Chapter 187: chaos

Chaos.

Screams, pleas for mercy, scolding, roars, shouts.

They merged into a cacophony of sound.

People running, people fighting each other with knives, people snatching food, people tripped and trampled.

They merged into a terrifying scene.

In the air, one could smell a strong scent of blood, along with some putrid odors.

Zhou Wu Lu was amidst the crowd, as if in a dream.

He seemed to have dreamed of a similar scene in a past dream.

He felt like he was dreaming, but these sounds and images were so real.

Staring blankly at the people around him, his brothers were nowhere to be found.

Suddenly, a stone hit him on the head.

Bang!

A piercing pain shot through him, and blood was already gushing from his head.

Only then did he fully awaken.

This was not a dream.

At the same time, a man in tight-fitting clothes saw him and quickly ran towards him.

"Squad Leader, our people are scattered. The ones guarding the food in the warehouse were all killed by them! And the crops we planted... they were all pulled up and eaten! Now, we have nothing left." His voice was filled with despair and sorrow.

Zhou Wu Lu heard this and snapped out of his dazed state.

"Where are Liu Zi and the others? Did you see them? It doesn't matter if the food is gone, as long as our brothers are still here, alive, with people, there is a world," Zhou Wu Lu said.

"Liu Zi, Liu Zi, he wanted to save the food, to leave some for us, but those people chased him and beat him to death!! Dead! Dead!"

"Xiao San, I haven't seen him at all. Only Xiao Si, he was upstairs just now, I told him to come down and meet up," the man in tight-fitting clothes said sorrowfully.

"What!?!" Zhou Wu Lu's face was filled with disbelief.

Immediately after, his face was filled with pain: "It's all my fault. If I hadn't saved that mother and daughter, so many survivors wouldn't have come, and they wouldn't have died."

He hunched over, and all the vitality seemed to drain from him in an instant.

The strong man squatted down and whispered, "Squad Leader, our top priority is to find our other people."

"Okay!" Zhou Wu Lu's eyes were bloodshot, and he looked at the surrounding people with hatred.

"Let's go find Xiao Si, right now," Zhou Wu Lu said.

The two ran towards the house.

As they ran, they could still see some people who had joined their base earlier, and these people looked bewildered.

Zhou Wu Lu thought for a moment and decided to find Xiao Si first, as their few brothers were the only ones truly trustworthy.

Halfway there.

They saw Liu Zi, beaten to death. Liu Zi's entire head was covered in blood, with a 5-centimeter hole in his skull.

His eyes were wide open, staring at the sky, unwilling to close in death.

Zhou Wu Lu, passing by him, picked up Liu Zi's body and carried him on his back. He said nothing.

The two walked in silence to the house, where five or six other people, some of the early members who had joined them, saw Zhou Wu Lu and automatically walked over without waiting for him to call them.

Zhou Wu Lu nodded to them, and the group finally reached the house.

Downstairs in the house, Xiao Si was arguing with a group of people, but Xiao Si, being alone and weak, was no match for the seven or eight people opposite him.

And beside them, there was a corpse.

These thousands of refugees had no leader, no commander, only small groups. They huddled together for warmth, but among these people, no one could command anyone else.

They had only one goal: find food and survive.

They were all for themselves; there was only one way to command them, and that was to run wherever there was food.

They were like a swarm of locusts, a disorganized rabble.

At this moment, Xiao Si was fighting with several people. Although he was at a disadvantage, he had no fatal injuries.

It seemed these people didn't want to fight; they just wanted to leave. They were also carrying some things in their arms.

However, Xiao Si had no intention of letting them go, blocking them and preventing them from leaving.

Seeing this scene.

Zhou Wu Lu and the Second Brother, the man in tight-fitting clothes, rushed forward without any hesitation, long knives in hand. The few people behind them followed, hesitating for a few seconds before finally charging forward.

Xiao Si saw Zhou Wu Lu and the others running from behind, a hint of joy flashed across his face, but quickly, his face turned mournful: "Third Brother was pushed down the stairs by them and trampled to death. He had already given them the food, but they still didn't let him go."

Zhou Wu Lu and the strong man heard this, and their hearts erupted like magma—anger, sorrow, despair, hatred!

Hatred!

"Son of a bitch!"

"Damn it! Damn it!" Zhou Wu Lu roared as he swung his knife. He charged forward, leading the way.

Gripping the knife with both hands, he brought it down from behind, cleaving one of the opponents from the top of his head.

The force was immense!

This person's head was directly split in half.

The knife was stuck in the neck but was quickly pulled out by Zhou Wu Lu.

Another swing of the knife went towards the person next to him. The person next to him hadn't even reacted before half of his body was cut off.

He was already as dead as could be.

Two people died.

This immediately attracted the attention of the others.

The seven or eight men opposite saw Zhou Wu Lu's bloodshot eyes and were somewhat terrified, secretly shifting their positions backward.

The Second Brother behind him also charged forward; they wanted revenge for the Third Brother!

After killing these two people, the hatred in Zhou Wu Lu's heart had not diminished in the slightest.

Instead, because his face was splattered with human blood, he felt a strange sense of pleasure.

Kill. Kill. Then it will be clean.

He had thought about it, that one must be wary of others.

He had thought about it, that in the apocalypse, one should not trust anyone.

But, what was before his eyes at that time was a living mother and daughter.

That couldn't be fake, it must have been real.

The mother and daughter who were about to starve to death were real, their emaciated bodies were real, and the pleading in their eyes was also real.

Their gratitude in their eyes after receiving food was also real.

But, it was also true that they brought more survivor refugees, it was also true that they brought them huge trouble, and it was also true that Liu Zi and Xiao San died at their hands.

And it was also true that many other people in the base who followed him died.

Nothing was fake. Only real.

There was no right or wrong, only pros and cons.

Could it be that what is considered right in values is also wrong?

Zhou Wu Lu completely darkened at this moment.

He wanted to kill all the refugees here.

Killing them, perhaps it would be clean.

He trembled; how could human hearts be so wicked?

They were such pitiful mother and daughter.

He led the few people beside him and charged towards the people opposite.

Zhou Wu Lu, the Second Brother, Xiao Si, and several others charged towards those seven people.

With hatred, with a determination to kill.

These seven people were somewhat terrified and retreated backward.

But, the other refugees nearby were unmoved. These refugees were not familiar with these seven people; they had met them while wandering. No one knew anyone else.

They were just looking for food together, that was all.

For them, finding food was more important.

They watched coldly from the side.

The seven people were caught by Zhou Wu Lu and the others.

All killed!
