Chapter 4: Bride Pickup 4

Everyone knew that Qu Zhaojia took leave to get married, but what was unexpected and explosive was that the bride suddenly backed out at the wedding, and Qu Zhaojia then left hand-in-hand with another girl.

A few colleagues who attended the wedding came back and vividly recounted the story to everyone in the company.

Qu Zhaojia hadn't even had a chance to log into his social media accounts yet, which were already full of enthusiastic greetings from friends and family.

Perhaps the original owner wasn't very low-key, so most of those who came to 'greet' him weren't sincere; they were mostly there to watch the drama unfold.

Having been the subject of open and subtle ridicule all morning, Qu Zhaojia was feeling a bit tired at this point, sitting in his office with his head drooped listlessly, primarily due to mental exhaustion.

The original owner had completely brought this upon himself; he didn't get along well with his colleagues at the company. Qu Zhaojia recalled that what the original owner considered a very promising game company was merely a product of a rich second-generation heir passing the time in his leisure.

Normally, they would develop a few small games, do some promotions for the parent company, and occasionally play games with the boss; basically, there wasn't much else to do.

It could largely be considered a retirement company. The original owner was willing to stay here because only here was he offered a supervisor position; other places wouldn't hire inexperienced employees and required starting from scratch.

However, the original owner, with his lofty ambitions, felt that as a graduate of a top-tier university, further bolstered by his student council president aura, how could he start by doing odd jobs? So, he ultimately chose to stay at this 'infinitely promising' company.

As long as he could gain the boss's favor, he could gradually take control of the company, become its head, and then his future would surely be bright.

Therefore, after joining Xuan Guang Games, the original owner tried every trick in the book, constantly flattering the boss whenever he caught him.

Whether the boss appreciated it or not was unknown, but this behavior was so egregious that even his own subordinates couldn't stand it.

Coupled with his frequent demands for new employees to work unpaid overtime and his refusal to approve sick leave for his subordinates, over time, no one in the company was willing to talk to him.

"Supervisor Qu, my mom is sick, and I'd like to take the afternoon off to go to the hospital to take care of her. She's there alone right now."

Qin Shuang had just graduated from college this year. Her school and major weren't particularly good, and after submitting many resumes, she was finally hired by Xuan Guang Games. She was currently a marketing specialist still in her probation period.

If her mother hadn't been sick, and there was no one else at home, leaving her alone in the hospital without care, Qin Shuang would never have brought herself to ask Qu Zhaojia.

Although she had only been with the company for a short time, Qu Zhaojia's reputation preceded him.

He didn't pay overtime, deducted three days' salary for probationary employees who took leave, and refused to approve personal leave for employees. His actions were outrageous. Many employees complained about his unreasonable behavior, but they were all recent graduates with no experience or connections.

If they quit a job they weren't happy with, then what? Starve?

The current job market wasn't good, so they could only endure for now and look for another job once they had stabilized.

Many people were watching Qin Shuang's predicament with amusement. Everyone knew about the mishap at Qu Zhaojia's wedding, and how he was deliberately put on the spot by his mother-in-law during the pick-up ceremony—a poor boy with no money, no house, and no car, yet dreaming of marrying a swan.

Their formidable supervisor could only act tough at the company; in front of his mother-in-law, he was nothing but obsequious.

Qu Zhaojia must be furious right now, and only a naive person like Qin Shuang would dare to approach him and court trouble; she was definitely going to get a severe scolding.

Qin Shuang also sensed that the atmosphere wasn't right, but her mother was still lying in the hospital, so she could only brace herself and proceed.

She was already prepared to be scolded and have three days' salary deducted.

However, the usual irritable voice did not sound. Qu Zhaojia was too clear about how his body's original owner used to be.

When he started his own company, a small company always required much more effort to operate than others. At that time, he needed his employees to work overtime, and he would always offer overtime pay, and occasionally order afternoon tea and late-night snacks to motivate them.

But the original owner, on the other hand, had become a veritable feudal landlord, exploiting the poor peasants.

"How many days?" Qu Zhaojia didn't dare to change too drastically at once, so he asked coldly.

"Just one afternoon will do. My dad will be back tomorrow," Qin Shuang looked up sharply, saying with some disbelief.

"Go to HR and write a leave slip yourself."

"Thank you, Supervisor!" Qin Shuang quickly retreated, still finding it hard to believe even after sitting back at her desk.

That supervisor, who was so difficult to talk to, had actually agreed to her leave so easily!

Qu Zhaojia's attention was now fully on the computer in front of him. It was a small game the company was developing, and he was trying to optimize it.

Pulling himself together, his immediate priority was to pay off the original owner's 60,000 yuan credit card debt.

What Qu Zhaojia didn't know was that at this moment, the company's pantry was full of people.

Everyone was discussing Qu Zhaojia's wedding and how Qin Shuang had just asked him for leave, and Qu Zhaojia had actually approved it so readily.

"Is he traumatized or something? Anyone would be unable to cope with something like that happening on their wedding day."

The employees attributed everything to the changes that occurred on the wedding day; otherwise, how could they explain Qu Zhaojia's sudden change of personality?

"I think a leopard can't change its spots. Just you wait, in a few days he'll start tormenting us again."

A male employee said resentfully. He had simply watched a video during work before and was then dragged out by Qu Zhaojia at a company meeting and given a brutal dressing-down.

"I think so too. How could a petty person like him change?"

Many employees agreed, as the impression Qu Zhaojia had left on them before was simply too bad; he was tyrannical in the company, practically committing every evil imaginable.

As a beneficiary of Qu Zhaojia's temporary change of heart, Qin Shuang only hoped that Qu Zhaojia's state could last a little longer, and then a little longer. This way, new employees like them, who were still on probation, could also have a few good days and not have to be constantly on edge.

...

Before Qu Zhaojia was bound to this system, he had originally started a game company, so he was more than familiar with all of this.

As the head of the marketing department in this loosely structured company, he could easily obtain all the development department's data with just a few words.

He got his hands on several small games that Xuan Guang Games was currently developing; they were all boring, low-tech games that would have a lot of inserted ads, making them extremely unplayable.

After looking at several games, Qu Zhaojia finally selected a simulation game and made a series of optimizations based on it. He learned about this world and realized that the popular simulation games from his previous life didn't exist yet. So, he modified a small game that was once under his company, which had also been popular for quite some time.
