Everyone got into the vehicles, started them, and headed towards N City.
In N City, there was also a convoy heading in their direction.
Everyone in this convoy exuded an astonishing aura of ruthlessness, though they appeared somewhat emaciated.
These individuals looked fierce, and they drove at an incredibly high speed.
They were already not far from Li Yu and his group.
Meanwhile, back at the base, according to previously formulated plans, the base also needed some improvements.
Especially the wall section, which required obtaining some building materials. Third Uncle took a few workers to the neighboring small town where Li Yu and his group had previously moved some cement.
The distance was short, so not long after Li Yu and his group departed, they drove a large truck there to transport some building materials.
They encountered no trouble along the way and quickly transported the building materials back.
At the base, work was in full swing to reinforce the perimeter wall.
The railings on the wall also needed to be raised accordingly. Reinforcing and raising several kilometers of wall was a massive undertaking.
Second Uncle, on the other hand, walked around the base. Last time, Li Yu had mentioned to him that at the base's water outlet, during the heavy rain, some debris had clogged the iron grate in front of the pipeline.
Second Uncle gathered two people and together they cleaned out the debris from the bottom of the pipe, then went to inspect the external water outlet.
They wouldn't have known if they hadn't gone, but upon inspection, they discovered two zombies with broken legs at the bottom of the original iron grate at the outer water outlet, located at the bottom of the slope of this outlet.
Under the sun's rays, the two zombies remained motionless until Second Uncle and the others approached, at which point the two zombies suddenly roared.
This truly startled Second Uncle and his companions.
They used spears to dispatch the two zombies.
Second Uncle stood at the water outlet, deep in thought for a moment. This outlet led directly into the base, and they needed to prevent zombies from entering through it.
Although these zombies couldn't directly enter the base, as there was a height difference at the base, with a relatively high platform built and also sealed off by iron grates, much like a skylight, making it difficult to climb up.
However, what if it clogged this drainage channel, making it difficult to clear?
Second Uncle had two workers forge several more iron grates, adding several more barriers at the water outlet, and also adjusted the direction of the outlet towards the steeper slope.
Under that slope, there was a height difference of nearly 10 meters, making it virtually impossible to enter the water outlet.
Through the recent heavy rains, some minor issues at the base were exposed, and Second Uncle and his team began to repair and adjust them one by one.
Now, regarding Li Yu's side.
From a high altitude, one could see a convoy of three vehicles driving south, while on the other side, a convoy of about a dozen vehicles and nearly a hundred people was driving north.
Watching these two convoys, they were getting closer and closer.
On the National Highway where Li Yu and his group were, they no longer maintained a single-file formation, but instead, two vehicles drove side-by-side.
Inside the vehicles, Da Pao and the others were somewhat bored. Out of habit, Da Pao and Yang Tianlong, who had served in the military, continuously wiped down their firearms and checked their ammunition.
They had, in fact, checked them countless times at the base.
But there was nothing else to do in the car, so they could only wipe and inspect their firearms again.
As for the Salvation Army's vehicles, in the largest minibus in the middle, the seats had been directly removed and converted into a simple small RV.
Inside, several people were playing poker.
“I’m so sick of eating human flesh. Let’s quickly search other places and find something good to eat. Queen!” a bald man said.
Across from him, a man with a red birthmark on his face grumbled, “Xiao Mao and his group went over there before, not sure what happened. Then didn’t we send more people? This damn weather! It’s killing me with heat. Ace! Hahaha, I beat you!”
The middle-aged man was about to reach out and collect the several cigarettes on the table. He thought he had won for sure.
“What’s the rush! Joker bomb!” The bald man casually tossed out his cards.
“Damn it!” The man with the red birthmark glared at another man and said, “Didn’t you say you had a King just now?”
The man said nonchalantly, “You must have misheard.”
“Don’t cheat!” The bald man reached out and swatted away the other man’s hand, then was about to grab the cigarettes.
These cigarettes were a hot commodity.
“You bastard, are you two in cahoots? Is he the landlord? What the hell are you doing?!” The man with the red birthmark glared fiercely at the other man, then flipped the table over.
Several cigarettes fell to the ground.
Seeing this, the middle-aged man across from him also surged with anger. He pulled out a long saber from behind him, ready to stab the red birthmark man.
The red birthmark man saw his movement but was not afraid. Recently, he had killed many people. Not only had he killed people, but he had also eaten quite a few!
These Salvation Army members, during the heavy rain and food shortages, their leader seemed to have let go, allowing them to fight among themselves; those who won ate meat.
Those who lost were eaten.
It was about to erupt.
Suddenly, the minibus slammed on its brakes.
The few people inside the car all fell forward due to inertia.
“MLGB, Old Wu, what kind of car are you driving?!” the bald man said fiercely.
“I guess something happened up ahead. The cars in front of them braked suddenly. If I didn’t stop, I would have crashed into them,” Old Wu said helplessly.
Hearing this, the bald man and the birthmark man, after such an interruption, both lost the desire to fight.
The few of them were curious as to what had caused them to stop so abruptly.
The bald man and the birthmark man both grabbed their knives, got out of the car, and walked towards the front.
At the very front of the Salvation Army's convoy, two SUVs stopped, less than 10 meters from Li Yu and his group. The driver inside was panting heavily, covered in cold sweat.
This was a bend in the road, and both sides probably hadn't seen each other until they finally rounded the corner and discovered each other.
Time rewound to 1 minute ago. From Li Yu and his group's perspective, Li Hang was driving, turning a bend, when two cars rushed towards them head-on.
The cars on the opposite side also saw Li Yu’s car, and both sides slammed on their brakes!
The distance was less than 10 meters.
Both sides were silent for 10 seconds; they had almost collided.
The Salvation Army seemed to recover, seeing the three cars in front of them. Through the glass, it was somewhat blurry, and they couldn't clearly see who was on the opposite side.
However, seeing only three cars on the opposite side, they suddenly felt an even stronger sense of anger.
The driver who had almost collided with Li Yu’s car was instantly enraged; they had almost crashed.
He rolled down the window and shouted at Li Yu and his group, “Are you f***ing blind, you idiots? We, the Salvation Army, have never encountered anyone daring to block our way!”
Li Yu’s side remained silent, as if stunned by the curses, or perhaps having heard of the Salvation Army’s reputation and now being intimidated.
Hearing what the other side said, Li Yu and Li Hang exchanged glances, both with a hint of excitement in their eyes.
A smile tugged at Li Yu’s lips.
The Salvation Army. So thoughtful.
