Chapter 22: The white fox is asking for a title? Asking for fish!

It was almost noon, and the two had already caught a large pile of fish, stacking them on the snow.

The two happily took the large and small fish from the net, their heads steaming with excitement.

"These are purely natural and wild, without any drugs," Zhou Cang remarked, thinking that the fish he bought at the supermarket in his previous life were all farmed, raised on various feeds and medications.

Thinking of this, Zhou Cang stopped, looked at the pile of fish, and suddenly shouted, "Quan Fu, start a fire! Let's eat roasted fish!"

"Alright!" Zhang Quanfu picked up his large saber again, darted into the woods, peeled off a few pieces of birch bark, and gathered a large armful of branches.

In just a few motions, he started a bonfire. The two each picked a large fish weighing three or four catties, used the tip of a knife to slit open the belly, cleaned out the insides, and skewered them on sticks to roast by the fire.

Instantly, the aroma of fish spread. Zhou Cang took out large salt crystals, crushed them with his hands, and sprinkled them on the fish, then threw a piece of salt to Zhang Quanfu.

"It's too fragrant! I hope this smell doesn't attract any wild beasts!"

Thinking of this, he placed both guns within reach so he could grab them and shoot at any time.

In front of slugs and 7.62mm rifle rounds, it could basically be said that whatever came, they would roast it!

Especially on such a vast lake surface, no carnivorous animal could rush within fifty meters of Zhou Cang.

This was the absolute confidence of a battle god!

Until a series of "chirping" sounds rang out behind him!

"What the heck?" Zhou Cang jumped up abruptly, grabbing his shotgun and turning to aim behind him.

At this moment, Zhang Quanfu was still staring at the roasted fish, drooling. Seeing Zhou Cang's sudden movement, he quickly reached for his gun as well.

"What's wrong? What's wrong?" He didn't see anything, aiming his gun around in circles.

"Look down, it's here!" Zhou Cang was speechless, maybe Quan Fu was a bit thick-skinned.

Zhang Quanfu looked down and saw a completely white fox sitting there, licking its paws.

"Oh my god, in broad daylight, how did a fox spirit come!" Zhang Quanfu threw down his gun and plopped down on his knees.

He put his hands together and muttered something unintelligible.

Zhou Cang held his gun, seeing that this Little Fox didn't seem to pose any threat and he could crush it with one hand, so he asked,

"Fox spirit? Have you come to seek a title?"

"Chirp chirp!" The white fox licked its nose, looking at the roasted fish.

"Well, well, came to beg for fish?" Zhou Cang was amused. This little thing wasn't afraid of his killing aura? It even dared to come and ask him for fish!

He picked up a crucian carp from the ground and threw it to the white fox.

The white fox lowered its head, sniffed it, pushed it aside with its paw, and looked longingly at the roasted fish by the fire.

"Hey! You think it's too cold?" Zhou Cang laughed heartily.

"Alright, this one is for you, I'll just roast another one." He tore off the roasted crucian carp; the tender white fish meat was fragrant and enticing.

The Little Fox immediately began eating large mouthfuls, occasionally looking up at Zhou Cang's smiling face.

"Alright, off you go, I've given you the biggest fish!" Zhou Cang reluctantly picked another one, cleaned it up, and put it on to roast.

At this moment, Zhang Quanfu stared wide-eyed at the white fox eating the fish, looking at the white fox and then at Zhou Cang.

"Fugui, why aren't you afraid? This is a fox spirit!"

"What about a fox spirit? I gave it my roasted fish! If a wolf came, I would have shot it dead long ago!" Zhou Cang said resentfully.

As someone who had transmigrated, he was currently quite conflicted. Originally, he firmly believed in science; after all, with a job involving killing, having too many thoughts wouldn't work.

But now, if he said he wasn't superstitious about anything, he couldn't explain his own rebirth.

So, let's just maintain a normal state of mind for now.

Just treating this fox as a fox was fine. The little thing looked a bit spiritual, so Zhou Cang didn't plan to kill it for meat.

Zhang Quanfu watched Fugui chatting and laughing with the white fox, feeling uneasy but not daring to say anything. Then he smelled a slightly burnt odor.

"Oh no, my fish!" Zhang Quanfu quickly flipped his roasted fish, enduring the heat to pinch off a piece of fish meat and stuff it into his mouth.

"Mmm! It's cooked! Delicious! Fugui, eat this one! Give me yours!"

Zhou Cang smiled, "Stop messing around, just eat yours, mine will be ready soon too!"

He took out a bottle of baijiu from the sled, pulled out the stopper, and handed it to Zhang Quanfu, "Here! Have a sip!"

Zhang Quanfu didn't stand on ceremony, lifting the bottle and taking a swig.

"Ah, comfortable!"

If it were half a month ago, he wouldn't dare to imagine living a life of drinking and eating meat every day!

Just finished eating yesterday, and today again?

Isn't it a bit much?

People who are used to hardship, when their lives get slightly better, tend to inexplicably reflect on themselves, wondering if they are enjoying blessings they shouldn't, or if something bad will happen.

They scare themselves like this, fearing what's ahead and what's behind.

However, Zhang Quanfu's worldview had been almost completely reshaped in the past two days, surviving death and then eating roasted fish with a fox spirit.

Quan Fu: This world is crazy!

Zhou Cang took back the wine bottle, and just after taking a sip, he saw the Little Fox staring at his bottle and licking its tongue.

"What, you want this too?" Zhou Cang shook the bottle.

"Chirp chirp!"

"Alright, if you drink too much, no one will take you back to your den! Don't say I didn't warn you!" Saying this, he found a slightly larger ice block, used a knife to poke out a small hollow, poured a little wine into it, and placed it in front of the fox.

The Little Fox first sniffed tentatively, the strong aroma of alcohol gave it a jolt.

As if having made some kind of decision, it slowly extended its little tongue and gently touched the liquid.

"Ha..."

"Hahaha!"

The Little Fox opened its mouth and panted from the spiciness, while Zhou Cang laughed heartily as he ate his roasted fish.

"You little thing, you're overestimating yourself, daring to drink alcohol?"

The Little Fox seemed to glare at Zhou Cang, then lowered its head again and lapped up the wine with quick slurps, quickly licking that bit of wine clean.

"Huh? It really drank it?" Zhou Cang looked down at the ice block, "Feeling dizzy?"

The Little Fox didn't make a sound this time, continuing to lower its head and gnaw on the fish.

In just a moment, its movements gradually became sluggish, its head began to sway slightly, and its originally bright eyes became hazy.

Slowly, it went from eating while standing on four legs to eating while lying down.

Seeing that it was about to fall asleep, the Little Fox struggled to stand up, wobbled its way onto Zhou Cang's sled, and burrowed into the quilt Zhou Cang had brought, lying down.

"Hey? What does this little thing mean?" Zhou Cang pointed at the Little Fox and asked Zhang Quanfu.

"How would I know that!" Zhang Quanfu shook his head like a rattle-drum, "Looks like it's latched onto you."

"Alright, let's ignore it. After we eat, we'll set a few more nets and then go home."

The two threw the gutted fish entrails into the ice hole and continued to set nets.

In most of the day, they caught three full sacks of fish, large and small.

As expected, the Greater Khingan Mountains are rich in resources; as long as you put in the effort, you can find food.

The two loaded the sled and saw that the Little Fox was still sleeping soundly.

"Drunk like this, it'll surely be finished if it encounters a Tiger or wolf!"

"Today we have a connection, so I'll take you home. You can leave whenever you want later, and I estimate no one in the Village will dare to stop you," Zhou Cang said to the Little Fox.

Little Fox: ZZZZZZZZ

"Alright, I'll take that as your agreement, let's go!"
