nearby, though he was a bit displeased that Gui Ling said it was time to rest and wouldn't practice with him.

Gui Ling was by the bonfire, reading a Pokémon encyclopedia that Professor Platane had lent him.

“Gui Ling, it seems you don't know much about some Pokémon. This book contains the Pokédex of all Pokémon in the Kalos region. You should learn about them.”

“Thank you, Professor.”

To be precise, Gui Ling indeed didn't know much; he had only watched three seasons, and those were precisely from the Kalos region, which was why he agreed to that cocoon coming to this place.

“So many Pokémon I haven't seen. It seems I still know too little about this world.”

By the firelight, Gui Ling read with great interest, silently memorizing the unfamiliar Pokémon.

“There are even Legendary Pokémon?”

On the Legendary Pokémon page, there were not only Legendary Pokémon from the Kalos region but also from other regions.

“Rayquaza? This is the one I'm most familiar with.”

Gui Ling saw Rayquaza at first glance, and he had the idea of catching it, but reality was cruel, unlike his beautiful imagination...

“Damn it... sigh, never mind. By the way, do you have any thoughts?”

Gui Ling spoke to the cocoon behind him; he had noticed earlier that the cocoon was also observing the book.

“…………”

A huge eagle head emerged from the cocoon, a pair of blue eyes glowing with a faint purple light.

This was the first time Gui Ling had a good look at the cocoon's head. After smelling the aroma, he handed the book to the cocoon.

“The meat is ready. I'll go get it. You can read if you want.”

“…………”

After a while, Gui Ling placed some roasted meat and a few fruits in front of the cocoon, but surprisingly, the cocoon didn't dive into the plate to eat today; instead, it stared intently at the book.

“So eager to learn? I never had that ability before. If I did, I would have already gone to Tsinghua University...”

Gui Ling looked at Froakie, who was still practicing, then walked over with a tang katana and handed Froakie a fruit.

“Take a break. I'll practice with you in a bit.”

“Froakie!”

Gui Ling practiced swordplay with Froakie for a while, then went to find Banette and the others to practice together.

“Banette, from my observations these past few days, I think your most powerful move should be Will-O-Wisp.”

“Banette!”

“You can try to master your Will-O-Wisp to the extreme, but this will require pressure.”

“Banette!”

Banette readily agreed. The battle today had put him in a very good mood. He even thought about fighting a Mega Evolved Glalie, so he definitely had to become stronger himself.

“Gengar, you can try Psychic. It should be very helpful against Flying-types.”

“Gengar!”

“Noibat, practice flying. You can try with weights.”

“Noibat.”

The planned practice began and lasted for half the night. By morning, everyone, in a tacit understanding, slept in.

Gui Ling opened the tent at noon and saw that the cocoon had changed back. The book had already been flipped through countless times.

“It finished reading already? I remember it was still reading when I went to sleep yesterday.”

Gui Ling picked up the book, put it in his backpack, recalled the cocoon into its Poké Ball, and began to pack other things, preparing to catch other Pokémon.

………………

Yveltal was almost sleepless all night, diligently reading everything recorded in the book. How many years had it been? It had only been sleeping, just wanting to find a place to slumber forever.

The most familiar to it was its arch-nemesis, the life god Xerneas. Besides that, it didn't recognize any other Pokémon. No matter what kind of Pokémon, none could withstand a single Death Wing from it, so it had never paid attention.

But this book directly opened its understanding of Pokémon and made it realize that there were other Legendary Pokémon as powerful as itself.

In the past, it would definitely choose to slack off; as long as they didn't provoke it, it wouldn't bother to find them. However, these past few dozens of days had changed Yveltal's mood somewhat. Its morning temper seemed less severe than before, but the prerequisite was that Gui Ling had to prepare food.

“…………”

Yveltal still remembered Gui Ling mentioning Rayquaza. It had even carefully learned about it. If it were to fight Rayquaza, it wasn't confident of winning in the air; it was a very powerful fellow.

However, an idea flashed through Yveltal's mind: it wanted to defeat Rayquaza. This was probably influenced by Gui Ling's personality.
