Chapter 3: Chapter 3 Top 128 Qualifying Tournament

Jiangcheng Elf Academy.

502 Male Dormitory.

“I’m so damn unlucky! Just one more match, just one more match!”

Guo Yang slumped in his gaming chair, an empty Moomoo Milk carton crumpled in his hand.

He looked utterly dejected, wailing at the ceiling.

“Why did I have to run into Bai Ke!”

“You guys don’t know how messed up her Braixen is. My Shinx couldn’t even get close before it was barraged by Will-O-Wisp and Psychic. It was so frustrating!”

The student dormitories at Jiangcheng University were standard four-person rooms, with bunk beds and desks underneath, offering ample space.

Besides Chen Luo and Wang Peng, the other two were Guo Yang, from Jinling, who was currently immersed in the pain of elimination.

The other was Liu Guanzhang, a local of Jiangcheng, stout and simple-minded, sitting at his desk, meticulously wiping a groove on a Poké Ball.

“Alright, Old Guo, you’ve been howling for an hour. Doesn’t your throat hurt?”

Wang Peng rolled his eyes at the remark.

“Just wait until I meet her in the arena; I’ll have my Corphish avenge you!”

“Yeah, me too!”

Liu Guanzhang looked up, serious, and rumbled in agreement, “My Clauncher will Water Gun her!”

Guo Yang waved his hand weakly: “Forget it, just you two? I made it to the Top 128.” He covered his face, as if he had lost millions.

Wang Peng scrolled on his phone: “Tsk, class group message. The statistics are out; fifteen people from our class made it to the Top 128.”

“Our dorm is still pretty good; three of us made it.”

Guo Yang said: “Hey, hey, hey, are you calling me out? Don’t I want to make it to the Top 128 and bring glory to our 502 dorm?”

Wang Peng chuckled mischievously: “Not at all. I just wanted to say our class is impressive. Some classes only have a single digit number of people in the Top 128.”

The spacious dorm rooms were specially designed.

They were large enough for students to release their small or medium-sized Pokémon partners within a safe range to foster their bond.

Wang Peng’s Corphish was quietly resting by the Pokéblock dish in the corner.

Liu Guanzhang’s Clauncher was lying in a basin, blowing bubbles.

Guo Yang’s Shinx was curled up listlessly at its owner’s feet, seemingly sensing its owner’s dejection.

Chen Luo’s Sandile was squatting beside a brand new transparent terrarium, filled with fine yellow sand and mimicking a small dune.

This was Chen Luo’s “Desert Home,” which he had custom-ordered at a high price last night after seeing it online.

Chen Luo sat at his desk, entering the Pokémon Home to see if there was anything suitable for Sandile.

He clicked on his personal account.

Ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, hundred thousands, millions…

Chen Luo’s eyes suddenly widened, and his breath hitched.

He instinctively gasped, letting out a short, startled cry from his throat: “Holy crap!”

The sound was particularly abrupt in the dorm, instantly interrupting Guo Yang’s wailing and Wang Peng’s chatter.

“What’s wrong with Chen Luo? Why are you so jumpy?” Wang Peng turned his head.

“Nothing… nothing!” Chen Luo snapped back to reality, his heart still pounding, trying to force a calm smile onto his face.

“It’s just… I just saw some incredibly outrageous news! It’s too shocking!”

“What news, what news?”

Guo Yang instantly perked up, his gossip-loving soul burning brightly, temporarily casting aside the sadness of his elimination.

Chen Luo’s mind raced, combining it with absurd jokes he had seen online in his previous life.

“It’s about a sixty-something old man, cross-dressing. They say… he scammed over three thousand men into… uh, doing that with him!”

“Pfft!” Wang Peng spat out the water he had just drunk.

“Huh?!” Liu Guanzhang looked shocked and bewildered.

“Holy crap!!!” Guo Yang’s eyes instantly widened more than brass bells, his voice cracking.

“Three… three thousand?!”

“And cross-dressing?!”

“Sixty-something?!”

“Are you even speaking Chinese?”

“Is this old man made of iron?!”

“Apparently, there were even a few Machamp among them… I don’t know how he managed it…” Chen Luo shrugged mysteriously.

“Machamp? Holy crap!!” Guo Yang completely lost it, springing up from his chair.

“Is this news real? What platform is it from? Show it to me quickly!”

“That’s too outrageous! I have to see this!” Wang Peng didn’t even bother wiping the water off.

Even the simple-minded Liu Guanzhang put down his Poké Ball, his face clearly showing “I don’t quite understand but I’m deeply shocked,” and quickly opened his phone to search.

The dorm instantly erupted into a frenzy, with heated discussions about the “sixty-year-old cross-dressing master,” “three thousand strong men,” and “four Machamp.”

Guo Yang’s gloom from elimination was completely swept away by this earth-shattering gossip.

Chen Luo quietly breathed a sigh of relief, and while his roommates’ attention was completely diverted, he quickly turned his gaze back to his phone.

Looking at the string of numbers in his balance that resembled an ID card number, his heart pounded wildly again.

Chen Luo opened the Pokémon Resource Mall.

“Dark-type Pokéblocks… top quality, buy! Ten boxes!”

“Ground-type Pokéblocks, enhances Ground-type energy affinity and defense, buy! Ten boxes!”

“Advanced Pokémon weighted training device… adjustable weight, simulates different environmental resistance, buy!”

“Sandile-exclusive grinding stone, buy!”

His fingers flew across the screen, and the shopping cart total rapidly climbed.

Chen Luo didn’t hesitate for a moment, his finger lightly tapping the payment button.

Payment successful! Amount spent: ¥538,600.00

Looking at the payment successful notification, Chen Luo glanced at his account balance again.

Hmm, that long string of numbers… it didn’t seem to show any obvious change.

An indescribable feeling of “whale” extravagance, mixed with the ecstasy of “finally becoming a rich second generation,” instantly filled Chen Luo’s chest.

“Heaven has been kind to me!” Chen Luo cried tears of joy in his heart.

“It’s finally my turn to experience the joy of ‘problems that can be solved with money are not problems at all’!”

“I need to find a suitable time to ‘reconcile’ with my family.”

Not utilizing such a high-level resource pool wouldn’t be noble; it would be pure foolishness!

He began to plan how to “admit his mistakes” gracefully and re-embrace his parents’ golden thighs.

The next morning, the atmosphere at the Jiangcheng First Elf Academy’s battle arena was noticeably different.

The Top 128 to Top 64 matches began.

The number of participants sharply decreased, and the venues were correspondingly reduced, retaining only six of the most standard and well-equipped main arenas.

However, the audience stands were even more crowded than in previous days, with some older students and teachers also appearing.

The shouts of students from each class rose and fell, creating an even more tense and enthusiastic atmosphere.

The referees were all replaced by academy teachers, their expressions serious, their gazes sharp.

Chen Luo, Wang Peng, and Liu Guanzhang gathered outside Battle Arena Seven.

Wang Peng and Liu Guanzhang were a bit nervous, constantly stretching their wrists and taking deep breaths.

Chen Luo, however, appeared much calmer. He casually scanned the huge electronic screen hanging above the arena, which displayed the scrolling battle roster.

Soon, the broadcast announced:

“Arena Three, Class Three’s Chen Luo, against Class Five’s Sun Lei! Both contestants, please enter the arena!”

“It’s your turn, Luo Ge! Go for it!” Wang Peng clapped Chen Luo’s back hard.

“Go for it!” Liu Guanzhang also rumbled his encouragement.

Chen Luo nodded, calmly walking into the arena.

His opponent, Sun Lei, was a tall, burly boy with a buzz cut.

By the arena, the referee said in a deep voice: “The rules of the match are one-on-one. The battle ends when one Pokémon loses its ability to fight. Both sides, prepare!”

“Go, Geodude!” Sun Lei shouted, throwing his Poké Ball with force.

A red flash, and a round Pokémon made entirely of hard gray rock landed heavily on the arena!

Description: The Rock Pokémon. Its body is made of hard rock. Although its arms are short, it has immense strength and is skilled at rolling and charging.

“Sandile, prepare for battle!” Chen Luo threw his Poké Ball.

“Krokorok!”

Krokorok landed nimbly, its eyes behind its black goggles filled with vigilance, letting out a low, menacing growl from its throat.

“Battle—start!” The referee waved his arm.

“Geodude, Defense Curl!”

Sun Lei immediately adopted a defensive stance, boosting its defense.

Geodude let out a low growl, a gray light flashing across its body, becoming rounder and more solid, its defense increasing.

“Sandile, Sand Attack for interference!” Chen Luo tried to restrict the opponent’s vision.

Sandile raised its front claws, and dust flew towards Geodude.

However, Geodude merely squinted its eyes, barely affected.

Its rock body had strong resistance to sand!

“It’s useless! Geodude, use Rock Throw!” Sun Lei was full of confidence.

Geodude’s thick rock arms swung violently.

A millstone-sized hard rock condensed out of thin air, whistling through the wind, and smashed fiercely towards Sandile!

“Quick, dodge!” Chen Luo urgently called out.

Sandile agilely leaped sideways!

“Boom!”

The rock smashed into the spot where it had just stood, sending gravel flying! The shockwave made Sandile sway.

“Geodude, Rollout!” Sun Lei pressed his advantage.

Geodude’s body suddenly curled into a perfect rock sphere!

“Rumble rumble rumble—!” A heavy rolling sound echoed.

Geodude transformed into a high-speed spinning rock giant wheel, with an unstoppable momentum.

Its speed increased rapidly as it rolled! Its power doubled!

“Krokorok!” Krokorok felt a strong threat and once again leaped sideways to dodge with all its might!

The heavy rock giant wheel whistled past its body, the strong wind it generated stinging its scales!

“Don’t stop! Keep rolling!” Sun Lei roared.

Geodude carved a huge arc across the arena, with even more violent momentum, crushing towards Sandile again!

The power of Rollout continued to stack!

Sandile dodged clumsily at the edge of the arena, the heavy thuds and crushing sounds making the audience hold their breath.

Just as Geodude, with its destructive momentum, rolled towards Sandile for the third time, seemingly about to collide with the unavoidable Pokémon.

A sharp glint flashed in Chen Luo’s eyes, and he shouted sternly: “Now, Sandile, Sand Tomb!”

“Roar!” Sandile didn’t hesitate for a moment.

Its right front claw erupted with surging Ground-type energy, fiercely slamming into a spot slightly ahead of Geodude’s rolling path!

Boom!

A rapidly spinning quicksand vortex instantly formed.

“Rumble rumble rumble!” The high-speed rolling Geodude had no time to change direction or brake, plunging headfirst into the center of the quicksand vortex!

“What?!” Sun Lei’s confident expression instantly froze, and he gasped in surprise!

It was forcibly “pulled” out of its rolling state, its body struggling futilely in the quicksand.

“It’s not over yet!” Chen Luo’s voice carried cold determination, “Sandile, now! Crunch!”

“Sandile!”

Sandile let out a furious roar, opening its large mouth.

It fiercely pounced on Geodude, which was trapped and unable to move in the quicksand!

“Geodude, quickly break free!” Sun Lei shouted in horror, attempting a final struggle.

But Geodude, firmly trapped by the quicksand, couldn’t launch an effective counterattack at all!

“Crunch—!!”

“Roar!!!” Geodude let out an extremely painful wail.

The referee pushed up his glasses, his eyes filled with shock, then loudly announced: “Geodude has lost its ability to battle! Sandile wins! The qualifier is Chen Luo!”

After a brief silence, a deafening cheer erupted from Class Three’s direction!

“We won! So strong!”

“Sand Tomb broke Rollout, and a single Crunch was a knockout.”

“This Sandile is too strong; it actually knocked out Geodude with one Crunch.”
